Aim and Objective: Ionic liquids are a suitable medium for stabilization and preparation of catalytic systems. Materials and Methods: The two-dimensional (2D) ZnO/Fe3O4 nanocomposites were synthesized using ionic liquid [OMIM]Br as a stabilizer and soft template. The nanocomposites were characterized via FTIR, XRD, VSM and SEM analysis. Results: The catalytic activity of these composites was evaluated using a multicomponent reaction of primary amines, acetylacetone, and 2-bromoacetophenone. Conclusion: 2D ZnO/Fe3O4 as a recyclable and green catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance for the preparation of poly-substituted pyrroles.

The first transition metal series TM–PP monolayer catalysts exhibit excellent catalytic performance during the process of electroreduction of CO2. The products have 2e− CO (Sc, Mn and Ni), HCOOH (Cr, Fe, Co, Cu and Zn), 8e− CH4 (Ti and V), and the overpotential of the reaction can be as low as 0.127 V.

In this work, we report a more simple and efficient way to the synthesis of composite ionic liquid (IL) ([BMIM][Zn2Br5]) by directly coupling IL with molecular sieves. Two kinds of immobilized catalysts were successfully synthesized: SBA-15-[BMIM][Zn2Br5] and SBA-15-CPTES-[BMIM][Zn2Br5], respectively. The catalysts were used to catalyze the cycloaddition reaction of continuous transformation of CO2 and propylene oxide (PO) and the catalytic performance of catalysts was further studied. Compared with the traditional IL catalysts, the catalysts not only have excellent catalytic performance, but also have better catalytic performance and significantly longer service life. The reason is that the catalysts are formed by high energy chemical bond of silane between IL catalysts and molecular sieves, which can effectively solve the problem of loss of IL active components in the catalytic process.

Developing efficient catalysts with good recyclability is of great importance for its practical applications. In this study, a novel magnetically retrievable nanocomposite (Au-SiO2@Fe3O4-RGO) was synthesized for catalyzing hydration reaction. Active Au nanoparticles are deposited on core-shell SiO2@Fe3O4, which are further supported by a two-dimensional reduced graphene oxide (RGO) platform. The prepared Au-SiO2@Fe3O4-RGO was proven to be efficient as well as recyclable. An excellent catalytic performance, with 97% yield towards the hydration of phenylacetylene, was achieved for the catalyst in dioxane. Remarkably, the catalyst can be readily recycled through magnetic separation and achieved superior catalyst recovery and stability after seven cycles without any metal leaching. This work provides a strategy to fabricate recyclable and durable catalysts for industrial applications.

Efficient and versatile catalytic systems were developed for the N-methylation of both aliphatic and aromatic primary amines using methanol as the methylating agent. Iridium complexes bearing an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand exhibited high catalytic performance for this type of transformation. For aliphatic amines, selective N,N-dimethylation was achieved at low temperatures (50–90 °C). For aromatic amines, selective N-monomethylation and selective N,N-dimethylation were accomplished by simply changing the reaction conditions (presence or absence of a base with an appropriate catalyst). These findings can be used to develop methods for synthesizing useful amine compounds having N-methyl or N,N-dimethyl moieties.
