: The reason that the oral route attained such acceptance may be ascribed to its affluence of administration. Over the years, patient convenience- oriented exploration in the area of drug delivery has introduced potential innovative medicine delivery systems. The elegant drug delivery system is an amalgamation of science and dexterity with therapeutic prospect and presentability. It involves the administration of medications in a groundbreaking fashion with the assistance of cosmetics, wearable devices and oral drug delivery system which can also be used for ornamental purposes. Out of which, therapeutic chewing gum offers a highly suitable and amenable technique of dosing medications comprising children and elderlies. It is a potentially convenient means of administering medications either locally or systematically via the oral cavity. It bids innumerable gains over conventional drug delivery methods. Moreover, medicinal chewing gums involve the dynamic and constant masticatory actions for drug release. Currently, enriched expertise has made it promising to advance and fabricate medicated chewing gum with predefined properties and it could be a marketable triumph in the future. Apprehending this, several investigators and pharmaceutical companies are now engaged in developing innovative practices vis-à-vis medicated chewing gums by filing several patents in this area. The present manuscript also delivers a gestalt of various patented technology platforms based on different methods/ mechanisms employed for the preparation of medicated chewing gums.

New formulations and technologies have been developed through oral drug delivery systems’ research. Such research display significance of oral route amongst patients. We have reviewed all the features associated with medicated chewing gum as a modern drug delivery by introducing the history, advantages and disadvantages, methods of manufacturing, composition differences, evaluation tests and examples of varieties of medicated chewing gums. Acceptance of medicated chewing gum has been augmented through years. The advantages and therapeutic benefits of chewing gum support its development as we can see new formulations with new drugs contained have been produced from past and are going to find a place in market by formulation of new medicated chewing gums. Potential applications of medicated chewing gums are highly widespread as they will be recognized in future. Nowadays standards for qualifying chewing gums are the same as tablets. Patient-centered studies include medicated chewing gums as a delivery system too which creates compliance for patients.

The convenience of administration and improved patient compliance are important in the design of oral drug delivery system which remains the preferred route of drug delivery inspite of various disadvantages. Fast disintegrating tablets (FDTs) have received ever-increasing demand during the last decade, and the field has become a rapidly growing area in the pharmaceutical industry. The popularity and usefulness of the formulation resulted in development of several FDT technologies. These techniques render the disintegration of tablet rapidly and dissolve in mouth in five seconds without chewing and the need of water which is advantageous mainly for pediatrics, geriatrics and patients having difficulty in swallowing tablets and capsules. Formulation of a convenient dosage form for administration, by considering swallowing difficulty and poor patient compliance, leads to development of orally disintegrating tablets. Conventional preparation methods are spray drying, freeze drying, direct compression, Molding, and sublimation while new technologies have been developed for the production of orodispersible tablets. Keywords: Fast Dissolving Tablet, drug delivery system, fast disintegrating, fast melting.
