Introduction: The presence of a developmental dental anomaly in maxillary incisors usually affects esthetic appearance. Therefore, gemination and supernumerary teeth are considered anomalies and need a careful and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. Case Description: This clinical report presents a 10-year-old girl complaining of the esthetic appearance of her anterior maxillary teeth. Clinical and radiographical examinations revealed a maxillary geminated permanent left central incisor and a supplemental supernumerary permanent right lateral incisor. The treatment has been performed in different stages, including preventive, conservative, surgical, and orthodontic treatments. Thus, the large geminated incisor has been restored to its normal shape, and the problem of anterior incisor crowding resolved through alignment. Conclusion: Dental anomalies in the anterior segment are common and need time during treatment. Selective grinding for the large geminated incisor and the extraction of the supplemental tooth followed by orthodontic treatment may be the right decisions that a dental practitioner may consider during the management of such cases.

Clinically, supernumerary teeth are able to cause different local disorders and the most common one is impaction of maxillary incisors. Impacted maxillary incisors substantially affect esthetics, function, and self‑esteem of patients. Impaction of maxillary permanent incisor is a rare clinical entity in dental practice. Although impaction of a permanent tooth is rarely diagnosed during the mixed dentition period, an impacted central incisor is usually diagnosed accurately when there is delay in the eruption of tooth. Multiple treatment options are available for impacted incisors. Surgical-orthodontic treatment is one of the alternative option for the correction. Early diagnosis and management of supernumer¬ary teeth is important to prevent the need for more complex surgical and orthodontic treatment. Here, we present a report of two cases of impacted maxillary incisors and its management

Introduction. Dental impaction represents the group of isolated dental anomalies characterized by retention of a tooth with a fully formed root in the jaw bone, after the eruption period has passed. This anomaly may affect deciduous teeth, permanent or supernumerary teeth causing aesthetic and / or functional disorders. Case report. The case presents a clinical situation of a girl who presented two maxillary teeth impacted (a central incisor and a cuspid) who underwent surgical exposure and orthodontic treatment for their arch alignments. Conclusions. Impacted teeth may produce dental malpositions or root resorption of the adjacent teeth, cysts or chronic local infections, which carry out a surgical orthodontic treatment, complex and for a long term, depending on the clinical situation existing.

ABSTRACTObjectives: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of double teeth, hypodontia, microdontia, and hyperdontia of primary teeth in Turkish children.Methods:The study group comprised 1149 children (554 girls, 595 boys). The children were examined in twelve local nurseries in Sivas, Turkiye. Clinical data were collected by four dentists according to Kreiborg criteria; which includes double teeth, hypodontia, microdontia, and supernumerary teeth. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the chi-square test.Results: Dental anomalies were found in 2.0% of children. The distribution of dental anomalies were significantly more frequent (P=.023) in boys (2.9%, n=17) than in girls (1.1%, n=6). In relation to anomaly frequencies at different ages, no difference was found (P = .760).Conclusions: Double teeth were the most frequently (1.3%) observed anomaly. The other anomalies followed as; 0.3% supernumerary teeth, 0.3% microdontia, 0.2% hypodontia. Identification of dental anomalies in the anterior region at an early age is of great importance for esthetic and orthodontic treatment planning. (Eur J Dent 2012;6:178-183)

Impaction of maxillary central incisors is frequent in dental practice. However its management is challenging because of its importance in aesthetics. Supernumerary teeth are the most common dental anomaly that can cause impaction of adjacent teeth, crowding, diastema, rotation and displacement of teeth. We report a case of 13 year old male with an impacted supernumerary tooth in the maxillary anterior region, which was interfering with the eruption of the permanent, left central incisor. The impacted supernumerary tooth was surgically removed. With the application of an orthodontic traction, impacted left maxillary central incisor was brought down to its proper position in the dental arch.

Maxillary central incisor impactions occur infrequently.Their origins include various local causes, such as odontoma, supernumerary teeth, and space loss. Supernumerary and ectopically impacted teeth are asymptomatic and found during routine clinical or radiological examinations. The surgical exposure and orthodontic traction of impacted right central incisor after removal of odontomas is presented in this report. ABSTRACT Pediatric dentists come across children and developing malocclusion at the earliest, early recognition and interception could avoid long-term laborious orthodontic treatment. Mesiodens are the most common supernumerary teeth, in the central region of the premaxilla, between the two central incisors, which may be the cause for a variety of irregularities in the developing occlusion, in particular, can lead to the impaction or ectopic eruption of adjacent permanent teeth, in the most esthetically important zone. Aim To investigate the prevalence of various concomitant dental anomalies in Hong Kong children with true talon cusps on the permanent maxillary incisors. Methods Dental records and radiographs of a group of Hong Kong Chinese primary schoolchildren with true talon cusps (half crown height or more) on one or more permanent maxillary incisors were selected and studied retrospectively. The prevalence of various dental anomalies in this group of children was compared with that of the general population of Hong Kong Chinese children of similar age. Results A total of 11,537 records were reviewed and 58 children with true talon cusps on one or more permanent maxillary incisors were identified. A total of 69 permanent maxillary incisors were affected, of which all except one were lateral incisors. Dens evaginatus on premolars, supernumerary teeth in the anterior maxilla, and hypodontia were found in 5 (8.6%), 5 (8.6%), and 5 (8.6%) cases respectively. The prevalence of supernumerary teeth was significantly higher in children with true talon cusps as compared with the results of two previous general studies of Chinese children of similar age ( P<0.05, Fisher's exact test). Conclusion Children with true talon cusps on the permanent maxillary incisors were more frequently affected by supernumerary teeth in the anterior maxilla. Further studies with a larger sample are needed to confirm a true association.

Abstract Supernumerary teeth are common dental anomalies reported in rodents, mainly occurring distally to molars. We report the first case of mesial hyperdontia in wild-caught sigmodontine: a simplified tooth anterior to the right first lower molar in Neacomys amoenus. It affected the first molar morphology, which exhibits an underdeveloped mesial region with a reduced anterior conulid, a similar pattern observed in early known myomorph fossils, including lineages that still possess the last premolar. However, only lineages without premolar display an elongated first lower molar with a large anteroconid, as observed in extant Myomorpha. During the odontogenesis in myomorphs, the posteriormost vestigial diastemal tooth bud, located at the same locus of the last lower premolar, has its development arrested and merges with the cap of the first molar. This process might have contributed to the development of an increased anteroconid in this lineage. The abnormal Neacomys’ atavistic phenotype corroborates the hypothesis that the absorption of the primordium of the last lower premolar had played an important role in the development of first molar’s mesial region. Additionally, it also might have promoted the evolutionary transition from a reduced conulid into an enlarged anteroconid, as deduced from the fossil record and developmental evidence

This clinical report describes a prosthodontic rehabilitation of a 29-year-old patient with cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD), who, after completing an orthodontic treatment, was not satisfied with the aesthetic outcome. Besides aesthetics, the patient complained about mastication muscles pain, and clicking while eating but was not aware about her unilateral open bite on the right side. The aim of this treatment was to improve smile appearance and patient’s well-being, as well as to restore the proper occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) along with complete intercuspation and to establish masticatory function. The first phase of the treatment concentrated on eliminating the muscle pain and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) clicking with a repositioning splint. During the second phase, the functional and aesthetic rehabilitation was obtained using adhesive prosthesis overlays and veneers.
