Zingiber zerumbetSm., locally known to the Malay as “Lempoyang,” is a perennial herb found in many tropical countries, including Malaysia. The rhizomes ofZ. zerumbet, particularly, have been regularly used as food flavouring and appetizer in various Malays' cuisines while the rhizomes extracts have been used in Malay traditional medicine to treat various types of ailments (e.g., inflammatory- and pain-mediated diseases, worm infestation and diarrhea). Research carried out using differentin vitroandin vivoassays of biological evaluation support most of these claims. The active pharmacological component ofZ. zerumbetrhizomes most widely studied is zerumbone. This paper presents the botany, traditional uses, chemistry, and pharmacology of this medicinal plant.

This review summarized the botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry and pharmacology ofCudrania tricuspidata, and the limitations of the studies on this species were also discussed so as to serve as the basis for further research and development of this medicinal plant.

Ethnomedicinal field trips were undertaken during 2012-2014 in the villages of Bayad taluka, Aravalli district, Gujarat, for the documentation of folk and herbal medicinal plants used by local people residing in and around forest areas. During field trips firsthand information on traditional uses of wild medicinal plant species was collected from tribal people. The source of information is based on interviews with local Vaidyas, Bhagats, Shepherds and local tribal informants of the area. The study indicated that tribe depends on medicinal flora for curing their various diseases. The study showed that, 24 plant species belonging to 22 genera of 20 Angiosperms families were recorded during field trips in study area.

Hing (Family- Umbelliferae) or asafoetida is the latex obtained from living rootstocks or taproots of several species of Ferula, e.g. F. alliacea Boiss, F. rubricaulis Boiss, F. assafoetida Linn and F. narthex Boiss found in central Asia. Asafoetida occurs in three forms, viz Tears, Mass and Paste. Hing has shown diverse biological and pharmacological activities. It has been used in Unani Medicine (Tibb-e-Unani) and other Traditional Systems of Medicine from time immemorial and it is described as diuretic, anti-diabetic, emmenagogue etc. The present review highlights the botanical description, traditional uses, pharmacognositcal features, pharmacological properties and pharmacological studies conducted on this Medicinal plant used in Unani system of medicine. Shorea robusta (Sal), an important traditional Indian medicinal plant used in various ailments and rituals and the indigenous use of the resin of this plant as a medicament for treatment of various inflammatory conditions is well documented in literature. In the present study, ethanolic extract of S. robusta resin (SRE) was evaluated for its analgesic activity by making use of different central and peripheral pain models. The phytochemical studies have shown the presence of many secondary metabolites belonging to terpenoids, flavonoids, carbohydrate, lignans, phenols and sterols. Crude extracts and isolated compounds from Shorea robusta show a wide spectrum of pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, anti- obesity, antibacterial, wound healing, anti-pyretic & analgesic activities. Many studies have provided evidence for various traditional uses. The present review on its botany, traditional uses, pharmacological activities and phytochemistry which provides preliminary information for further studies for this potential medicinal plant. Pain is an unpleasant sensation and emotional experience linked to tissue damage. Pain occurs when something hurts, causing an unpleasant or uncomfortable feeling. The nearness of pain implies that something isn't right. Each individual is the best judge own pain. Pain of any origin comprises an individual’s life. The analgesic activity of SRE was assessed by employing different Materials and Methods: pain models such as, i) hot plate and tail flick tests for central analgesia.

Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) Lam or “kelor”, a common name amongst Indonesian, belongs to the Moringaceae family. It is widely cultivated in India and known as nutritional herbs. Every part of these plants possess a valuable medicinal property. Universally known with the name “horseradish plant” or “drumstick plant” consists of biological exertion such as anticancer, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, treat malnutrition, and beneficial as concentration enhancer and as well as wound healing enterprise. So, the aim of the present review is to present comprehensive information on the traditional uses, phytochemical compound, and pharmacology activities of the medicinal plant, M. oleifera, from recognized sources. In the effort in future studies to develop a novel therapeutic medicine, the information provided in this review will be useful.
