This study aims to determine the ability of mathematical creative thinking students who learn using the Problem Based Learning approach. The population in this study were students of SMP 1 Jatisari class VIII A in Sukamaju Village which consisted of 18 students and 12 female students. This study was a quasi-experimental study using the results of a trial test pretest-posttest experimental control group. The instrument used in this study is a test to measure mathematical creative thinking skills in the form of 5 questions. Then the score data of students' mathematical creative thinking ability were analyzed statistically by using a difference test of two average values from the results of the pretest-posttest. The results showed that students' creative mathematical thinking ability using the Problem Based Learning approach was different from the results of the pretest-posttest. Besides that students also showed positive perceptions of problem-based learning and there were good results on mathematical creative thinking skills.

This research aimed at finding out (1)the improvement of the ability in creative mathematical thinking, (2) the improvement of the ability in reasoning and creative mathematical thinking for high, medium, and low level students. and (3) the interactions between students’ preliminary ability and the learning approach in improving the reasoning and creative mathematical thinking. By involving PBL in learning requires students to think creatively to generate new ideas in learning. The design of the research was quasi experiment. The sample were the student of VIII.9 at SMPN 31 Padang and the students of VIII.1 at SMPN 25Padang.The result of the research showed that (1) the improvement of students’ ability in creative mathematical thinking for those who were taught by using PBL was better than those who were taught by using the conventional learning, (2) the improvement of students’ ability in creative mathematical thinking for the high, medium, and low level students who were taught by using PBL was better than those who were taught by using the conventional learning, and (3) there was interaction between the preliminary ability and the learning approach to students’ creative mathematical thinking ability.

The ability to think mathematically includes many mental activities which involve the workings of the brain. To describe students’ mathematical thinking ability, one of the efforts that can be done is to apply the mathematical problem-based learning model. It involves students to solve a problem through scientific method stages, so that students can learn the knowledge related to the problem and also have the ability to solve the problem. This study aims to describe students’ mathematical thinking ability through Mathematical Problem-Based Learning Model. This type of research is qualitative. The subjects of the study were senior high school students in the city of Parepare. The data collections were conducted by observing the learning process in class and giving the assignment/test to the students. The collected data were then analyzed qualitatively. Based on the results of research and discussion it is concluded that the students ability to think have sequences in the activities of mathematical thinking with the application of mathematical problems-based learning model. Therefore, the students’ mathematical thinking ability is described as follows: (1) identification stage of the problem, (2) the grouping stages, and (3) drawing conclusions.

THE EFFECT OF PROBLEM BASED LEARNING AND CRITICAL THINKING ON HIGH ORDER THINGKING ABILITY            AbstractThis study aims to determine the effect of problem-based learning model and critical thinking skills on students' high-order thinking about optical materials. Quasi-experimental method with two-way ANOVA design was used to conduct this study with 34 second semester physic education students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. Data of students’ higher order thinking ability was obtained from multiple choice test with reason while the data of students' critical thinking ability was measured using multiple choice test. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that: (1) there is an influence of the problem based learning model on high student's thinking ability, (2) there is an influence of high critical thinking ability and low critical thinking ability on high student's thinking ability and (3) the interaction between the application of problem based learning model with the ability to think critically to the students' high level of thinking ability.

<p>This research aimed to improve the high-order thinking ability of students by applying PBL model in Environment Pollution Material in10th MIA 3 graders of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in the school year of 2015/2016. This study was a classroom, action research use the procedure of research employed Kemmis and Mc.Taggart’s (2005) conducted in 2 cycles, from April to May 2016. Each cycle consisted of 4 stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Subject of research was the in10th MIA 3 graders of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in the school year of 2015/2016 consisting of 31 students (18 female and 13 male students). Data of research was obtained using essay test on the high-order thinking ability, interview, observation sheet on the implementation of PBL syntax, observation sheet on affective and psychomotor aspects of students. Essay test of high-order thinking ability includes indicators: analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6) based on Bloom’s revised taxonomy. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis technique. Data validation was carried out using triangulation technique. The target of research was the improvement of students’ high-order thinking ability in every aspect of ≥ 23% from based line to the end of research cycle. The result of research showed that the application of PBL model in environment pollution material could improve the high-order thinking ability of students including analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6) aspects consistent with the target of research, by ≥23% from based line to the end of research cycle. The increase of percentage gain in each aspect of high-order thinking ability from precycle to cycle II was as follows: 1) the analyzing aspect increased by 25.16%, 2) the evaluating aspect increased by 26.66%, and 3) the creating aspect increased by 23.95%.</p><p><em> </em></p><p><strong><em>Keywords </em></strong>:<em> </em>Problem Based Learning, high-order thinking, environment pollution.</p>
