Effect of Sulpher Levels on Mustard (Brassica juncea) yield in Muzaffarpur District of Bihar

An on farm trial was conducted consequently two years inRabi seasons ofthe year 2011-12 and 2012-13 tooptimize the dose of sulphur to achieve markedly higher growth attributes, yield attributes and yield of mustard (Brassica junceaL.) cv, ‘Rajendrasuflam’. Results of the trial revealed that growth and yield attributes like plant height, no. of branches plant-1, no. of siliqua plant-1and test weight were recorded significantly higher with the application of 40 kg Sulphur ha-1 but it was statistically at par with the 30 kg Sulphurha-1. The significantly higher seed (13.93 and 13.98 q ha-1) and stover yield was recorded with the application of sulphur @ 40 kg Sulphur ha-1 which was at par with 30 kg Sulphur ha-1, whereas lowest seed yields (10.13 and 10.14 q ha-1) was associated with farmers’ practice i.e. no sulphur during both the years of experimentations. However, the highest gross return (Rs. 51541 and Rs.51736 ha-1), net return (Rs.31923 and Rs. 31311 ha-1) and B: C ratio (2.63 and 2.53) was recorded @ 40 kg S ha-1 and lowest economics parameters were recorded with no sulphur application.

Yield gap of chickpea will be minimized by implementation of suitable location specific agro techniques with timely and careful management. On farm cluster frontline demonstration (CFLD) on chickpea were conducted during rabi season of 2015-16 to 2017-18 in Buxar district of Bihar. CFLD was conducted in 20 ha area each with plot size of 0.40 ha (1 acre) with active participation of 50 farmers in two clusters. CFLD was conducted to popularize the demonstrated technology and quantifying the yield gap analysis in chickpea. Demonstrated technology under CFLD enhanced the plant growth and yield attributes. Seed yield of chickpea was recorded higher under CFDL (15.51 q/ha) compared to farmers practice (11.81 q/ha) which was 31.32% higher over farmers practice, 40.81% higher over district yield (11.04 q/ha) and 42.81% higher over state yield (10.86 q/ha). Technology gap was recorded 2.75, 2.50 and 2.20 q/ha in year 2015-16, 16-17 and 17-18, respectively. Extension gap was recorded 3.83, 4.05 and 3.20 q/ha during 2015-16, 16-17 and 17-18, respectively. Technology index was recorded 23.75, 22.50 and 21 % during 2015-16, 16-17 and 17-18, respectively. Average net return of Rs 45700 was recorded in demonstration and Rs 29497 in farmers practice. The net return under demonstration was 54.93 % higher over farmers practice. Average benefit cost ratio of 1.73 recorded with demonstration and 1.15 with farmer’s practice.

A field experiment was conducted during two consecutive years of 2008 and 2009 at Instructional Farm of NDUA&T , Kumarganj , Faizabad (U.P.) to study the effect of phosphorus, sulphur and PSB on growth attributes, yield and nutrient uptake by mungbean. The experiment consisted of four levels of phosphorus (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub>ha<sup>−1</sup>), three levels of sulphur (0, 20 and 40 kg S ha<sup>−1</sup>) and two levels of seeds inoculation with PSB (un-inoculation and inoculation ). Results revealed that the increasing levels of phosphorus up to 60 kg P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> ha<sup>−1</sup>, sulphur up to 40 kg S ha<sup>−1</sup> and inoculation of seed with PSB increased the plant height, number of pods plant<sup>−1</sup>, number of seeds pod<sup>−1</sup>, seed and stover yield and uptake of N, P and S. The net return also increased with increasing levels of phosphorus and inoculation of seeds with PSB. Application of 20 kg S/ha fetched highest net return of mungbean.

The experiment comprising of four levels of phosphorus, i.e., 0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1 and four levels of zinc, i.e., 0, 5, 10 and 15 kg ha-1 was conducted to investigate the interaction effect of phosphorus and zinc fertilization on yield and yield attributes of green gram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] cv. SML-668. The treatments were laid out in Randomized Block Design (Factorial) with three replications. The results revealed that plant height, number of pods plant-1, 1000 seed weight, seed and stover yield were increased significantly up to 60 kg ha-1 phosphorus and 10 kg ha-1 zinc treatment levels. Further increase in zinc levels found to decrease the yield and yield attributing traits, indicating antagonistic effect of phosphorus and zinc on each other. The highest plant height, number of pods plant-1, 1000 seed weight, seed and stover yield (at 60 kg P ha-1 and 10 kg Zn ha-1 treatment level) were 48.70 cm, 27.15, 32.70 g, 957.25 and 2398.30 kg ha-1, respectively. Thus, interaction of phosphorus and zinc was significant for all the growth and yield attributing parameters.

An on farm trial was conduct in different villages of nalanda district during financial year 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively by krishi vigyan kendra Harnaut Nalanda The research trials was conducted for continuous two years and we got the followings results as the maximum plant height 116.37 cm, the maximum number of leaves per planet 9.30, number of rhizome per plant is19.50, maximum rhizome yield 313.72 Q/Hectare and dry weight of rhizome 63.03 q/ha was recorded in call of bicolor black/ silver plastic mulch applications compared to other treatment during financial year 2018-19 and during 2019-20 the maximum plant height 118.29cm, no of leaves per plants 9.50,number of rhizome per plant is 21.33, maximum rhizome yield 316.46 Q/Hectare and dry weight of rhizome 66.76 q/ha were recorded in case of bicolor black/silver plastic mulch application is compared to other treatment.

A field experiment entitled “Effect of sowing dates on growth, yield attributes and yield of four wheat varieties” was conducted during winter season of 2016-17 on sandy loam soils of Poz-e-Ishan Research Farm of Agricultural Faculty of Baghlan University. The experiment was laid out in split plot design viz. four dates of sowing comprised of (16th November, 01st December, 16th December and 31st December 2016) as main plot treatments and four varieties (Solh 02, Gul 09, Muqawim 09, Kabul 013) as sub plot treatments with four replications. The highest plant height, number of effective per plant, test weight and grain yield of wheat was recorded with all varieties sown on 16 Nov-16, which was statistically identical with all treatments sown on 01 Dec-16 but significantly higher over rest of date of sowing. Among wheat varieties Kabul 013 and Gul 09 produced significantly higher plant height, number of effective per plant, test weight and grain yield of wheat over rest of the varieties. A field experiment was conducted to find out the effect of phosphorus, sulphur and PSB on growth attributes and yield of Vigna radiata. The experiment consisted four levels of phosphorus (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg h-1) and three levels of sulphur (0, 20, and 40 kg h-1) and seed non-inoculated and inoculated with PSB. Increasing level of phosphorus up to 60 kg ha-1 and sulphur up to 40 kg ha-1 gradually increases the plant height and significantly increases the number of pod plant-1, number of grain per pod-1, grain yield h-1 and stover yield. Seed inoculated with PSB showed superior plant height, significantly increases the number of pod plant-1, number of grain per pod-1, grain yield h-1 and stover yield. In similar proportion net return also increased with increase in the level of phosphorus, sulphur and seed inoculation with PSB.

A field experiment was conducted at the Central Research Station of BARI, Gazipur for two consecutive years 2010-11 and 2011-12 with 30 varieties/ genotypes of rapeseed-mustard under three dates of sowing viz., 25 November, 5 December, and 15 December to determine changes in crop phenology, growth and yield of mustard genotypes under late sown condition when the crop faced high temperature. Days to flowering and maturity were different at different planting times. Date of sowing significantly influenced plant height, siliquae/plant, seeds/siliqua, seed yield, and oil content of seed in both the years. The highest seed yield (1310 and 1535 kg/ha) was obtained from the first planting (25 November) in both the years, which was significantly different from two other dates of sowing. Yield and yield attributes of different varieties varied significantly. Among the varieties, BARI Sarisha-16 of Brassica juncea gave significantly the highest seed yield (1495 and 1415 kg/ha), which was statistically identical to BJDH-11, BJDH-12, BJDH-05, BJDH-20, and BARI Sarisha-6 and significantly different from all other varieties. Interaction effect of variety and sowing date significantly influenced plant height, number of siliquae per plant, number of seeds per siliqua, seed yield, and strover yield. The highest seed yield (1758 and 1825 kg/ha) were recorded from BJDH-11 and BARI Sarisha-16 of Brassica juncea at 25 November planting and BJDH-11 produced the highest yield at 15 December in both the years. The maximum strover yield (3758 and 3825 kg/ha) were obtained from BJDH-11 and BARI Sarisha-16 of Brassica juncea at 25 November planting during 2010-11 and 2011-12. The highest oil content of seeds (44.4 % and 45.9%) were obtained from the seed of BARI Sarisha-6 and BARI Sarisha-14 at 25 November planting in both the years. A field experiment was conducted at college of Agriculture, UAHS, Shivamogga during kharif 2015 to study the effect of date of sowing and hybrids on growth and yield of Maize (Zea maysL.). The experi-ment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with factorial concept and replicated thrice. There were eight treatment combinations which includes four dates of sowing (15thJune, 30thJune, 15thJuly and 30thJuly) and two hybrids (PAC-740 and CP-818). Crop sown on 15thJune recorded significantly higher plant height (201.03 cm), number of green leaves (3.03), leaf area (992.49 cm2), LAI (0.74), total dry matter (305.65 g), cob length (22.16 cm), kernels cob-1 (670.93), kernel yield cob-1(230.95 g), test weight (43.08 g), kernel yield (7632.57 kg ha-1), stover yield (9512.56 kg ha-1) andhar-vest index (44.52 %)as compared to other sowing dates. Among the hybrids CP -818 recorded significantly higher plant height (191.85 cm), number of green leaves (2.72), leaf area (954.32 cm2), LAI (0.71), total dry matter (277.65 g), cob length (19.81 cm), kernels cob-1 (541.88), kernel yield cob-1(207.71 g), test weight (39.16 g), kernel yield (7060.72 kg ha-1), Stover yield (8839.98 kg ha-1) and harvest in-dex (44.44%) as compared to PAC-740. The interaction between dates of sowing and hybrids are non-significant.

The field experiment conducted in the experimental farm of School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University during kharif season (June- September) of 2016 revealed that spacing at 30 x 10 cm recorded significantly the higher plant height (48.10 cm), number of leaves (5.47), shoot dry weight (2.88 g plant-1), LAI (2.88) and yield attributes such as number of pods plant-1 (17.00), length of pods (6.81 cm), seed yield (688.54 kg ha-1) and stover yield (1917.81 kg ha-1) respectively. Application of phosphorus at 40 kg ha-1 recorded significantly the higher plant height (49.37 cm) , number of leaves (5.73), shoot dry weight (3.34 g plant-1) , LAI (3.34) , CGR (6.37 g m-2 day-1) and yield attributes such as number of pods plant-1 (17.56) , length of pods (6.91 cm), seed yield (737.42 kg ha-1) and stover yield (1973.01 kg ha-1) respectively.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2013 to study response of clusterbean varieties to fertility levels and agro-chemicals at SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner. The experiment consisted of two varieties (RGC-1038 and RGC-1066), three treatments of fertility levels (control, 50% RDF and 100% RDF) and three treatments of agro-chemicals (control, thiourea 500 ppm twice at vegetative and pre flowering stage and thiourea 100 ppm twice at vegetative and pre flowering stage) thereby making eighteen treatment combinations tested in randomized block design with three replications. The results indicated that RGC 1066 variety recorded significantly higher plant height 60 DAS and at harvest and dry matter per meter row length at 30 DAS, 60 DAS and at harvest, number of pods/plant and seeds/pod, test weight, seed yield, stover yield and biological yield as compared to variety of RGC-1038. The result further indicated that application of fertilized 100% RDF significantly gave higher plant height at 60 DAS and at harvest similarly, dry matter per meter row length at 30 DAS, 60 DAS and at harvest, number of pods/plant and seeds/pod, test weight, seed yield, stover yield and biological yield recorded higher over control and fertilized with 50% RDF. Likewise, application of agro-chemical @ thiourea (500 ppm) significantly increased the plant height at 60 DAS and at harvest and dry matter per meter row length at 30 DAS, 60 DAS and at harvest, number of pods/plant and seeds/pod, test weight, seed yield, stover yield and biological yield and remained at par with the application of agro-chemical @ TGA (100 ppm) over control. However, plant height at 30 DAS remained materially unchanged under different varieties, fertility levels and agro-chemicals.
