Assessing quality is obviously a key concern in many aspects of learning, education and training, so why should it be especially crucial in relation to e-learning? The e-learners, as with other distance learners, are working in isolation with limited or sometimes non-existent human support. This means that the first impact of any failure in the providers’ quality assessment regime falls directly on the e-learner. When an e-learner encounters errors caused by a failure in a providers’ quality assessment regime the impact might be immediately evident or not become evident until the learner undertakes an assessed outcome. Since e-learning development is fundamentally a team-based activity, the effectiveness or quality of an e-learning program depends on the weakest link in the production chain. E-learning exists at a point of convergence between technology based disciplines and human-centered disciplines.

Abstract: Identification and hierarchy of risks in inventory management allow mapping and generating a plan of actions in order to control them, diminish them or even extinguish them. This research aims to identify and measure the degree of importance of the main problems encountered in the sector of a metal production chain. The method used to develop this research is the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), in order to hierarchize and thus defines the best way to manage risks. The main results of this study reveal that each area of the organization presents a risk that stands out in the management of inventories, allowing the company to control its expenses better, aligning itself with the companies' strategy of producing at the lowest cost. Excess consumption (demand), supplier delay (supply), and stock divergence (material handling) were highlighted as the major risks in their categories. This study revealed that in the category of demand risks, excess consumption was identified as the most critical risk, in the supply category, the supplier delay was identified at the highest risk and finally in the material handling category, the risk divergence of inventory obtained the highest percentage in relation to the other problems.

Spillage of diesel oil and other petroleum products is a commonly creating need for site remediation of contaminated soils. In Sweden the most common remediation action is excavation of the contaminated soil and off site biological treatment by composting. However, a number of small sites spread out in rural areas end up low on priority lists, and will not be attended to within foreseeable future if ever. For such areas a low cost, easy to apply remediation techniques would be of interest. Enhanced bioremediation of diesel contaminants in soil by whey addition has been demonstrated in lab scale. Whey is a by-product from cheese production. A first pilot remediation trial on an actual site in Gäddede, County of Jämtland, was started the summer of 2010. Using this site as a case study a screening life cycle assessment model has been set up. The goal of the study was to investigate the environmental performance of the whey method, to benchmark the whey method toward the excavation and composting practice and to identify environmental hot spots in the whey treatment life cycle. The study aims at establishing if further work should be put into developing the method, or if the environmental performance is such that the whey method should be abandoned. It should be noted that even with a slightly worse environmental performance compared to other remediation alternatives whey treatment could still be of interest, since the small scale sites in rural areas we talk about here otherwise most often would not be attended to. Results from the screening life cycle assessment indicate a rather good environmental performance of the whey method, partly depending on impact category considered. For the whey method, impacts from farming activities in the milk production chain allocated to the whey give significant contributions. Transportation gives important impacts from both the whey method and the excavation and off site composting, thus logistics should always be considered and optimized. The whey onsite treatment could be an interesting alternative for bioremediation especially at sites that would not otherwise be treated, due to small size or remote location.

A kórházban kezelt sebészeti és belgyógyászati betegekben jelentős a vénásthromboembolia-rizikó. Profilaxis nélkül, a műtét típusától függően, a sebészeti beavatkozások kapcsán a betegek 15–60%-ában alakul ki mélyvénás trombózis vagy tüdőembólia, és az utóbbi ma is vezető kórházi halálok. Bár a vénás thromboemboliát leggyakrabban a közelmúltban végzett műtéttel vagy traumával hozzák kapcsolatba, a szimptómás thromboemboliás események 50–70%-a és a fatális tüdőembóliák 70–80%-a nem a sebészeti betegekben alakul ki. Nemzetközi és hazai felmérések alapján a nagy kockázattal rendelkező sebészeti betegek többsége megkapja a szükséges trombózisprofilaxist. Azonban profilaxis nélkül marad a rizikóval rendelkező belgyógyászati betegek jelentős része, a konszenzuson alapuló nemzetközi és hazai irányelvi ajánlások ellenére. A belgyógyászati betegek körében növelni kell a profilaxisban részesülők arányát és el kell érni, hogy trombózisrizikó esetén a betegek megkapják a hatásos megelőzést. A beteg trombóziskockázatának felmérése fontos eszköze a vénás thromboembolia által veszélyeztetett betegek felderítésének, megkönnyíti a döntést a profilaxis elrendeléséről és javítja az irányelvi ajánlások betartását. A trombózisveszély megállapításakor, ha nem ellenjavallt, profilaxist kell alkalmazni. „A thromboemboliák kockázatának csökkentése és kezelése” című, 4. magyar antithromboticus irányelv felhívja a figyelmet a vénástrombózis-rizikó felmérésének szükségességére, és elsőként tartalmazza a kórházban fekvő belgyógyászati és sebészeti betegek kockázati kérdőívét. Ismertetjük a kockázatbecslő kérdőíveket és áttekintjük a kérdőívekben szereplő rizikófaktorokra vonatkozó bizonyítékokon alapuló adatokat.

Abstract This research was conducted with the main objective to develop a model of character education integrated with science learning in elementary, junior, and senior high schools. The research was focused on the needs analysis study involving 36 elementary school science teachers, 34 junior high school science teachers and 27 senior high school science teachers to collect information on science learning in relation to character education. Data were collected by questionnaires, observation and interviewing techniques. Data were analyzed by descriptive and qualitative meaning. The results showed that: 1) character education can be developed through selection of science learning model, assessment model, and teaching materials, 2) science learning models that contribute significantly to the development of the character of students are inquiry learning, problem-based learning, cooperative learning , science-technology-society, problem solving, and contextual learning models, 3) science teacher’s responses to the character education are generally very positive and seek to develop good character through a learning process, 4) some (55.3%) science teachers include indicators of character values that to be target of learning in the syllabus and lesson plans, and some (44.7%) do not explicitly specify its, but implicitly implied in the syllabus and lesson plans.
