The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of life (QOL) of students and to determine the relationship between state-trait anxiety levels and QOL. This research was done with ½ sampling method of 276 students at Erciyes University. The data were gathered via the WHOQOL-100 Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL Group, 1998) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, & Lushelle, 1970). The lowest scoring area in our study was the social impression facet. The area scoring highest was the personal belief area. Negative correlations were found between level of state anxiety and physical health, psychological well-being, and level of independence. Positive correlations were found between level of trait anxiety and physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, environment, overall QOL and general health perceptions.

The aim of this study was to analyze athletes’ quality of life during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study involved 249 athletes between 15 and 35 of age, M = 21.22, SD = 5.12. The sample was composed of eight Olympic Games medalists, three European medalists, 67 international medalists, and 63 national medalists. The instruments used were: (1) COVID-19 Anxiety Scale, (2) Athlete Quality of Life Scale, (3) Impact of Pandemic on Athletes Questionnaire, and (4) International Personality Item Pool (IPIP Anxiety, Depression, and Vulnerability Scales). The results indicate significant differences in COVID-19 anxiety depending on the sport practiced, F (9239) = 3.81, p < 0.01, showing that there were significant differences between sports. The negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic mediates the relationship between trait anxiety and the athletes’ quality of life. The percentage of mediation was 33.9%, and the indirect effect was −0.11, CI 95% (−0.18, −0.03), Z = −2.82, p < 0.01. Trait anxiety has an increasing effect on the intensity of the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, 0.23, CI 95% (.10, 0.35), Z = 3.56, p < 0.01, and the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has a decreasing effect on quality of life, −0.47, CI 95% (−0.67, −0.27), Z = −4.62, p < 0.01. Gender and age did not moderate the relationship between the negative impact of COVID-19 and athletes’ quality of life. The results of the study highlighted the impact that social isolation and quarantine have on athletes’ affective well-being.

Introduction: Health-related quality of life is a significant outcome of stroke survivors’ recovery. The 49-item English version of the Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SSQOL) (Williams et al., 2009) is a stroke-specific assessment of stroke survivors’ health-related quality of life in 12 domains. However there has been no Chinese version of the scale for Chinese stroke survivors in Hong Kong. Aim: To examine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SSQOL-C) in stroke survivors. Methods: SSQOL was translated into Chinese and blind back-translated by independent bilingual baccalaureate nursing students. Content validity was reviewed by an expert panel which consisted of one nurse academic, one nurse manager, three advanced practice nurses, and two registered nurses. A cross-sectional study was conducted to validate the translated version. A convenience sample of 135 adult stroke survivors were recruited from three community centres and a stroke support group in Hong Kong. Internal consistency analysis was performed. Pearson’s correlation coefficients were calculated between SSQOL-C, SF-36, and Frenchay Activities Index (FAI) to determine the convergent validity. Results: Content validity index of SSQOL-C was 0.99. SSQOL-C had high internal consistency with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.94 for the total scale, and between 0.65 and 0.90 for the 12 domains. The total SSQOL-C scores showed significant positive correlations with SF-36 physical health (r=0.58, p<0.01) and mental health (r=0.54, p<0.01) component scores, and FAI score (r=0.59, p<0.01). SSQOL-C physical subtotal scores showed significant positive correlations with SF-36 physical health (r=0.55, p<0.01) and mental health (r=0.43, p<0.01) component scores, and FAI score (r=0.54, p<0.01). SSQOL-C psychosocial subtotal scores showed significant positive correlations with SF-36 physical health (r=0.52, p<0.01) and mental health (r=0.56, p<0.01) component scores, and FAI score (r=0.56, p<0.01). Conclusion: The results showed SSQOL-C had good content and convergent validity, and reliability in Chinese stroke survivors. Further evaluation of factor structure of SSQOL-C will be conducted to determine its validity.

This study was conducted in order to analyze the effect of the nurses’ quality of work life based on fear about COVID-19 and examine the psychological well-being as a moderating variable in this relationship. The survey questionnaire was administered among nurses between 1 November 2020 and 14 November 2020. The self-report survey comprised the nurse information survey, Fear of COVID-19 Scale, work quality of life scale, and psychological well-being scale as data collection tools. Data were obtained from 339 nurses. The findings show that fear of COVID-19 negatively affects nurses’ quality of work life. It has been determined that PWB plays a moderating role in this relationship. While the fear of COVID-19 negatively affects the quality of work life in nurses with low psychological well-being, there is not any kind of significant effect on the quality of work life in nurses with high psychological well-being. This result shows that as the psychological well-being of nurses’ increases, fear of COVID-19 effect on quality of work life decreases. The results of the study show that responses designed to enhance psychological well-being can enhance nurses' working conditions that could reduce the negative effects of the fear of COVID-19. There is an urgent need for clinical and policy strategies to help increase nurses’ PWB in order to increase the quality of work life by reducing fear and also anxiety among nurses fighting on the front line during COVID-19.


Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem with global prevalence ranging from 11-13%. The process of chronic inflammation and malnutrition in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) is a medical condition that affects the quality of life. This study aims to determine the correlation of hs-CRP levels and nutritional status with quality life of CKD patients undergoing HD. This research is an analytical study, cross sectional design, conducted in December 2019 - March 2020 at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Based on the fisher's exact test of 37 samples, a significant correlation was found between hs-CRP and physical health (p = 0. 037, PR 1.6) and with psychological well- being (p = 0.045; PR 1.78). There was no correlation found between hs-CRP with social relations (p = 0.091; PR 1.7) and the environment (p = 0.078; PR 1.54). A significant correlation was found between nutritional status and several domains including physical health (p = 0.038; PR 1.6), psychological well-being (p = 0.005; PR 2.09), social correlations (p = 0.011; PR 2.48), and the environment (p = 0.012; PR 2.02). The study determinded that there was correlation found between hs-CRP levels with physical health and psychological well-being and between nutritional status with all domains of quality of life.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to changes in the habits of human beings with repercussions on psychological well-being from an emotional and affective point of view. So far, research in the literature has focused on the critical elements of distance learning from a connection point of view and software used. It is necessary to expand the research aimed at assessing the impact that the pandemic has had on the psychological well-being of teachers who have been asked not only to change their habits but at the same time the working context and teaching tools. The research was born as an observational study through structured interview, conducted on a sample of 38 randomly selected teachers, representative of the Calabria region. Each respondent was subjected to a questionnaire which explored the perceived psychological well-being and demographic descriptors, such as age, sex, marital status, city of residence, profession, city where they work, years of work, experience, duration of the working week, and the impact that the pandemic has had on their work. To assess the quality of life at work over the last 30 days, the Hundall Self Report proQOL – Professional Quality of Life Scale Questionnaire (2009) was used, consisting of 30 questions on a Likert scale (from 1”never” to 5 “very often”), which can be traced back to 3 dimension: Compassion Fatigue, Burnout and Compassion Satisfaction. The results have shown that a sudden and radical change in one’s habitual behaviors, as well as the way and context of work, have led teachers to have a reduced perception of the quality of life in one’s work environment. The man by nature has enchored to his daily habits and asking him to change his routine behavior involves a decompensating in the perception of his quality of life as demonstrated by the study conducted.

BackgroundThe healthcare system is among the institutions operating under the most challenging conditions during the period of outbreaks like pandemic which affects the whole world and leads to deaths. During pandemics that affect the society in terms of socioeconomic and mental aspects, the mental health of healthcare teams, who undertake a heavy social and work load, is affected by this situation.AimThis research was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of stress, anxiety, and burnout levels of healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants) caring for COVID-19 patients on their quality of life.MethodThe sample of the study consisted of a total of 240 healthcare professionals, determined by random sampling method among the healthcare professionals working in pandemic hospitals in Tokat city center, Turkey. Perceived Stress Scale, Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Maslach Burnout Inventory and Quality of Life Scale were used in the study conducted in the relational screening model.FindingsWhile the stress, trait anxiety, and quality of life mean scores of healthcare professionals who were female, married and had children were higher than the other groups, high, moderate, negative, and positive correlations were found among all variables.ConclusionThe research concluded that the stress, anxiety, and burnout of healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients affected their quality of life.
