Background: As the number of adults living with ASD continues to grow, a lack of resources and lack of available interventions exacerbate their low quality of life, including low levels of education and employment, and high levels of co-morbid anxiety and depression. Here we build upon existing research showing the effectiveness of contemplative interventions on individuals with ASD, to provide a low-cost biofeedback-enhanced training which can be implemented by non-professional staff, and may help autistic individuals grasp abstract contemplative techniques. We hypothesize that the intervention will decrease participants’ anxiety and autism symptoms, and increase their self-awareness, self-determination, and empathy.Method: Fourteen adults with ASD, residing in assisted living, were provided with 16 weekly half-hour contemplative-biofeedback sessions with non-professional trainers, in which they learned to reduce their arousal levels through combined biofeedback and contemplative techniques, and apply those to everyday life. Quantitative and qualitative data was collected pre- and post-intervention, to determine changes in participants’ self-awareness, self-determination, anxiety, autism symptoms, and empathy. Results: Participants were capable of successfully improving their physiological arousal levels on the biofeedback setup, and we found initial indications for gains in all hypothesized domains on the quantitative measures. Qualitative reports by participants and counselors revealed that participants applied the techniques in many real-life situations, and these had far-ranging effects on their emotional regulation, work and social motivation, and self-determination.Conclusions: The study provides proof-of-concept for a low-cost, community-based intervention which can ameliorate the lives of adults with ASD.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between nursing professionalism, academic emotional regulation, and college life adjustment level and to identify the influence of nursing professionalism and academic emotional regulation on college life adjustment. Methods: Data collection was conducted with 142 junior and senior nursing college students using structured self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 22.0. Results: There was a positive correlation between nursing professionalism, academic emotional adjustment, and college life adjustment. The significant predictors of overall college life adjustment were major satisfaction, nursing professionalism, and academic emotional regulation. The significant predictors of clinical practice adjustment were gender, major satisfaction, and nursing professionalism. Conclusion: When developing a program to improve college life adjustment in nursing college students, it is necessary to find ways to improve nursing professionalism and academic emotional regulation as well as major satisfaction.

Guided by Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this study examined the relationships among parenting (autonomy-supportive and controlling), major choice motivations (autonomous and controlled), and academic major satisfaction with a sample of 525 Filipino college students. Consistent with the hypotheses, the results of structural equation modeling indicated that perceived autonomy-supportive and controlling parenting were positively associated with autonomous and controlled major choice motivations, respectively. In addition, autonomous and controlled major choice motivations differentially predicted academic major satisfaction. Findings also revealed that while autonomous major choice motivation mediated the relation between autonomy-supportive parenting and academic major satisfaction, controlled major choice motivation mediated the association between controlling parenting and academic major satisfaction. Practical implications and directions for future research are discussed.

Emotional regulation, decision making, self-determination and social-adjustment psychologically-based responses that assist an organism meet challenges and chances, and involve changes in individual experience, behavior, feeling and physiology. The present study was designed to highlight living place difference, marital difference and socioeconomic difference among asthma patients on emotional regulation, decision making, selfdetermination and social-adjustment. For this purpose, data of N= 1000 asthma patients (male n= 500, female n= 500) was taken from different government, private, and semi government hospitals of Punjab Pakistan through purposive sampling. The information was obtained by Urdu version emotional regulation scale (Gratz& Roemer, 2004),decision making scale (Darden & Hall, 1996), self-determination scale (Wehmeyer, 1995) and social adjustment scale (Weissmanz & Bothwell, 1976). After the collection of data, t-test was used to analyze the data. The findings approximately supported the hypotheses. The results particularized that significant difference (**p<.01, ***p<.01) between emotional regulation, decision making, self-determination and social-adjustment in the terms of living place ((rural or urban) and also significant difference (**p<.01, ***p<.01) between emotional regulation, decision making, self-determination and social-adjustment in the term of marital status (married or unmarried) among asthma patients. Furthermore, attained significant difference (**p<.01, ***p<.01) between fourth constructs in the terms of socio economic difference (upper class or poor class) among asthma patients
