Purpose The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that underpin consumer switching intention in the smartphone industry. Most of the literature on brand switching uses conventional models that lack the ability to explain this behavior for high-technology products. Such products have unique characteristics that make the switching process more challenging from the consumer perspective. Design/methodology/approach The proposed model is built based on the related theories that consider the distinctive aspects of high-technology products. Furthermore, two variables “relative advantage of product features” and “company innovativeness” are introduced for the first time to evaluate consumer attitude to switch a high-technology product. The smartphone industry was selected to test the proposed model, where an online survey was sent to Apple and Samsung users. Findings The results confirm the expectation that perceived product usefulness, perceived ease of use and relative advantage of product features are the major factors driving the intention of users to switch, whereas subjective norms have limited impact. The financial cost of switching is the main barrier to consumers’ decision to switch to a new technology. The pleasure consumers feel toward their brand and the other brand is positively associated with their attitude toward switching. Research limitations/implications This research contributes to the literature on brand switching by introducing a comprehensive model that explains consumer switching behavior of high-technology products. Research findings would allow managers to draft better marketing strategies to improve consumer brand awareness. Originality/value The majority of literature on brand switching uses simple models to explain consumer behavior. This study is the first attempt to build a comprehensive model that considers the characteristics of high-technology products and how they shape consumer behavior during the decision-making process.

The author presents a vision of the mainstream vectors of global development against the backdrop of the “Grand Challenges” of the 21st century. He formulates optimal ways for Russia and Africa to interact in order to achieve the goals set by the UN Third International Conference on Financing for Development. The author proposes a RUSAFRICA project, which combines a dual goal of boosting economic, social and technological development of both Russia and Africa. The project envisages an integrated cooperative approach to mutually significant economic, technological and infrastructural requirements and capacities while prioritizing the human development aspect. Innovative approaches to mutual cooperation shale open ways to promoting Russian technologies and innovative products to new markets, generating growth of income from exports of high technology products and services with the aim to enhance Russia’s influence and competitive strengths, in accordance with the Scientific and Technological Development Strategy of the Russian Federation.

While the performance evaluation of reverse logistics (RL) practices in the construction sector is crucial, it is seemingly limited compared to that in the manufacturing sector. As the project life cycle in the construction sector is typically long, effective coordination among the stakeholders is needed to integrate RL into each phase of the project life cycle. This paper proposes a new model of RL for the construction industry, incorporating the dimensions, elements, and, most importantly, indicators needed for the evaluation of RL performance. The model was initially derived from the extant literature. It was then refined through (1) focus group discussion, by which suggestions pertinent to the proposed model were collated from academics and practitioners, and (2) judgments by academics and practitioners to validate the model. The validated model includes 21 indicators to measure RL performance, spanned throughout the green initiation, green design, green material management, green construction, and green operation and maintenance phases. The paper offers a new method for how RL can be adopted in the construction industry by proposing an innovative model that will benefit stakeholders in the construction industry.

Current technological development changes the people's lifestyle becoming progressively modern. Technological development encourages the rapid digitalization that occurs in all countries. The incapability of a country to meet domestic demand for digital products that are closely related to high technology content drives the import of high technology products. On the other hand, the development of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is essential in order to support the development of domestic technology of a country due to its spillover effects. ASEAN 6 is a highly attractive for foreign investors as it has strategic location, large market share and abundant resources. This study examines the influence of FDI and innovation on imported high technology products in ASEAN 6. This research employed the panel data analysis from six ASEAN countries during the period of 2007 to 2016. The results of this study indicated that FDI and innovation have a positive effect on imports of high products technology in ASEAN 6.

The research aim was to develop a model for determining rational micro and macro‐level factors for the construction industry in Lithuania by undertaking a complex analysis of environment affecting it and to give recommendations on the increase of its competitive ability. In modelling and forecasting future perspectives and the main development trends of the Lithuanian construction industry, it is possible to be prepared for effective changes in environment. The analysis of construction industry in developed countries and Lithuania can allow identify areas where the situation in Lithuania is comparable, partly comparable with or quite different from the level attained by the above foreign countries. The data of this analysis can be used in identifying construction industry development trends in developed countries as well as providing some recommendations for Lithuania. Proposed model would be designed to give insights into the factors which affect the construction and which require effective management. In order to demonstrate the application of the above research to developing rational model of Lithuanian construction industry some recommendations for improving situation in Lithuanian construction are presented.



The real estate market in Malaysia is growing as the nation grows more prosperous. There were 376,583 transactions recorded in Malaysia in 2010 with an aggregate worth RM107.44 billion (Construction Industry Development ,2016). This study intends to inspect the factors that drive consumer’s intention to use online property website. Previous literature does not include in-depth analyses such as consumer behavior. Hence, this conceptual paper proposes a model the key constructs that determine consumers’ intention to use online property website based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) model. The proposed model integrates the S-O-R model with atmospheric cues from websites such as informativeness, effectiveness and entertainment. The results of the study provide significant insights the phenomenon of using online property ads and factors that influence consumers’ intention regarding online property websites. Recommendations for future research are also presented.
