<p>Estimation of Genetic Variability and Correlation Among Early Maturity Mungbean Yield Components. Ratri T. Hapsari. Early maturity mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] is very important to avoid drought stress, pest and disease attack as well as increase the index planting. The aims of this research was to estimate genetic variability and correlation. The genetic study included heritability, coefficient of genetic variability, genetic advance and correlation among yield components so that it can be used as selection criteria for early maturity mungbean. A total of 145 accessions of mungbean were tested at Muneng farm station in March-June 2010 using a randomized block design, with two replicates. Each accession was planted at 0.8 m x 4 m with spacing 40 cm x 10 cm, with two plants/hole. Fertilization was done by adding 50 kg urea, 75 kg SP36, and 75 kg KCl/ha, at the time of planting. The results showed that mungbean accesions had significant differences in all characters tested. The genetic variance value of all characters was broad with high broadsense heritability estimates, except for number of pods/ cluster and seed number/pod. Genetic advance of all characters were high, except for seed number/pod. The phenotypic correlation between 1000 seeds weight and pod length with seed yield were positive significant while plant height, flowering days, days to maturity, and number of pods per plant had negative significant correlation with its yield. Therefore, plant height, days to maturity, pod lenght, 1000 seeds weight and seed yield could be used as selection criteria based on estimating value of genetic variability, correlation with yield and economic value. There were five genotype which have index value above 20, i.e MLGV 0353, MLGV 0362, MLGV 0354, MLGV 0358, and MLGV 0351.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstrak</strong></p><p>Kacang hijau [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] berumur genjah berperan penting untuk menghindari cekaman kekeringan, serangan hama penyakit, dan meningkatkan indeks pertanaman. Kemajuan genetik seluruh karakter tinggi, kecuali jumlah biji/polong.

Abstract Seed yield of Valencia peanut (Arachis hypogaea L. ssp. fastigiata Waldron var. fastigiata) cultivars currently grown in Ontario. Canada appears quite sensitive to cooler or shorter than normal growing seasons. High seed yield may be associated with high percentage emergence and early maturity in this unique peanut-growing region. Selection for percentage emergence and maturity was practiced among F2 derived F4 families of five populations. Maturity was determined by percentage of pod yield as sound mature seeds Percentage emergence selections and percentage sound mature seed selections were recombined in a Comstock and Robinson design II mating design to develop 16 crosses. F3 and F4 bulk progeny of these Crosses were entered in three trials in two locations. Crosses on average had significantly higher percentage emergence and percentage sound mature seeds than the ancestors at only the coolest, shortest season location. Crosses on average were not significantly different from ancestors for pod or seed yield in any trial. General combining ability (GCA) and its interaction with trial were Significant for all characteristics except percentage emergence for the percentage sound mature seed selections. The GCA x trial interactions appeared to be associated with differences in rainfall and temperature in August and September between the two years. Specific combining ability and its interaction with trial were also significant for all characteristics except emergence.

Early maturity, small seed size, and high seed yield are important characters of mungbean in Indonesia. The objective of the study was to determine the useful parents in mungbean crosses for early maturity, small seed size, and high seed yield varieties by estimating the genetic parameters and their inheritance. The study was conducted at the ILETRI, Malang, East Java, Indonesia, during the dry season of 2014. 20 F1 and 5 parents were evaluated using a randomized block design, repeated three times. Results of the study showed that all observed traits showed the importance of both additive and dominance gene effects. The relative value of general combining ability (GCA) was greater than specific combining ability (SCA) for number of pod clusters per plant, number of branches per plant, plant height, days to maturity, and 100-seed weight which indicated the importance of additive gene effect. The dominance gene effect occurred on number of pods and seed yield per plant. Among five parents, G3 was the best combiner for all the observed characters except pod length; therefore, G3 could be exploited for late maturity, small seed size, high number of branches and pod cluster, and high seed yield. G5 has a high GCA for 100-seed weight. G1 and G2 have good GCA for early maturity. G3 and G5 genotypes are useful as parents in mungbean breeding for small and large seed size varieties, respectively. The best combination for seed yield was G2 × G3 and G3 × G1 crosses and could be proceeded with selection for early maturity, small seed size, and high seed yield varieties.

Specific leaf weight (SLW) and ribulose 1,5-diphosphate carboxylase (RuDPCase) were determined for 20 mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) varieties. Varietal difference was significant for SLW and RuDPCase at the early reproductive stage. Significant and positive correlations were also found among SLW, RuDPCase, harvest index (HI), and seed yield. Results imply that high seed yield of mungbean could be associated with high photosynthetic rates and efficient partitioning of photosynthate. It was concluded that increasing seed yield in mungbean should be possible by selecting for (1) high SLW, (2) high HI, and (3) an increased RuDPCase activity.

An investigation was carried out to estimate the genetic divergence for twenty characters in 50 genotypes of greengram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] using Mahalanobis's D2 statistic and total of eight clusters were formed. The highest number of genotypes were found in cluster II containing sixteen genotypes followed by cluster I with thirteen genotypes, cluster IV with ten genotypes, cluster VI with five genotypes, cluster VIII with three genotypes and clusters III, V and VII with only one genotype. Highest intra-cluster distance was observed for cluster IV (87.54) and lowest intra cluster distance was observed for clusters III, V and VII. The highest inter-cluster distance was observed between cluster IV and VIII (285.11),while the lowest inter cluster distance was observed between cluster VI and VII (251.29). Among the characters studied, phenols content contributed the maximum (32.57 %) towards the diversity. The genotypes present in the clusters V (COGG-13-19) and VII (LGG-544) showed high seed yield performance so, cross obtained between these genotypes will give better performance for yield. The genotypes in the cluster VI (GGG-1, GGG-1-1, IPM-2-14, WGG-42, EC-396117) and cluster III (AGG-35) exhibited resistance to YMV. Hence, the crosses among cluster V, VII, VI and III would give high seed yield along with YMV disease resistance.

The experience of cultivation of soybeans in SC "Agricultural machinery" of the Kaluga region on an area of 190 hectares shows that the soybean variety Alaska is sufficiently adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of this region, provides a high seed yield (up to 32 c / ha) and a high yield (up to 1344 kg / ha) relatively inexpensive protein. However, this variety has a long growing season (95-105 days) and therefore desiccation of crops is required for harvesting for seeds.

Abstract The aim of this work was to develop a red clover variety adapted to agro-climatic conditions of Latvia, suitable for different requirements of forage producers, resistant to most widespread diseases and producing high seed yield annually. Medium late ripening diploid red clover variety ‘Jancis’ was created at the LLU Research Institute of Agriculture in long-term work carried out since 1985. After free pollination of best samples of red clover collections from the VIR (St. Petersburg), individual and family selection among hybrids were carried out for approximately 20 years. Finally, best breeding line Nr. 43047 was registered as a variety ‘Jancis’. The variety is characterised by good winter hardiness, high dry matter yield (10-12 t·ha-1) and good persistence in the sward - up to 3-4 years. The variety is characterised by a long stem (90-110 cm) with 8-9 internodes, dark green leaves with a distinctive brighter picture, medium length and width of medial leaflet, and bright pink flower heads. ‘Jancis’ has stable annual seed yield in the conditions of Latvia; under favourable conditions reaching 500- 600 kg·ha-1 seeds. Since 2010, the variety ‘Jancis’ has been included in the common Latvian and EU Plant Variety Catalogue.
