Objective: To present a rare case of congenital maxillomandibular fusion or syngnathia. Methods: Study Design: Case report Setting: Tertiary Private Teaching Hospital Patient: One Results: A 3-year-old girl with oral adhesion (syngnathia) caused by a mandibular to maxillary fibrous band underwent successful surgical division of maxillomandibular bony fusion. Subsequent monitoring and serial oral dilations were performed post operatively, resulting in mouth opening of 24mm over a period of 3 months. Currently, the patient is able to tolerate a general liquid diet. Conclusion: Congenital maxillomandibular fusion is a very rare condition with few cases reported. We hope this report contributes to its diagnosis and management in other children. Keywords: Congenital maxillomandibular fusion, syngnathia

SummaryObjective: To quantitatively evaluate the change of the coxofemoral joints using computed tomography and distraction index in a cat with hip dysplasia treated by juvenile pubic symphysiodesis.Study Design: Case report.Animal: Eighteen-week-old female entire Maine Coon cat. Results: Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis resulted in changes in the distraction index, acetabular angle, dorsal acetabular rim angle, dorsal acetabular sector angle, and clinical improvement at the six month follow-up. No intra-operative or postoperative complications were recorded. Conclusions: Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis performed at 18 weeks of age resulted in improvement in hip joint conformation and hip laxity in a dysplastic cat.Clinical relevance: Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis may be a promising treatment for feline hip dysplasia and is a safe and technically simple procedure to perform. Further investigations are warranted.

Objective This study is a case description of femoral neck lengthening and dorsal acetabular rim (DAR) arthroplasty to treat severe hip luxation in a 5-month-old male Cocker Spaniel (14.3 kg) and to compare the clinical outcome with that of contralateral femoral neck excision. Study design Case report. Results Femoral head coverage improved after surgery (preoperative lateralization of the centre of the femoral head with regard to the dorsolateral acetabular rim: 10 mm; postoperative lateralization of the centre of the femoral head: –1.3 mm). The postoperative Barden's test was negative. The dog was bearing weight 2 weeks postoperatively. Radiographic signs of bone healing were present at the 6-week follow-up examination. No complications were detected. Conclusions Femoral neck lengthening and DAR augmentation were performed in a growing dog affected by severe hip luxation and DAR insufficiency.

Objective: To report two cases of mucosal melanoma of the sinonasal cavity from India and review the literature emphasizing current important clinical and biologic aspects of this tumor.   Methods: Design: Case Report Setting: Tertiary Public Referral Hospital Patients: Two   Results: Two patients presenting with progressive unilateral nasal obstruction over three to six months, respectively, were diagnosed to have sinonasal mucosal melanoma. The mass involved the nasal cavity and maxillary antrum in both patients. The first patient deferred radiotherapy for four months until pulmonary metastasis became evident, necessitating palliative chemotherapy; the second patient underwent surgical excision and radiotherapy.   Conclusion: In spite of aggressive therapy, the prognosis for people with mucosal melanoma is extremely poor. Surgery remains the mainstay of treatment, although adjuvant radiation therapy has recently had an increasing role in the treatment of mucosal melanoma. A clear understanding of the pathophysiology of this disease may yield more specific immunotherapy and chemotherapy techniques. A multicenter prospective study is required to objectively assess the optimal treatment regimen.   Keywords: mucosal melanoma, sinonasal cavity

CONTEXT: Supernumerary breast tissue may be affected by the same diseases and alterations that compromise topical breast tissue. Nevertheless, reports of fibroadenoma in supernumerary breast tissue in the axillae are rare. OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of fibroadenoma in an axillary supernumerary breast. DESIGN: Case report. CASE REPORT: A 39-year-old woman was referred to the gynecology and obstetrics outpatient clinic at Hospital Estadual Sumaré, complaining of bilateral axillary masses. The patient reported cosmetic problems and local pain and discomfort. On physical examination, alterations compatible with bilateral axillary accessory breasts, without palpable nodules, were observed. Supplementary examinations (mammography and ultrasonography) revealed a 1.1 cm mass in the right axillary breast. The patient underwent resection of the supernumerary breasts and histopathological examination revealed fibroadenoma of the right axillary breast tissue.

AbstractObjectives:A case of tracheopathia chondro-osteoplastica causing sub-glottic stenosis is described.Study design:Case report and literature review.Materials and methods:A 37-year-old man presented with a 15-year history of gradually worsening dyspnoea and stridor due to sub-glottic stenosis. His medical and radiographic records were reviewed. This patient's presentation, histopathological findings and radiology images are presented and discussed. Results:Histopathological evaluation of microlaryngoscopy biopsy specimens, taken during laser debulking of the stenosis, confirmed the presence of tracheopathia chondro-osteoplastica.Conclusions:This is the first reported case of sub-glottic stenosis caused by tracheopathia chondro-osteoplastica which required an urgent tracheostomy.

Objective:  To report a rare case of upper airway obstruction from multiple pharyngeal masses due to nasopharyngeal tuberculosis in a 22-year-old male. Methods: Design:  Case Report Setting:  Tertiary Government Hospital Patient:  One   Result: A 22-year-old Filipino male with upper airway obstruction from multiple pharyngeal masses was diagnosed to have nasopharyngeal tuberculosis by histopathology. He improved after six months of anti-tuberculosis medications. Conclusion: Tuberculosis should not be overlooked in the differential diagnoses of nasopharyngeal masses because of the difference in its management, and swift and adequate cure, compared to other nasopharyngeal pathologies. Keywords:  tuberculosis, nasopharynx, mycobacteria, hypopharyngeal mass, upper airway obstruction
