The calcium looping thermochemical thermal energy storage is one of the best high-temperature heat storage schemes for 3th concentrating solar power photothermal power, but its application is restricted by the inherent low solar absorptance and poor cyclic stability of CaCO3/CaO. Herein, the solar absorptance of CaCO3 particles is enhanced by doping Mn-Fe oxides, meanwhile, awns of setaria faberis and microcrystalline cellulose are used as bio-templates to generate pores inside the particles. The test results show that the prepared particles possess adequate anti-crushing strength, high cyclic stability, high solar absorption, and high carbonation rate. In addition, the carbonation kinetic equation of the composite porous particles is studied with the influence factors such as CO2 partial pressure, reaction temperature, and particle morphology taken into consideration. is of great significance for the design and regulation of the carbonator achieving highly stable heat output in the CaL thermochemical heat storage system.

The mass introduction of renewable energy is essential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. We examined an operation method that combines the surplus energy of photovoltaic power generation using demand response (DR), which recognizes the balance between power supply and demand, with an aquifer heat storage system. In the case that predicts the occurrence of DR and performs DR storage and heat dissipation operation, the result was an operation that can suppress daytime power consumption without increasing total power consumption. Case 1-2, which performs nighttime heat storage operation for about 6 h, has become an operation that suppresses daytime power consumption by more than 60%. Furthermore, the increase in total power consumption was suppressed by combining DR heat storage operation. The long night heat storage operation did not use up the heat storage amount. Therefore, it is recommended to the heat storage operation at night as much as possible before DR occurs. In the target area of this study, the underground temperature was 19.1 °C, the room temperature during cooling was about 25 °C and groundwater could be used as the heat source. The aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) system in this study uses three wells, and consists of a well that pumps groundwater, a heat storage well that stores heat and a well that used heat and then returns it. Care must be taken using such an operation method depending on the layer configuration.

Cost-effective integrated storage systems are important components for the accelerated market penetration of solarthermal power plants. Besides extended utilization of the power block, the main benefits of storage systems are improved efficiency of components, and facilitated integration into the electrical grids. For parabolic trough power plants using synthetic oil as the heat transfer medium, the application of solid media sensible heat storage is an attractive option in terms of investment and maintenance costs. For commercial oil trough technology, a solid media sensible heat storage system was developed and tested. One focus of the project was the cost reduction of the heat exchanger; the second focus lies in the energetic and exergetic analysis of modular storage operation concepts, including a cost assessment of these concepts. The results show that technically there are various interesting ways to improve storage performance. However, these efforts do not improve the economical aspect. Therefore, the tube register with straight parallel tubes without additional structures to enhance heat transfer has been identified as the best option concerning manufacturing aspects and investment costs. The results of the energetic and exergetic analysis of modular storage integration and operation concepts show a significant potential for economic optimization. An increase of more than 100% in storage capacity or a reduction of more than a factor of 2 in storage size and therefore investment cost for the storage system was calculated. A complete economical analysis, including the additional costs for this concept on the solar field piping and control, still has to be performed.
