Abstract The article presents a research that investigated the representations of the “public school student” constructed by public elementary school teachers of Rio de Janeiro. Using the structural approach proposed by Abric, one concluded that the nucleus of the representation is constituted by the elements poor and learns to make it on his own. Comparing these results with those obtained in the previous steps of the research, it can be observed that, to the teachers, the student has to learn to make it on his own because he is poor and poverty would imply family desegregation and struggle for survival, preventing the parents from providing their children with the attention they need. Given all those characteristics, this student would represent a challenge to the teachers, but this is a challenge they feel they are impotent to cope with. Keywords: social representations; public school student; family and school; school failure.

The field of school leadership has been continuously increasing in demands and had currently occupied the idea of distributed leadership. Distributed leadership is leadership that is "stretched over leaders and followers, which is beneficial in settings such as schools (Bonneville, 2017). The call for teachers as leaders in school to help implement the K-12 educational system had engaged them to take on collaborative roles. Thus, the study intended to describe the level of awareness and extent of practices of distributed leadership in terms of types such as collaborative, collective, and coordinated as assessed by public elementary school teachers. Effective reading instruction is considered one the best means of preventing school failure. This study examines how effective teaching practices of reading are formed among five exemplary elementary school teachers. By using a life history protocol informed by phenomenology, these teachers describe their past and present experiences as readers and teachers, and then explain the meaning they make out of these experiences. Individual and comparative analysis reveal that, although these teachers exhibit different experiences and teaching strategies, they share many personal and contextual experiences, such as reading models and engagement, reflection on practice and the importance of sharing experiences.

Managing students in the classrooms with multiple intelligences is one of the tough issues teachers encounter. The practice of multiple intelligences instruction depends mainly on the teacher's performance in teaching. That is to challenge the students by setting high standards for further achievement and evaluate students' progress. The theory of Multiple Intelligence (MI) resonates with many educators. It gives an idea to create a relatively even distribution of students of different abilities and diverse educational needs. It has been found out that teachers who based their instructional practices on MI theory have more authentic classrooms, and students are more genuinely engaged in class. Hence, the paper describes the extent of multiple intelligences instructional practices and the level of teaching performance of the public elementary school. Likewise, it sought to determine the significant relationship between multiple intelligences instructional practices, teaching performance, and demographic profile of teachers.

The following report gives a brief summary of the receipts and expenditures of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for the 1963–64 fiscal year, which ended May 31, 1964. Actual receipts were approximately $22,000 more than the expected receipts, while the expenditures were approximately $29,000 less than was budgeted. The excess of expenses over revenues, almost $118,000, was spent primarily for special projects, such as the public relations film, Mathematics for Tomorrow; the experimental materials that have been written for the non-college-bound student, Experiences in Mathematical Discovery; the films for teachers of arithmetic; and the writing of the eight booklets, Topics in Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers. $147,600 was budgeted for the special projects.
