IMPROVING STUDENTS’ WRITING ACHIEVEMENT IN THE REPORT TEXT THROUGH FILM

This research concerns on improving students’ writing achievement in the report text through film.  The objective was to find out the improvement of students’ writing achievement in writing the report text through film. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the research was XI IPA grade students of SMA SWASWTA JOSUA Medan. The numbers of students were thirty one students. They were taught writing the report text through film. The instruments used were writing report text test, diary notes, interview sheets, questionnaire sheets and observation sheets. In analyzing data, the mean of students’ score for the first competency test was 43.1, for the second competency test was 64.8 and for the third competency test was 76.3 and the total percentage of improvement from the first competency test to the third competency test was 84.1%. The conclusion is that through watching film can improve the students’ writing achievement in the report text. It is suggested that teachers should apply watching film as one of media to improve students’ writing achievement in the report text.

This research concerns on improving students’ achievement in reading descriptive text through accelerated learning.  The objective was to find out the improvement of students’ achievement in reading descriptive text. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the research was VIII-2 students of SMP Taman Harapan Medan. The numbers of students were thirty students. They were taught reading descriptive text through accelerated learning. The instruments used were reading descriptive text test, diary notes, interview sheets, and observation sheets. In analyzing data, the mean of students’ score for the first competency test was 49,67, for the second competency test was 68,67 and for the third competency test was 82,6 and the total percentage of improvement from the first competency test to the third competency test was 66,6%. The conclusion is that through accelerated learning can improve the students’ reading achievement in descriptive text. It is suggested that teachers should apply accelerated learning as one of strategy to improve students’ reading achievement in descriptive text.

This study presents a research report on improving students’ Learning results on IPA through Video. The objective was to find out whether students’ learning result improved when they are taught by using Video. It was conducted using classroom action research method. The subject of the study was the Grade IV students of SDN 187/IV Kota Jambi which is located on Jln. Adi Sucipto RT 05 Kecamatan Jambi Selatan, and the number of the students were 21 persons. The instruments used were test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the on fisrt sycle was 65,4 (42,85%) and the mean on cycle two was 68,5 (37,15%) and the mean of the third cycle was 81,4 (100%). Then it can be concluded that the use of video on learning IPA can improve the students’ learning result. It is suggested that teachers should use video as one of the media to improve students’ learning result on IPA.Keywords : IPA, students’ learning result, video

This study attempts to improve students’ writing achievement in recount text through Think-Pair-Share Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMPN 1 Pematangsiantar. The number of the students was 32 students, consisted of 5 males and twenty seven females. The research was conducted in two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, interview sheet and questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the writing score, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the first test as a pre-test was 57.84, for the second test as a post test I was 73.56, for the third test as a post test II was 77.56. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Think-Pair-Share Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Think Pair Share, Writing, Recount text, Action research

<p>This study presents a research report on improving students’ Knowledge on <br />learning Aljabar through Cross Age Tutoring. The objective was to find out whether students’ knowledge improved taught by Cross Age Tutoring. It was conducted using classroom action research method. The subject of the study was the Grade VIII students of State Junior High School 175, Jakarta. One class from eight parallel classes was taken as the subject of this research namely the grade VIII.3. The numbers of the students were 36. They were taught Aljabar using Cross Age Tutoring technique. The instruments used were test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the pre-test was 4.1, <br />for progressing- test1 was 4.7, for progressing-test2 (Post Test for first Cycle) was 5,6, for progressing-test3 was 6,6 and the post-test (Second Cycle) was 7,2 and the total percentage of the improvement from the pre-test to post-test was 75,6%. The conclusion is that the Cross Age Tutoring can improve the students’ knowledge on learning algebra. It is suggested that teachers should apply Cross Age Tutoring technique as one of the strategies to improve students’ knowledge on learning algebra. <br /> <br /><br /></p>

ABSTRACT   This study concerns on improving students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text through guided writing technique. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the study was class XI IA-1 students of SMA Negeri 17 Medan, which consisted of 36 students. The research was conducted in two cycles, which each cycle consisted of three treatments. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (analytical exposition writing assessment) and qualitative data (diary notes, interview sheet, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet). Based on the students’ scores, students’ writing skill kept improving in every assessment given. The mean of the students’ score for the first competence as orientation test was 68, 12, the second competence test was 71,93, the third competence test was 79,87, and the total percentage of the improvement from the first competence test to the third competence test was 93,7%. Based on diary notes, observation sheet, questionnaire sheet, and interview report, it was found that the teaching-learning process ran well. The students were active, interested, and enthusiastic in writing. The results indicated that Guided Writing Technique improved the students’ writing achievement in analytical exposition text.   Keywords: students’ achievement, writing, analytical exposition text, guided writing technique

This study attempts to Improving Students’ Achievement Through the Process GenreApproach. The objective of the study is to discover whether the use of the ProcessGenre approach could significantly improve students’ writing achievement. This studyconduct by applying Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles inten meetings. The subject of this study of SMA Panca Budi Medan which consisted of39 students of class X – 2 reguler.. Orientation test was done in the first meeting, test IIwas done in the fourth meeting, and test III was done in the last meeting. The mean ofstudents’ score test III (76,242) was higher than the test II (66,878) and test I (57,606).Besides, the qualitative data was taken from observation sheet, interview, questionnaire,and diary notes. It was found that teaching learning process ran well. By applying theProcess Genre Approach in the classroom, the students understood the content ofdescriptive text easily. They also were active and enthusiastic during the teachinglearning process. The result of the research showed that the application of the ProcessGenre approach significantly improved students’ achievement in writing descriptive text

Abstract This study concerrns with Improving the Students Writing Narrative Text by Applying Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique.The objective was to investigate improvement of students’ writing narrative text by applying Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the study was grade VIII students of MTS Al- Hasanah Medan totalling to 29 students. They were taught writing by cooperative integrated reading and composition technique. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data and qualitative data (observation sheet, questionnaire sheet, and interview sheet). Based on the test score of quantitative data, students’ score kept improving in every evaluation. In the orientation test the mean was 43, 2, in the cycle I test the mean was 55, 6. In the cycle II test the mean was 67.2. The percentage of orientation test was 10, 34%, cycle I test was 24, 13% and cycle II test was 86, 20%. The finding of the research showed that applying Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique significantly improved students’ writing. The qualitative data show that the students were more interested and motivated on writing through cooperative integrated reading and composition technique. It is suggested that teachers should apply cooperative integrated reading and composition technique as one of methods to improve students’ writing. This study concerns with improving grade VIII students’ achievement in writing procedural Paragraph through demonstration method. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the study was grade VIII students of SMP N 2 Babalan which consisted of 35 students. The instruments for collecting data were primary data (writing test) and secondary data (interview sheet, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet). Based on writing scores, students’ score kept improving in every evaluation. In the test I the mean was 64,91, in the test II the mean was 74,57 . Based on interview, observation, and questionnaire sheet, it was found that teaching-learning process ran well. Students were active, creative to give their idea, enthusiastic, and interested in writing. The finding of the research showed that applying demonstration method significantly improved students’ writing achievement.
