IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT THROUGH THINK PAIR SHARE

This study attempts to improve students’ writing achievement in recount text through Think-Pair-Share Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMPN 1 Pematangsiantar. The number of the students was 32 students, consisted of 5 males and twenty seven females. The research was conducted in two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, interview sheet and questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the writing score, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the first test as a pre-test was 57.84, for the second test as a post test I was 73.56, for the third test as a post test II was 77.56. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Think-Pair-Share Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Think Pair Share, Writing, Recount text, Action research

This study concerned with the improvement of students’ achievement in writing descriptive text by applying Questioning technique. The objective of this study was to discover whether questioning technique could significantly improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. It was conducted by using classroom action research which was carried out in two cycles in six meetings. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMP Negeri 2 Lima Puluh. The number of the students was 30. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the students’ writing test, the students’ score was improved in every test. In the first test, the mean score was 59.86. In the second test, the mean score was 67.80. In the last test, the mean score of the students was 74.63. In the line with the data, it was showed that questioning technique significantly improved students’ achievement in writing descriptive text.

This study attempts to improve students’ vocabulary achievement through Clustering Technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-B SMP Katolik Trisakti 2 Medan that consisted of 32 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments for collecting data were vocabulary tests for quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet for qualitative data. Students’ score kept improving in every test. In the first cycle test, the mean of vocabulary score was 64.68. And in the second cycle test, the mean of vocabulary score was 79.85. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, teaching and learning process had done effectively showed the improvement. Every student was studied actively. And from the research can be concluded that Clustering Technique can improve students’ achievement in vocabulary.

The main objective of this research was to find out whether students’ reading comprehensionimproved when taught using reciprocal teaching. The research method was classroom actionresearch. The subject of this research was the 35 students of class VIII B at SMP YADIKA 2,consisted of six males and twenty nine females students. The qualitative data obtained frominterview, observation, and researcher’s diary notes, while the quantitative data obtained fromthe pre – test and post – test. The result indicated that there was an improvement of students’reading comprehension. It can be seen from the mean score of the students (Pre – test: 60.21;post – test cycle 1: 74.42; and post – test cycle 2: 86.78). In addition, from the interview resultthe researcher found that the students enjoyed learning reading using reciprocal teaching. Theconclusion of the research is that reciprocal teaching technique can improve the students’ readingcomprehension. It is suggested that teachers should apply reciprocal teaching as a teachingtechnique in the classroom.Keywords: classroom action reasearch, reading comprehension, reciprocal teaching.

This study aims to improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text through Mind Mapping technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMP Negeri 3 Tanjung Beringin which consisted of 30 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and every cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments of collecting data were quantitative data (writing tests) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet, and interview sheet). In analyzing the data, the students’ mean was 60.46 for the test I, in the test II was 67.5, and 74.06 in test III. Based on the diary notes, observation sheet, and interview sheet, it was found that teaching-learning process ran well, students were active, enthusiastic, and interested in writing. The research showed that the Mind Mapping Technique significantly improved students’ writing achievement in descriptive text.

This study focuses on improving students’ achievement in writing News Item text through Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was the grade X students of SMA Mitra Inalum. Twenty four students were taken as the sample. The research was conducted in two cycles. First cycle was conducted in four meetings. The second cycle was conducted in two meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (writing test) and qualitative data (observation sheet, diary note, and questionnaire sheet). Based on the data analysis, students’ score kept improving in every test. The mean of the students’ score in the first competence test was 38.4, in the second competence test was 75.4 and in the third competence test was 81.9. The result showed that Cooperative Integrated and Reading Composition (CIRC) technique improved students’ achievement in writing news item text.

This study presents a research report on using simulation method to improve the activity and the students’ learning result improving students’ Learning results on PKn. The objective was to find out whether the activity and the students’ learning result improved when they are taught by using Video. It was conducted using classroom action research method. The subject of the study was the Grade IV students of SDN 187/IV Kota Jambi which is located on Jln. Adi Sucipto RT 05 Kecamatan Jambi Selatan, and the number of the students were 9 persons. The instruments used were test as quantitative data and observation, interview, and questionnaire were used as qualitative data. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the on first cycle was 74.11 and the mean on cycle two was 78.00 and the mean of the third cycle was 84.7. Then it can be concluded that the use of simulation as a learning method can improve the students’ activity and students’ learning result. This study was conducted as an attempt to improve students’ writing achievement in a procedure text by using Still Pictures. The method of the study was Classroom Action Research with two cycles and six meetings. The subject of the study was the students of Grade VII students’ MTs. S. Syahbuddin Mustafa Nauli. The research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consists of three meetings. The instruments for collecting data were taken from writing tests as quantitative data. The result shows the improvement of the students’ score from orientation test to Cycles I and II tests. The mean of the students’ score for orientation test as Test I was 50.41, Cycle I test was 66.25, and Cycle II test was 85.41. The total percentage of the improvement from Orientation test to Cycles I and II tests was 99.2 %. It can be concluded that the use of Still Pictures improves students’ achievement in writing a procedure text. The qualitative data taken from Observation Sheet and Diary Notes show that the students’ were enthusiastic and attracted in writing a procedure text because the Still Pictures encourage their creativities and ideas to write better. For English teachers, it is suggested to use Still Pictures as one alternative media of teaching writing a procedure text.

AbstractThe objectives of this study were to develop students’ speaking skills using Talking Chips technique and also to investigate the students’ interest in the use of Talking Chips technique inEFL class. This research was a two-cycled action research conducted in SMK PSKD 1 Jakarta. The subject of this study was the tenth graders of Accounting Class 1 consisting of 10participants from SMK 1 PSKD. The quantitative data, collected using tests, were analyzed by using independent and paired sample t-test on SPSS version 17 program. The qualitative data collected through interview, questionnaire, and observation techniques and were analyzed descriptively. The result indicated that there was significant improvement of students’ scores where the mean of students’ pre-test scores was 55.00. It increased 59.60 in post-test I and 73.40 in post-test II. Based on the result, it was concluded that through implementation of Talking Chips technique students’ speaking skills could improve.   Keywords: talking chips, speaking skills, classroom action research

This study attempted to improve students’ writing descriptive textby using Realia Strateg. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII SMP NEGERI 1 SALAPIAN which consisted of 30 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and every cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments for collecting the data were quantitative data (Writing Test) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet). Based on Writing scores, students’ score kept improving in every evaluation. In the test I the mean was 70,36, in the test II the mean was 86.13 . Based on observation sheet and questionnaire, it was found that teaching-learning process ran well. Students were active, enthusiastic, and interested in writing descriptive text. The result of the research showed that applying possible sentence strategy significantly improved students’ writing achievement.
