This research entitled “The Personality of the Main Character as Reflected in Paulo Coelho’s The Devil and Miss Prym” is intended to find out the personality of the main character and factors that influence the personality of the main character. This research uses descriptive qualitative method since the researcher does not apply any quantitative analysis or statistical procedures. The researcher uses the novel entitled The Devil and Miss Prym as the data source of the research. The methods used in collecting the data are observation and documentation. In observation method, the researcher reads the chosen object critically, and then identifies the psychological conflicts. After reading and identifying, the researcher collects and writes all data supporting the research. While in the documentation method, the researcher uses some related books and other documents collected from internet to support this research. In analyzing the data, the researcher applies descriptive qualitative method. He uses the descriptive qualitative method to collect the data and analyzes it by using Sigmund Freud’s personality theory. The result shows that the personality of the main character is influenced by internal and external factors. The internal factor consists of heredity features relating to physic, psychological features relating to physical state, and the heredity features of the character. The external factor consists of some part of life like family, environment, and job.

Novel works usually raise various phenomena that occur in the community. These interesting works can influence the soul of the reader so that they can dive in and appear to be present in the story. In literary psychology,novel is Laila Majnun's very appropriate to study because it can see the psychological phenomenon experienced by the main character of the story, Layla and Majnun. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Representation of human behavior seen through the figures Majnun, Layla, and Syed Omri who experienced chronic frustration, so that ended in death.

This study is entitled “Characterization and Three Dimensions of the Main Character in Looking For Alaska”. This study is concerned with the method of the characterization based on the three dimensions of the main character and intrinsic elements in the novel. The main purpose of this study is to find out how the author presents the main character in terms of the physiological, psychological, and sociological dimensions. This study was based on library research and used documentation method in collecting data. Then the data obtained were analyzed descriptively using descriptive qualitative method. Some theories of characterization were used such as the theory of characterization proposed by Kenney (1966), the theory of character dimensions by Egri (1960). The data source of this study is a novel entitled Looking For Alaska by John Green (2011). The analysis started with the overview of the biography of John Green and that was followed by the synopsis of the novel, and the data was categorized based on the theories. Based on Kenney’s theory, the main character is shaped through the mixing method of the characterization. In addition, based on Egri’s theory, there are three character dimensions (physiological, psychological, and sociological) involved in the shaping and presentation of the main character.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini meneliti tentang ungkapan emosi cinta serta faktor cinta pada tokoh utama pada komik AnoHana volume 1 dan 2 karya Mari Okada. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan psikolinguistik. Sedangkan metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data yang diambil ungkapan emosi cinta serta faktor penyebab cinta pada tokoh utama komik AnoHana volume 1 dan 2 karya Mari Okada. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan seperti berikut : pertama ungkapan emosi cinta dalam manga AnoHana volume 1 dan 2 terdiri dari beberapa jenis, yaitu : 1) penerimaan, terdapat 3 data; 2) persahabatan, terdapat 7 data; 3) kepercayaan, terdapat 4 data; 4) kebaikan hati, terdapat 5 data; 5) rasa dekat, terdapat 1 data; 6) kasih, terdapat 4 data. Kedua ungkapan emosi cinta tidak hanya diungkapkan karena tindakan tokoh utama sendiri, tetapi juga karena ucapan dan tindakan dari tokoh lain yang dapat membuat ungkapan emosi cinta muncul. Ketiga Faktor penyebab cinta dalam manga AnoHana volume 1 dan 2 terdiri dari beberapa faktor, yaitu : 1) kedekatan, terdapat 9 data; 2) karakter, terdapat 9 data; 3) saling suka, terdapat 6 data; 4) momen, terdapat 12 data.Kata Kunci : Psikolinguistik, Ungkapan Emosi Cinta, Faktor Penyebab Cinta. Abstract: This research will be discussing about the expression of love emotions and the love factor of the main character in the comics AnoHana volumes 1 and 2 by Mari Okada. The approach used in this research is the psycholinguistic approach. While the method used is descriptive qualitative method. The data source is taken from the expression of emotion of love and the factors that cause love in the main character AnoHana comics volume 1 and 2 by Mari Okada. This research produces findings such as the following: first the expression of emotion of love in the AnoHana manga volumes 1 and 2 consists of several types, namely: 1) acceptance, there are 3 data; 2) friendship, there are 7 data; 3) trust, there are 4 data; 4) kindness, there are 5 data; 5) feeling close, there is 1 data; 6) love, there are 4 data. Both expressions of the emotions of love are not only expressed because of the actions of the main character himself, but also because of the words and actions of other characters who can make the expression of emotion of love emerge. The three factors causing love in AnoHana manga volumes 1 and 2 consist of several factors, namely: 1) closeness, there are 9 data; 2) characters, there are 9 data; 3) like each other, there are 6 data; 4) moments, there are 12 data.Keywords: Psycholinguistics, Expressions of Love Emotions, Factors Causing Love.

This study aims to describe kinds and forms of expressive speech act in Hannah Montana Session 1. It belongs to descriptive qualitative method. The research object was expressive speech act. The data source was utterances which contain expressive speech acts in the film Hannah Montana Session 1. The researcher used observation method and noting technique in collecting the data. In analyzing the data, descriptive qualitative method was used. The research findings show that there are ten kinds of expressive speech act found in Hannah Montana Session 1, namely expressing apology, expressing thanks, expressing sympathy, expressing attitudes, expressing greeting, expressing wishes, expressing joy, expressing pain, expressing likes, and expressing dislikes. The forms of expressive speech act are direct literal expressive speech act, direct non-literal expressive speech act, indirect literal expressive speech act, and indirect non-literal expressive speech act.

The purpose of this research is to discribe the characterization of the main characters, the plot in the film with a tittle Forget Me Not, and to determine a relationship between those two elements. Author used structuralism theory to analyze characterization of main character, plot, and the relation between those two elements. Furthermore, the analysis arranged using descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research is a film with a tittle Forget Me Not, and using dialog and scene in these film to analyze it. Referring and taking notes is a method to collecting data and using structural and narrative method to analyze the data. Based on the analysis, the result of this research are the main character in the film Forget Me Not is Oribe Azusa and Hayama Takashi. Oribe Azusa has a kind, mysterious and resign characterization. Meanwhile Hayama Takashi has a faithful and liar characterization. The plot in these film is a progressive plot. And the characterization of the main character and the plot in a film called Forget Me Not is interrelated each other until the story in these film can go trough to the final stage.

The aims of this research is to understand the responsibility of Mickey Haller as a lawyer. By using descriptive qualitative method, the writer will describes all things in the movie itself. The data were collected from some sources, such as books in library of Senayan ,Library of STIBA Nusa Mandiri, Google books and Website. The writer found the result of analysis about an interesting character from Mickey Haller as main character. Mickey Haller is a lawyer with high responsibility in his work. It makes him never give up on solving the case at hand. Mickey Haller is known as a lawyer who can acquit his clients from criminal penalties although most of his clients are criminal such bikers, con artist, drunk drivers, and drug dealers. Besides Mickey Haller was responsible for the work, he is also responsible for the safety of his family. He protects his children and ex-wife of the evil people who do not like him. Hedonism is a view of life in philosophy that seeks to avoid pain and make pleasure as the main goal in life. People who embrace hedonism tend to over-pursue pleasure. The hedonism lifestyle is mostly carried out by 18th century people especially the nobles who live in high culture. They are as close to hedonism as they are in the Persuasion novel by Jane Austen. Sir Walter Elliot the main character is a nobleman who did a lot of hedonism. Hedonism which is seen as too glorifying personal pleasure to ignore others. The purpose of this study was to find out the types of hedonism done by Sir Walter Elliot in Persuasion. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because all data are in the form of sentences. The researcher uses a philosophical approach and analyzes data using Weijers' theory as the main theory. The results of this study found that Sir Walter Elliot performed two types of hedonism, namely aesthetic hedonism and selfish hedonism.

<p>Despite Sasak community in five sub-districts of North Lombok uses the same dialect, namely kuto-Kute Dialect (BSDK), the people within those sub-districts demonstrate different lexicals to express the same meaning. The purpose of this study is to describe the lexicals variations in Kuto-Kute Dialect used by the community in North Lombok. This study used a descriptive-qualitative method. The data was taken by using observation and conversational method. Observation method was applied by observing the language used by communities within the observation spots in the village, while conversational method was used by having conversations with the informants from the observed villages. The data was analysed by using referential identity and distributional methods. The result of the analysis showed that Sasak Kuto-Kute dialect in certain gloss has lexical variations they are glosses having two lexical variation and three lexical variations.</p>

<p class="05IsiAbstrak">The aims of the article are to find out: 1) kinds of illocutionary acts which are produced by the main characters in “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie, and 2) the most dominant illocutionary acts.  In analyzing the data, the authors used descriptive qualitative method.  The object of this study was main character’s dialogue of “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie.  The authors did these following steps: watched the movie, found the transcript, identified the dialogues of main character, classified them using Searle’s theory, and interpreted the meaning of utterances.  Here are 52 utterances with illocutionary acts. The results were: 1) Representative (assertive) (65%), 2) Directive (19%), 3) Expressive (8%), 4) Commissive (6%), and 5) Declarative (2%) in scale of 100%. Representative (assertive) was the most dominant. This study can be a reference for learning pragmatics, especially illocutionary acts. The teachers can also use movie as speech acts teaching media.</p>
