From a number of instructional materials or textbooks of English language, it seems that improvements still need to be made, especially related to the pragmatic elements contained in the textbook. Teaching materials that present a pragmatic approach are still very limited. This study aims to find out about the forms of English language teaching materials and develop them with a pragmatic approach in order to improve the quality of learning. The research method used is research and development. Data collection techniques used in this study through observation, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires. Research development procedures include information gathering, planning, developing initial product forms (product design), field testing, and product revisions. Analysis of the data used is qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results of this study in the form of findings about the form of cross-interest program teaching materials for high school students tend to use the Englis To Pathway Specialization Program written by M. Sudarwati and Eudia Grace published Erlangga Publishers. The results of the development of English teaching materials in the cross-interest class X program with the pragmatic approach emphasize on systematic: (a) basic competence, (b) social function, teaching and learning activities, (c) topic, (d) linguistic element, (e) definition, (f) exercise / assignment, and (g) pragmatics corner.Development of English language teaching materials is dynamic. Therefore, it requires further research in the field of English for specific purposes, especially teaching materials for cross-interest programs for science and social studies programs in high school.

This is a literature study on how to improve the quality of English language teaching and learning. Teaching, in general, can give one daily an unbelievable roller coaster ride from the depths of total frustration to the heights of incredible rewards. Teaching is a profession that is given little respect and lots of criticism. English language teaching and learning is an educational process. It requires great preparation and implementation to maintain the interaction between teacher and students. Apart from this, the teacher needs to be skillful in identifying the needs that should be fulfilled and the objectives which should be achieved. Teacher perspective needs to orient itself to the teaching and learning activities that cover selection on the instructional materials being inline with the instructional objectives, approaches, methods, techniques, and suitable tasks and exercises. The study indicates that good English teaching and learning is tied not only to the subject matter in hand but also to the perspective of teaching that upholds the learner-oriented standpoint. It is strongly suggested that English language teaching and learning needs to do more on psycho-motoric domains, in the sense that it encourages students to do more practice in their learning. This is a literature study on how to improve the quality of English language teaching and learning. English Language Teaching (ELT) textbooks serve as the basis for many language inputs that learners receive and language practices that occur in the classroom. They may provide the basis for ideas and instructional activities as well as giving teachers rationales for what they do. The objective of this analysis is to know about how much a textbook meets the requirements of a good EFL textbook. The evaluation checklist used in this paper is the modification of Cunningsworth’s (1995) checklist developed by Al-sowat (2012). There are nine issues of textbook evaluating in this checklist: (1) layout and physical appearance; (2) content; (3) objectives; (4) language type; (5) skills; (6) activities and tasks; (7) structure and vocabulary; (8) culture values; and (9) teacher's needs.

This paper is a discussion of the potential of using specific drama techniques during English lessons at a Japanese private senior high school. The techniques in focus are process drama and specifically teacher in role (TiR). TiR is a specific technique that is often used in the broader area of process drama. Process drama concerns itself more with the experiential rather than the performance aspect of drama. In it, a teacher, or facilitator, goes into role with the participants in the co-construction of extended role-plays and dramas. Such methods have been used in English language teaching by many practitioners. The methods are discussed in this paper, with the focus on their suitability for teaching in a Japanese senior high school.

The application of faded examples techniques to improve student’s problem solving ability on trigonometry at high school level AbstractThis study was aimed to produce and describe the quality of the developed Trigonometric Senior High School Science Program Enrichment’s Instructional Materials using Faded-Examples Techniques to Improve Problem Solving Ability. The quality of the developed teaching materials include all aspects of validity, effectiveness, and practicality. This was a developmental research used three phases Plomp’s model which consists of: (1) preliminary studies which involved the needs and context analysis, (2) product design development, and (3) the evaluation process of product validation and implementation. The development process involves two experts as validator, one teacher, and 50 students (X pengayaan 1 and X pengayaan 2). The study results the trigonometric enrichment’s teaching materials which consists of the teacher’s textbook and the student’s textbook that was developed using the faded-examples technique. This technique based on The Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) instructional design. The results of the study showed that the quality of the developed trigonometric enrichment’s teaching materials is “very good” according to lecturer validation and “practical” according to the evaluation from the teachers and students. The results of the learning showed that 100% of the students passed the minimum grade criteria of problem solving skills.

This article is devoted to the analysis of the current state of level teaching of the English language in schools in Kazakhstan. The introduction of the Common European Framework of References for Languages in the process of foreign language education in Kazakhstan entailed significant changes that made it possible to im-prove the quality of teaching English, bring it closer to international standards, and ensure its competitiveness at the global level. However, research has shown that in order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to take into account the awareness and opinion of teachers. This article is an exploratory study examining the application of CEFR in the English language teaching system in general education schools in Kazakhstan, with emphasis on the knowledge and opinions of teachers. The article also provides a brief overview of world experience in the practical application of the principles of CEFR in teaching English. This study used a survey for English teachers as the primary data collection method. The results of the study showed that there are difficulties at the school level that affect the final result of proficiency in English language teaching. Nevertheless, thanks to the adopted language policy, the country is undergoing a progressive development of foreign language ed-ucation and purposeful work is being carried out to ensure the quality of teaching English, which is reflected in almost all program documents for the development of education.
