The 10th annual International Conference of Students of Systematic Musicology (SysMus) took place on September 13–15, 2017, at Queen Mary University of London (UoL). The SysMus series has established itself as an international, student-run conference series aimed at introducing graduate students to networking and discussing their work in an academic conference environment. The term “Systematic Musicology,” first coined by Guido Adler (1885), nowadays covers a wide range of systematic or empirical approaches to theoretical, psychological, neuroscientific, ethnographic, and computational methodologies in music research. Presentations for SysMus17 focused on three central topics in relation to music: cognition and neuroscience, computation, and health and well-being. Each of these topics was the subject of workshops as well as keynotes by Prof. Lauren Stewart (Goldsmiths University of London and Music in the Brain Centre, Aarhus University), Prof. Elaine Chew and Dr. Marcus Pearce (both Queen Mary UoL), Dr. Daniel Müllensiefen (Goldsmiths UoL), and Prof. Aaron Williamon (Royal College of Music). Further presentations addressed issues relating to harmony and rhythm, musicians and performance, music and emotion, and sociology of music. This year’s conference brought together early-career researchers from the fields of musicology, psychology, and medicine, allowing them to socialize, share their work, and gain insight into interdisciplinary approaches to their subjects. SysMus17 was organized by students at Queen Mary’s Music Cognition Lab and was particularly marked by the series’ 10th anniversary, the live streaming of all presentations via social media, and a carbon-offsetting Green Initiative. The proceedings of SysMus17 will be available on demand from the conference website ( www.sysmus17.qmul.ac.uk ) and the videos will be made available for public access.

The Sixteenth Biennial International Conference on Baroque Music (ICBM) was held at the beautiful Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Professor Thomas Hochradner and his effective team of assistants, approximately 250 participants could choose from papers and lecture-recitals that covered a wide spectrum of topics and methodologies. These included new research on notable composers, geographical influences upon musical genres and interdisciplinary approaches. The organizers also offered guided tours on one of the afternoons, which allowed participants to trace the music of the city, learn about the autographs vault of the Mozarteum, listen to the organs at the Metropolitan Church or explore the cathedral quarters (Domquartier).

Clues to the chronology of Old Germanic loans in Romanian and in other South-East European languagesThe present article is directly based on the handout of the talk this author gave at the International Conference on Balkan Linguistics (6-7 May, 2013, Toruń, Nicolaus Copernicus University); therefore the subchapters and paragraphs observe the arrangement of the materials included in that handout. The first part contains a chronological table that reflects mainstream archaeological-historical information regarding the history of military-political actions and achievements of the Old Germanic populations in south-east Europe between the 3rd century BC and the 6th century of our era. Then concrete textual proofs follow, which are chronologically arranged and briefly commented upon. Finally, the author proposes interdisciplinary approaches based mainly on reference of linguistic features to historical stages and evolutions. W dalszej części przytoczono i krótko skomentowano uporządkowane chronologicznie konkretne dowody językowe. Na końcu znajduje się propozycja interdyscyplinarnego podejścia do tematu, oparta głównie na odniesieniu cech językowych do odpowiednich etapów historii i ewolucji językowej.

The 4th International Conference on Biosciences (The 4th ICoBio) https://biologi.ipb.ac.id/web/en/page/icobio/ Introduction of the 4th ICoBio 2021 The International Conference on Biosciences (ICoBio) is a biennial international conference organized by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, IPB University, Indonesia, since 2015. For this year, the 4th ICoBio 2021 was held in conjunction with the 17th National Congress of the Indonesian Biological Society (PBI), and it also collaborated with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. The conference was held on 10-12th August 2021. This conference was designed to facilitate academicians, researchers, students, and practitioners related to the field of biosciences worldwide to gather and share information, ideas, knowledge, and research results as well as to strengthen research network and collaboration in a fruitful scientific environment. This year’s conference was held virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in several areas around the world that limited the travelling permit issue. It is beyond doubt that biosciences play a central role in every aspect of life. Bioscience and innovations are closely related with various inter and trans-disciplinary fields, leading to practical solutions which may contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) strategic issues occurring in the disruptive era of industrial revolutions 4.0. Indeed, today we are facing serious issues including food and feed security, energy scarcity, healthcare issues, global warming, and others. Integration of biological fields with engineering, information technology, economy, and social sciences may serve as potential strategies to combat such challenging issues. Therefore, this kind of innovation and finding urgently needs to be informed to the science society this year. The 4th ICoBio 2021 was taking the theme “Bioscience Innovations for Sustainable Development Goals”. This conference was intended to gain insight into current trends in research and development related to biology, such as interdisciplinary approaches that are important for understanding biology and its applications. Research topics in this conference were divided into five main groups focusing on (1) Biodiversity, Conservation Biology and Climate Change; (2) Bioprospecting, Health Issues, and Industrial Biology; (3) Omics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology; (4) Techno-biology and Bioengineering; and (5) Smart and Sustainable Agro-maritime. The 4th ICoBio 2021 also served as a place for realizing existing collaboration between the Department of Biology, IPB University with its national and international partners, such as Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia, and Kasetsart University, Thailand, Tottori University, Japan, and also strengthening collaboration with University of Missouri, Colombia, USA; and Iowa State University, USA. Abstract Purpose: This article addresses several intervention approaches that aim to improve life for individuals with severe aphasia. Because severe aphasia significantly compromises language, often for the long term, recommended approaches focus on additional domains that affect quality of life. Treatments are discussed that involve increasing participation in personally relevant life situations, enhancing environmental support for communication and participation, and improving communicative confidence. Methods: Interventions that have been suggested in the aphasia literature as particularly appropriate for people with severe aphasia include training in total communication, training of communication partners, and activity specific training. Conclusion: Several intervention approaches can be implemented to enhance life with severe aphasia.
