AbstractProblem-based learning as a teaching tool is now used globally in many areas of higher education. It provides an opportunity for students to explore technical problems from a system-level perspective and to be self-directed life-long learner which is mandatory for equipping engineering students with the skill and knowledge. This paper presents a case study illustrating the effectiveness of implemented Problem-based learning (PBL) during five semesters in the undergraduate programs of Textile Engineering in Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). An assessment has been done on the basis of feedback from the students as well as their employers by conducting an empirical survey for the evaluation of PBL impact to enhance the student's competencies. The Evaluations indicate that students have achieved remarkable competencies through PBL practices which helped them to be competent in their professional life.

Abstract The present paper presents the conclusions related to the approaches in which the online learning on the topic of technical education has influenced the quality of the way the information is conveyed. The paper presents a case study on a group of 10 students from each specialization of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology within the “George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Târgu Mureș, approximately 10 months after the teaching activities have taken place exclusively online. The conclusions refer to a number of rules specific to technical communication and how they are used by the facilitators, namely by the teachers. The purpose of the paper is to identify the constraints related to the online environment, in the event that this system is practical and useful to future engineers as well

In this paper, we argue that it is essential to pay attention to the engineering students’ use of sound methodologies in approaching engineering problems. There are serious challenges created from surfacelearning attitudes that undermine foundational, conceptual understanding and basic methods to solve technical problems. Moreover, such attitudes carry over to how students approach the complexity and human aspect of engineering problems. Senior undergraduate energy systems courses were redesigned to develop students’ inquiry and problem solving skills. Data from a post-course survey, completed by 58 senior engineering students, were analyzed using a thematic analysis and basic categorization. Findings suggest that inquiry learning (IL) and problem based learning (PBL) methods offer much value in the students’ development of researchand analytic skills. As well, students gained a deeper appreciation of complexity and the ethical issues in energy system challenges, which may have some impact on their assumed responsibility as engineers - during the process and in the aimed outcomes of their problem solving tasks. We reflect on the findings to propose how IL and PBL might be effectively designed and implemented for engineering students engaged in system level analyses.

One of phenomena that occur in the educational world is the issue of discrepancies that occur between theory the pre-service teacher learned in college with implementation when they should teach in thereal fields (schools). Problem Based Learning (PBL) becomes one of the efforts to bridge the existing problems. This research is conducted to find out the extend of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Micro Teaching course since the course must be accomplished by students before carrying out practical activities in the real field in the school at teaching training program. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. And in this research the writer uses case study as a research design to find out the purpose of the research. The participants of the the research are 8 students from a class of micro teaching course in English Department of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. In this paper, The Students as the Pre Service Teacher(s) are coded PST(s). The writer uses observation as the instruments of the research. Theory of Miles and Huberman are used to collect data from observation. Regarding to the discussion above, the four aspects of competences of effective teacher are shown in the teaching practice done by the students of Micro teaching course that apply Problem Based Learning (PBL). The majority results of the observation explain that applying Problem Based Learning in Micro Teaching course develops pre-service teachers competence in their teaching in classroom. This research shows pre-service teachers can integrate their competences and create good performance in their teaching practice.

Abstract Over the years, failures induced by an electrostatic discharge (ESD) have become a major concern for semiconductor manufacturers and electronic equipment makers. The ESD events that cause destructive failures have been studied extensively [1, 2]. However, not all ESD events cause permanent damage. Some events lead to recoverable failures that disrupt system functionality only temporarily (e.g. reboot, lockup, and loss of data). These recoverable failures are not as well understood as the ones causing permanent damage and tend to be ignored in the ESD literature [3, 4]. This paper analyzes and characterizes how these recoverable failures affect computer systems. An experimental methodology is developed to characterize the sensitivity of motherboards to ESD by simulating the systemlevel ESD events induced by computer users. The manuscript presents a case study where this methodology was used to evaluate the robustness of desktop computers to ESD. The method helped isolate several weak nets contributing to the failures and identified a design improvement. The result was that the robustness of the systems improved by a factor of 2.

The Scandal in Academia [32] [33] [34] [35] is an extended fictional case-study intended for use as a teaching and discussion aid for educational practitioners looking to introduce elements of computer ethics into their curricula. Inspired by Epstein [17] [18] it is a full-cycle scenario involving many individuals which touches upon the complexity and interrelations of modern computer ethics. It has been trailed and evaluated as a teaching tool by the authors [36] and with multiple groups since then. However its utility as a general resource is limited without the academic context that supports deeper investigation of the material. It is to address this issue that the authors offer this commentary on the Scandal, with a focus on the ninth and tenth newspaper items presented within. Specifically these are Culture of Fear and Nepotism at University and Witch-Hunts at the University - IT Crackdown Causes Criticisms.
