Abstract The energy transformations involved in the operation of the pumping installations are carried out by pumping aggregates consisting of an electric motor and a pump. In order to provide a full adaptation to the users’ variable demands, variable speed motor driven pumps are used on networks (such motors being equipped with frequency converters). The paper presents a method for determining the global efficiency of a frequency converter-asynchronous motor-pump group. The method has been implemented at the Chiriţa Pumping Station, main facility within the Iasi City water supply system.

The need to develop methodological approaches for an analysis of the state, as well as the prospects for the development, of water supply systems in small towns is due to a comprehensive assessment of problems and the need to solve problems related to the optimization of current costs and investments. The main stages of research are considered, the result of which is the development of measures to optimize and intensify water supply systems. Methodological approaches are proposed that make it possible to obtain mathematical models adequate to the existing hydraulics of the system to the maximum possible extent: the water supply network-pumping stations-water wells. The studies are based on the use of modern information technologies for the collection of data and their processing, as well as the development of technical solutions.

Criteria for choosing agents based on organophosphonats for water treatment in the closed industrial water supply systems have been proposed. A method for determination of the agents optimal doze for decreasing of the mineral sediments quantity in different composition water has been developed. Economic and ecological expedience of the above said agents’ application in industrial water supply has been shown.

Abstract. The goal of this research is the derivation of the method for evaluation of efficiency improvement potential for public water supply systems with a focus on centrifugal network pumps. The efficiency of proportional pressure control usage has been analyzed for variable speed pumps. It has been done if proportional pressure control is used in comparison with constant pressure control mode. For this reason, energy calculation analyses have been realized for variable speed centrifugal pumps, and the theoretical tool of estimation of the efficiency improvement potential for public water supply systems has been derived. The conclusions are as follows: (1) it has been found that 1110 MWh of annually consumed electrical energy can be saved up, if the control mode of variable speed network pumps will be changed from constant pressure to proportional pressure control mode with the deviation of 20% from head value of duty point at zero flow; (2) about 13 MWh of annually consumed electrical energy can be saved up, if the proportional pressure control mode with the deviation of 15% will be changed to the deviation of 20%; (3) totally about 1123 MWh or 1.12 GWh (14% of the annually consumed electrical energy by variable speed network pumps) can be saved up in small public water supply systems in Latvia.

Results of ichthyologic research in the Gorky and Cheboksary reservoirs upstream and downstream technological zones, as well as at the Nizhny Novgorod hydro power station facilities have been presented. The research has been carried out with the use of advanced standard ichthyologic approaches and methods. According to outcomes of larvae and baby fishes check counting in water receiving windows, technological water supply systems and the power station tail race the total number of the aquatic biological resources species passing through the systems has been stated. An experiment on determination of baby fishes’ survival rate after passing the work chambers and water transporting ducts has been conducted to estimate hydro mechanisms’ mechanical and physical impact upon lethality degree. On the basis of the data obtained the measure of natural harm to aquatic biological resources incurred by operation of power station mechanisms and technological water supply system, as well as in the process of hydroelectric units modernization has been determined. Various options of compensation measures aimed at balancing the damage incurred have been listed. Proposals on composition and application of the set of efficient protective/preventive measures to mitigate annual aquatic biological resources losses caused by the Nizhy Novgorod hydro power station hydro power units and water supply system.
