The variance of transport modes may affect decision of mode choices for user to travel between the cities. Differences of characteristic transport modes add some value for the user in mode choices. Banda Aceh as a capital city of Aceh became the vital point as the center activities of Aceh province. Distibution of commodites and services is linked between Banda Aceh and the other cities in Aceh province, an example  with Tapaktuan which in the between south-west road of Aceh province as distibution of commodites and services from and towards Banda Aceh. The purposes of this study aim for the analysis of needs each public transport modes through the development model  of transport mode choices minibus with ac and minibus non ac. Data for this study collected by survey and questionnaires. Questionnaires designed with stated preference method. Development of model performed with software named SPSS 25 as each of transportation mode used as a comparison (base outcome). Model-based discrete choice model analyzed by binomial logit models approach. The results of the surveys shown the percentage modes choice for minibus ac = 62,5% or 275 respondents and minibus non ac = 37,5% or 165 respondents. The probability value based by respondent’s demographic shown P(minibus ac) = 66,9% and P(minibus non ac) = 33,1%, The probability value based by travel’s attribute shown P(minibus ac) = 57,1% and P(minibus non ac) = 42,9%.

Jakarta Light Rail Transit (Jakarta LRT) has been planned to be built as one of mass rail-based public transportation system in DKI Jakarta. The objective of this paper is to obtain a mode choice models that can explain the probability of choosing Jakarta LRT, and to estimate the sensitivity of mode choice if the attribute changes. Analysis of the research conducted by using discrete choice models approach to the behavior of individuals. Choice modes were observed between 1) Jakarta LRT and TransJakarta Bus, 2) Jakarta LRT and KRL-Commuter Jabodetabek. Mode choice model used is the Binomial Logit Model. The research data obtained through Stated Preference (SP) techniques. The model using the attribute influences such as tariff, travel time, headway and walking time. The models obtained are reliable and validated. Based on the results of the analysis shows that the most sensitive attributes affect the mode choice model is the tariff.

Most Colombian freight is transported on roads with barely acceptable conditions, and although there is a speculation about the need for a railway for freight transportation, there is not a study in Colombia showing the variables that influence the modal choice by the companies that generate freight transportation. This article presents the calculation of demand for a hypothetical railway through a discrete choice model. It begins with a qualitative research through focus group techniques to identify the variables that influence the choice of persons responsible for the transportation of large commercial companies in Antioquia (Colombia). The influential variables in the election were the cost and service frequency, and these variables were used to apply a Stated Preference (SP) and Revealed Preference (RP) survey, then to calibrate a Multinomial Logit Model (MNL), and to estimate the influence of each of them. We show that the probability of railway choice by the studied companies varies between 67% and 93%, depending on differences in these variables.

Purpose This paper aims to discuss the link between socio-economic characteristics of house buyers and their housing location choices. The major objective of the study is an examination of the role of household socio-economic characteristics. The research addresses the importance of previous residence location and latent housing motives for intra-urban housing mobility. Design/methodology/approach The research examines housing preferences structure and analyzes housing location choices in the city of Krakow (Poland) using discrete choice model (conditional logit model). The research is based on stated preference data from Krakow. Findings The results of this study suggest that demand for housing alternatives is negatively linked to the distance from current residence. Other factors stay equal, the further the distance, the less likely a household is willing to choose a location within the metropolitan area. The study indicates that housing motives can help explain housing location decisions. Practical implications The paper provides an empirical assessment of housing decisions in Krakow, one of the major metropolitan areas in Poland. Originality/value The paper contributes to a better understanding of the nature of housing decision and housing preferences in emerging markets in Central and Eastern Europe. As a result, presented research helps to fill the gap in housing market and urban economics literature.

One proposed means of increasing use of both transit and bicycles is to replace long automobile trips with “bike and ride” trips. In this study, a stated-preference survey was conducted using hypothetical scenarios within which respondents ranked their preferences for making a work trip by automobile only, park and ride, or bike and ride. The survey addressed numerous potential factors that might influence this choice, including three policy variables that were systematically varied in the scenarios: on-street bicycle facility type, bicycle parking facility type, and bicycle access distance to transit. The survey data are summarized and used to estimate discrete choice models. A nested logit choice model was developed as the preferred model. From this model, inferences are drawn about many factors. Conclusions are drawn about the three main policy variables. In short, the results support the notion that bicycle lockers are the preferred parking facility to increase bike and ride use. The results also indicate that bike lanes are superior to wide curb lanes as an incentive for casual and inexperienced cyclists, but that bike lanes and wide curb lanes are an identical incentive for experienced cyclists.

This study examines the understanding of the concept of diversity (pluralism and multiculturalism) in the city of Banda Aceh; the capital city of Aceh Province which is now more than 800 years old. Can the city be classified as a diversity-friendly city as it is embedded for Pematang Siantar, Manado, Kupang, or Bali, which are among the most diversity friendly regions and are tolerant to other religions and beliefs? This study adopts socio-qualitative with an ethnographic approach to present arguments about the diversity in the city of Banda Aceh. The analytical instrument seeks to empathize with Banda Aceh's value of inductivity, as well as its "particularistic" dimension so that it can be understood emphatically. This article seeks to test the hypothesis of whether or not Banda Aceh City government has sufficiently promoted the culture of minority groups, not only protecting them from violence and granting the right to live and do business. By using observation and in-depth interview techniques, this paper also shows the enigmatic side of minority groups, including the exclusion of “subaltern” groups: the weakest minority and can be called the minority of the minorities. The most apparant of this minority group is the Chinese gets a wider portion of the discussion, compared to other minorities. This is because of the complexity that this community enjoys which shapes their lives with other minority groups and builds the concept of encounters with local communities in Banda Aceh. The diversity values of this city experienced a dynamic change. In the last fifteen years, the diversity was best promoted in the city of Banda Aceh during the governance period of Mawardy Nurdin who served as mayor of Banda Aceh from 2007-2014.

Indonesia, a country of more than 17,000 islands, is exposed to many hazards. A magnitude 9.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, on December 26, 2004. It triggered a series of tsunami waves that spread across the Indian Ocean causing damage in 11 countries. Banda Aceh, the capital city of Aceh Province, was among the most damaged. More than 31,000 people were killed. At the time, there were no early warning systems nor evacuation buildings that could provide safe refuge for residents. Since then, four tsunami evacuation buildings (TEBs) have been constructed in the Meuraxa subdistrict of Banda Aceh. Based on analysis of evacuation routes and travel times, the capacity of existing TEBs is examined. Existing TEBs would not be able to shelter all of the at-risk population. In this study, additional buildings and locations for TEBs are proposed and residents are assigned to the closest TEBs. While TEBs may be part of a larger system of tsunami mitigation efforts, other strategies and approaches need to be considered. In addition to TEBs, robust detection, warning and alert systems, land use planning, training, exercises, and other preparedness strategies are essential to tsunami risk reduction.

Transportation costs in Jakarta reach 30% of the total income of the community every month while the standard that has been set by World Bank is only 10%. This paper discusses the result of willingness-to-pay study conducted at Sudirman railway station in the downtown of Jakarta with the purpose of reducing transportation cost by implementing the tariff integration system of KRL and Transjakarta. The data was collected by the methods of stated preference survey with commuters as the respondent. The survey was conducted by asking the respondents some questions including respondents’ socio-economic characteristic, travel distance, and travel choice exercise. The existing modes that will be compared are motorcycle and bus (kopaja). Motorcycle is the mode whom commuters mostly use with 62% while kopaja is only 38%. The data was analyzed by using discrete choice model and utility function. Based on the analysis, parameters that influence commuters to shift from existing modes to transjakarta are saving time, saving fare, transportation expenditure, and education level. Moreover, the study found that the cheaper the integration tariff offered, the greater the probability of choosing transjakarta services and the faster the travel time of Transjakarta, the greater the probability of choosing transjakarta. Furthermore, each comparison mode has different tariff preferences on the tariff integration system of Transjakarta and KRL.

The value of travel time becomes an important part of the gains in the assessment of a transport project in terms of economic considerations. In this research, the calculation of the value of travel time for users of private vehicles in Banda Aceh. Purposes of calculating the value of travel time is to vote as a result of a wasted opportunity when used to produce something as a result of traveling purposes. Of the various methods that can be used to determine the value of travel time method selection transport modes (mode choice approach) with a stated preference survey data is either to be used in determining the value of time based on the use of public transport (labi-labi) as the second choice , but taken one more method is the method of income (income approach) as a comparison. As for the results in this study is the comparison of both methods is the method of choice of transport modes (mode choice approach) and method of income (income approach) to obtain the value of travel time for users of private vehicles in the city of Banda Aceh.

For promoting pedestrian mobility, the quality levels of pedestrian paths should be increased. Many researchers suggest methodologies for determining the pedestrian level of service. Among these, some studies consider both paths’ physical characteristics and users’ perception about the walkways. Investigating users’ perceptions represents a good strategy for implementing interventions aimed at increasing the quality of service. The aim is recording pedestrians’ perceptions about the characteristics of the path and detecting the choices they would make in a hypothetical scenario. This work proposes the design of a Stated Preferences survey and the analysis of the preliminary results. A questionnaire was sent out to a sample of 240 pedestrians, prevalently students, about a walkway located in the University Campus of Rende (Italy). The collected data were analyzed by means of a discrete choice model for assessing the importance assigned by pedestrians to each aspect included in the analysis. The results showed that the environment can be considered as the most important aspect for young pedestrians, while the width of the path is not significant. The outcomes also highlighted the aspects it is necessary to change in order to make pedestrian paths increasingly attractive and to encourage users towards active mobility.
