Background: Machine translation has been proved to be a favourable style to execute. However, some research evidence difficulties indicates that its focus is on students' difficulties in academic writing, not on how to overcome them by using machine translation. As a result, this research aims to determine how machine translation might be optimized to help mechanical engineering vocational education students with academic writing difficulties. Methodology: The data was collected from 27 second-semester mechanical engineering vocational education students currently enrolled in an English college course at one of the Universities in Jakarta. Questionnaires online were used to obtain the data, which was analyzed and interpreted descriptively. Questionnaire 1 is used to determine whether or not the subject utilized machine translation and, if so, what type of machine translation they used most frequently. Question 2 was split into two sections. PART A was modified from Xiao & Chen (2015), who described students' challenges with academic writing. It comprises 12 items that were delivered to 27 students via Google Form. Meanwhile, the findings of Lee (2020) have been adapted into PART B. Findings: The result of this study revealed that 27 students of mechanical engineering vocational education in one of the Universities in Jakarta encountered several academic writing difficulties such as grammar (construct grammatically correct sentences, the use of appropriate tenses), expressions (discourse markers, part of speech), and vocabulary (proper vocabulary choices and finding synonyms). Grammar problems are the most challenging, followed by vocabulary and phrases. The optimization of machine translation was also discovered to be the most effective way of overcoming vocabulary issues followed by grammar and expression. Conclusion: Academic writing issues emerge in the classroom. According to the findings, the most difficulties students encountered fell into the grammar aspect. On the other hand, the students considered that machine translation would be the most helpful in overcoming their vocabulary challenges. Although machine translation helps deal with academic writing difficulties like developing vocabulary skills, increasing knowledge of grammar rules in context, and finding more authentic expression, teachers should also guide them in writing academically. Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan peralatan Kesehatan dan Keselamatan Kerja (K3) pada Mata Kuliah Praktikum Proses Produksi mahasiswa Pendidikan Teknik Mesin, Universitas Palangka Raya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik angket dan dokumentasi. Objek penelitian adalah seluruh mahasiswa Pendidikan Teknik Mesin, Universitas Palangka Raya yang memprogramkan Mata Kuliah Praktikum Proses Produksi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 43% mahasiswa menyatakan sangat baik dan 57% mahasiswa menyatakan baik penggunaan peralatan K3 pada Mata Kuliah Praktikum Proses Produksi. Sehingga, disimpulkan bahwa penerapan K3 dapat mendukung pelaksanaan praktikum proses produksi.   Abstract: The purpose of this study was to describe the use of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) equipment in the Production Process Practicum Subject of Mechanical Engineering Education students, Palangka Raya University. This type of research was descriptive. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and documentation. The object of research was all students of Mechanical Engineering Education, Palangkaraya University who programed Production Process Practicum Subjects. The results of this study indicate that 43% of students stated very well and 57% of students stated good use of OHS equipment in the Production Process Practicum Course. Thus, it was concluded that the application of OHS can support the implementation of practicum in the production process.

The requirement for commencing higher education students to apply principles of attribution in their early academic writing frequently creates frustration both for students and academic teaching staff. Teachers often provide information on the necessity of attribution, and considerable detail on the mechanics of how to reference, and express frustration at the failure of some students to demonstrate this in their writing. In turn, many students appear overwhelmed and confused by the expectations placed on them as early academic writers. This paper explores these expectations and questions current assessment practices, advocating a longer period of formative learning before students are required to competently and accurately apply attribution principles and referencing conventions in their writing. Using the threshold concept framework (Meyer & Land, 2005), it suggests viewing attribution as a ‘conceptual gateway’ through which students must pass in becoming academic writers, and explores some implications of this for teaching, learning and assessment.

An innovative capstone design course titled “Design of Fluid Thermal Systems,” involves groups of seniors working on various semester-long design projects. Groups are composed of 3 or 4 members that bid competitively on various projects. Once projects are awarded, freshmen enrolled in the “Introduction to Mechanical Engineering” course are assigned to work with the senior design teams. The senior teams (Engineering Consulting Companies) function like small consulting companies that employ co-operative education students; e.g., the freshmen. In Fall 2006, the Engineering Consulting Companies also worked with students enrolled in a Technical Editing (TE) course—“Writing and Editing in the Professions”—within the English Department. The TE students would be given reports or instructional manuals that the Mechanical Engineering (ME) students had to write as part of their capstone project, and the resulting editing of their documents would be done by these TE students. Subsequently, the ME students were given a survey and asked to comment on this experience. In addition, the TE students were also surveyed and asked to comment as well. It was concluded that the collaboration should continue for at least one more cycle, and that the TE students were more favorably inclined toward this collaboration than were the engineering students.
