Sexual Concordance and Orgasm Consistency in Women

The agreement between psychological and physical sexual arousal is variable among women: some show very high levels of sexual concordance while others demonstrate little or no agreement the emotional and physiological components of arousal (Chivers, Seto, Lalumière, Laan, & , 2010). This mind-body connection has been implicated in female sexual dysfunction, as women sexual dysfunctions tend to show especially low levels of sexual concordance (e.g., Laan, van Driel, & Lunsen, 2008). To date, there has been very little research on how concordance influences individual in sexual outcomes in women without sexual dysfunction. Initial evidence suggested a relationship between sexual concordance and orgasm consistency in healthy women (e.g., Adams, Haynes & Brayner, 1985); however, the few studies examining this relationship present mixed findings. The current study attempts to clarify the relationship between sexual concordance and orgasm consistency and examines sexual assertiveness as a mediator in the predicted concordance-orgasm consistency relationship.

: The prevalence of obesity around the globe is increasing at such an alarming rate that WHO consultation on obesity designated obesity as a major unattended public health problem worldwide. Obesity is associated with a greater risk of excessive fat related metabolic and endocrinal diseases associated with different set of illness and disabilities, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, sleep apnea, arthritis, lung diseases and sexual disorders. Obesity is found to be associated with male and female sexual dysfunctions and several studies have indicated a positive correlation between obesity and sexual dysfunction among both males and females. The relationship between male obesity and sexual dysfunction has been widely discussed, whereas a very little emphasis is laid on relationship between obesity and female sexual dysfunctions. Sexual dysfunctions are common and affects 20-50% of obese women. Particularly, female sexual dysfunction is a multi-factorial problem, including organic and psychological aspects involved into it. These disorders not only affect physical health of women but to a greater extent mental health is also affected. Considering this point of view, present review is emphasized on the impact of obesity on female sexual dysfunctions.

Objective: Sexual dysfunction is an important public health concern. Sexual dysfunctions, characterized by disturbances in sexual desire, arousal, erection, orgasm or sexual satisfaction have been reported in different research around the world. Prevalence range of disturbances is from 20% to 30% and 40% to 45% for men and women respectively. The aim of this study was to explore prevalence of sexual dysfunction in a Colombian male and female sample. Design and Method: Sample was composed by a non-representative national sample of 1366 women and 1410 men, aged from 18 to 73. To assess sexual dysfunction the Colombian version of the Massachusetts General Hospital- Sexual Functioning Questionnaire (MGH-SFQ) was used. Results: Results indicate on one hand that sexual dysfunction is more prevalent in women (42.5%) than men (32.1 %). On the other hand, in women, problems related to desire (28.5%) were more common, while in men those related to desire and sexual satisfaction, 21.4% and 21% respectively, were more prevalent. In women, problems related to desire (28.5%) were more common, while in men those related to desire and sexual satisfaction 21.4% and 21%, respectively were more prevalent. Furthermore, no evidence was found about the relationship between the sociodemographic characteristic (socioeconomic level, years of education and religion) and the sexual dysfunction; with exception of age. These results are similar to those observed in other cultures. Conclusions: This study shows the importance of epidemiologic research in male and female sexual dysfunction for the identification of risk factors.

Female sexual dysfunction has always had challenges related to nosological issues due to inadequate research and understanding in this area. The ICD-11 has proposed substantial changes to the classification of conditions related to sexual health. In this review, we have discussed the proposed changes, compared with other classificatory systems and discussed its implications on clinical practice and research in this field. While there have been several progressive moves in the taxonomy of sexual dysfunctions, we have expressed our views on possible changes which can help with better diagnosis and management of sexual problems in women.

Abstract Background Many patients with chronic illness have sexual dysfunction that may be related to the condition itself, drug side effects, emotional sequel, or a combination of those factors. Patients with epilepsy are no exception. Men and women with epilepsy are frequently complaining sexual dysfunction and they appear to have a higher incidence of sexual dysfunction than peoples with other chronic neurologic illness. These problems can have a substantial impact on their sexuality thus; it needs careful study and evaluation. Methods Hospital based cross sectional study was conducted from January to July, 2016 among Patient with Epilepsy at Amanuel Mental Specialty Hospital. Interviewer administered Changes in Sexual Functioning Questionnaire (CSFQ-14) was used in order to assess the sexual problems. Finally, the data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) V-20. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used to describe the variables. Levels of significance of association determined at < 0.05. Results A total of 694 respondents participated, with response rate 99.14%. Among them 576 completed all items. The result showed that 363 subjects (63.9, 95%CI = 59.5–67.7) had global sexual dysfunction. Furthermore, the rate of sexual dysfunction was reported as 55.6% (95%CI = 49.1–62.6) and 67.4% (95%CI = 62.8–72.1) in female and male participants, respectively. Among domains of sexual dysfunction; sexual arousal problem (97.8% (95%CI = 95.8–98.3)) and sexual pain problem (11.3% (95%CI = 8.8–13.9)) were the most and the least prevalent sexual dysfunctions respectively. Concerning associated factors; age grouped > 51, depression, being out of relationship or not satisfied with non-sexual aspect of relationship, being jobless and khat use has positive association with sexual dysfunction. By the other side alcohol use, level of education & age groups 18–21 years associated negatively. Conclusions The prevalence of sexual dysfunction among patients with epilepsy is very high; its prevalence is more among males than females. Sexual arousal problem and sexual pain problem were the most and the least prevalent sexual dysfunctions respectively.
