A Matlab-Simulink environment used to build a model of an Induction Motor (IM) to study and explore methods for minimizing the torque ripple. Various control strategies were reviewed and simulation studies were carried out for the following control methods: Direct Torque control, Direct Torque control with harmonic elimination, and Direct Torque control with Matrix convertor were the obtained results analyzed, evaluated, and compared to each other. The simulation results confirmed that Using Direct Torque Control with Harmonic elimination method was significantly minimized the torque ripple as the harmonics of the output voltage were canceled; discussions and conclusions were presented in this study.

The asynchronous or Induction Motor (IM) is one of the most widely used electrical machines in the world, due to the three following advantages namely 1.Their construction is simple and rugged 2.The absence of slip rings, commutators and brushes make it cheaper, and 3.It is also maintenance free compared to DC motors and Synchronous motor due to wear and tear of brushes, slip rings and commutators respectively. The Section 1 deals with the introduction of induction motor and Direct Torque Control scheme. Section 2 briefly discusses the types of Induction motor. Section 3 tells about the control strategies of Induction motor respectively scalar control and vector control, and also briefly explains about Direct Torque Control (DTC) method. The Section 4 discuss about the Types of Control Strategies for Torque ripple Reductions in DTC as well as the two proposed schemes namely 1.Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for DTC-SVM and 2.Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controller for DTC-SVM respectively for IM and its results, The two proposed schemes uses Hybrid Asymmetric Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (HASVPWM) for switching the inverter. The Section 5 revels about the modern advanced techniques such as ANN and FLC based DTC.

Torque ripple reduction is one of the major challenges in switching table-based direct torque control (DTC) while operating for open phase faults of an induction motor, as the switching vectors are unevenly distributed. This can be minimized by increasing the level of the inverter and with the use of multi-phase motors. Fuzzy logic-based DTC is another solution to the above problem. In this paper, a comparative analysis is done between switching table-based DTC (ST-DTC) and fuzzy logic-based DTC for increasing the performance during open phase faults of a five-phase induction motor. The result shows that in fuzzy logic-based DTC with a two-level inverter, the torque ripple is reduced by 5.164% as compared with ST-DTC with a three-level inverter. The fuzzy logic-based DTC with the three-level inverter also gives better performance as compared with fuzzy logic-based DTC with the two-level inverter. The current ripple also reduced by 9.605% with respect to ST-DTC. Thus, fuzzy logic-based DTC is more suitable and cost effective for open phase fault-tolerant drives.

For disadvantages of the large flux and torque ripple and current waveform distortion of Direct Torque Control (BASIC-DTC), the DTC scheme for induction motor based on torque angle closed-loop control was presented and the proposed scheme was realized with three methods of torque angle closed-loop control. The main characteristics of three methods of torque angle closed-loop control for the proposed scheme was analyzed, emphasizing their advantages and disadvantages. The performance of three methods of torque angle closed-loop control for the proposed scheme was studied in terms of flux and torque ripple, current waveform distortion and transient responses. Simulation results showed that the proposed scheme improves the performance of induction motor BASIC-DTC by combining low flux ripple, low torque ripple and low current waveform distortion’s characteristics with fast dynamics.

In these days, developments in the area of Induction Motor control is increasing significantly. Considerable advancements have been taken place in the area of Direct Torque Control (DTC), which is capable of providing quick dynamic response with respect to torque and flux. This paper presents a detailed survey on various latest techniques of DTC control of Induction Motor such as DTC-SVM with hysteresis band, DTCSVM with Model Predictive Control, DTC with sliding mode control, DTC with Model reference adaptive system (MRAS) et cetera. The simulation results are discussed for DTC-SVPWM topology and results obtained proves that this method has reduced torque ripple

In direct torque control system for induction motor, the system has big torque ripple and strong noise caused by torque ripple. In indirect stator-quantities control, a slip frequency controller, based on power frequency exponent integration reaching law sliding model, is adopted by using practical measure velocity and calculation torque of motor flux model. The slip frequency error is fast convergent and stable in the nearby zero value, the method reduces torque ripple and improve dynamic and stable performance. The stability analysis of the scheme is given by using Lyapunov method. The simulation results verify the effectiveness and correctness of the method.
