This study aims to determine the effect of the use of Jigsaw learning model on mutual respect in grade VIII junior high school students. The study population consisted of 3 classes totaling 72 students. The sample of this research is class VIII students, amounting to 23 students. The determination of the sample class of this study was carried out using random sampling techniques. The research data were obtained through the distribution of pre-test and post-test in which validity were tested using the product moment formula. Research data were analyzed using quantitative techniques through independent sample t-test. The results showed that the use of the Jigsaw learning model had a significant effect on the mutual respect of students in the eighth grade. The results of this study can be a reference for education practitioners and related parties in an effort to instill mutual respect for students in schools, especially in the learning process. These findings can be further research material to find models, methods, or media that can be used by education practitioners and related parties for character education in schools.

The research is an inventory aimed at identifying and categorizing the character values in the English package books for students of Islamic Junior High School or Madrasah Tsanawiyah by considering their relevance to Islamic character values in the Quran and Hadits. The method used was content analysis following Bogdan and Biklen model by analyzing, grouping, sorting, and synthesizing the values taken from the package books to draw the patterns.  The patterns were discussed to conclude the final findings to be disseminated as the list of inventory.  The main data source was the English package books published by the government and the supporting data were the Core Competencies taken from Curriculum 2013 for Junior High School (SMP) and Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) or Islamic Junior High School students. There are 10 values inserted in the package books that are relevant to the Islamic religious characters. The result showed various English expressions relevant to Islamic character values which have a long-term and sustainable effect as a reference for character building by English teachers in developing English supplementary materials for Islamic Junior High School students.

To provide educational and learning services to students during the Covid-19 Pandemic, learning is carried out by learning from home. The disparity in learning achievements, especially related to attitude competencies, is strongly experienced during learning from home. This study aims to integrate attitude values through learning with Ki Hajar Dewantara’s scaffolding concept comprising Identifying, Imitating, Developing, Disseminating respectively. This scaffolding is applied to strengthen the character of junior high school students in Yogyakarta Special Province to become Pancasila Students. This is a Research and Development study which applies a qualitative approach. Respondents to this study were teachers, principals, students, parents and junior high school supervisors in this province. Data were collected using focus group discussion, interview, observation.. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman models which comprised data reduction, data display and inference stages. The results of this study is a character education strengthening model during learning from home applying Ki Hajar Dewantara’s scaffolding concept. This model contributes to policy making of character education strengthening during the learning from home online.

The purpose of this study is to determine the cooperative method of talking chips type in character education for junior high school students. Data is taken from trusted literature such as books and journals. The method used is a match (looking for a partner), 2. Think Fair-Share (thinking-pairing), 3. Talking chips, 4. roundtable. The results will be expected later for junior high school students when the learning process and student learning are more active, disciplined, organized and evenly distributed.   Keywords: method, students, character education, discipline

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, learning activities have encountered obstacles. One of the impacts was the low learning outcomes achieved by students. The purpose of this study was to improve the learning outcomes of junior high school students during the physical distancing period by implementing problem-based learning through Smart Apps Creator 3. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) used Smart Apps Creator 3 as the platform during learning activities of junior high school students. The research subjects were junior high school students (VIII graders of SMP Negeri 8 Surakarta) with a total number of students was 32 which consisted of 16 males and 16 females. The results showed that the application of Smart Apps Creator 3 has improved students’ learning outcomes. It has been proven that the average test score increased from 73.43 (pre-cycle) to 85.56 (cycle II). Moreover, the N gain score obtained was 0.45 (categorized as sufficient). In addition, the percentages of classical learning completeness were 59.37% (pre-cycle) and 93.75% (cycle II). Thus, the Smart Apps Creator 3 can improve student learning outcomes.

Background Sleep disorders are prevalent in adolescents and may influence their academic achievement. To date, no study has been done in Indonesia on academic achievement in students with sleep disorders and its related factors. Objective To assess for relationships between academic achievement and related factors, including gender, motivation and learning strategies, IQ level, maternal educational level, socioeconomic status, family structure, after-hours education program, presence of TV/computer in the bedroom, sleep duration during school days, as well as bedtime and wakeup time difference in junior high school students with sleep disorders. Methods This cross-sectional study was performed from January to March 2013. Subjects were students from five junior high schools in Jakarta who fulfilled the criteria for sleep disorders based on the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children questionnaire. Results There were 111 study subjects. The prevalence of sleep disorders was 39.7%, mostly in difficulties initiating and maintaining sleep (70.2%). Below-average academic achievement was seen in 47.6% of subjects. Factors significantly related to below-average academic achievement were after-hours education program (prevalence ratio 5.6; 95%CI 1.36 to 23.18; P = 0.017), average IQ level (prevalence ratio 3.26; 95%CI 1.38 to 7.71; P = 0.007), and male gender (prevalence ratio 2.68; 95%CI 1.06 to 6.78; P = 0.037). Conclusion Among junior high school students with sleep disorders, factors related to below-average academic achievement are afterhours education program (more than 2 types), the average IQ level, and male gender.

This research aims to determine whether the achievement and improvement of mathematical critical thinking abilities of junior high school students who get the experiential learning model is better than those who get conventional learning and to find out which indicators of critical thinking abilities that junior high school students find difficult. This research is a quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research type. The design in this research was the randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The instrument used in this research is a set of tests to describe the mathematical critical thinking ability with a system of two-variable linear equations. The analysis used in this research using the t test, with a one-party hypothesis. Post-test data is used to see the achievement of mathematical critical thinking abilities and N-gain data to see the improvement. The conclusion in this research is the achievement and improvement of mathematical critical thinking abilities of students who receive experiential learning is better than the mathematical critical thinking abilities of students who receive conventional learning. There is aspect that students find difficult, namely the advanced clarification aspect.
