To conduct the experiment, samples of domestic wastewater entering the treatment facilities of the USC of JSC «OmskVodokanal» were taken as the object of research. The level of wastewater treatment according to the chemical parameters of tertiary wastewater treatment, a certain degree of efficiency of wastewater treatment of enterprises is investigated. As a result of the analytical evaluation, the most effective method of post-traumatic treatment was identified.

Present study was carried out to determine the important physico chemical parameters of water of Tapi estuary in Hazira industrial area. Tapi estuary receives the inputs of organic matter and nutrients coming from the domestic wastewater discharges from Surat City, a textile hub as well as industrial effluents from Hazira, a major industrial Complex of Gujarat, India. Uncontrolled discharges of domestic wastes and industrial effluents have affected the estuary. Present study was carried out from June - 2011 to May 2012 to study the impacts of uncontrolled discharges on physicochemical characteristics of water. Samples were collected monthly in the morning during low tide to determine the important physico chemical parameters Viz. Turbidity, conductivity, total solid, total dissolved solid, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, BOD, COD, Calcium, chloride, sodium , potassium and nutrients like nitrate, nitrite and phosphate. Dissolved oxygen was found extremely low during the study period. High biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen demand (COD) showed that the water quality of estuary has been affected by industrial and domestic effluents. Communal wastewater treatment plant (CWWTP) has been chosen as one system to treat domestic wastewater due to simple technology, flexible management, and cost-effectiveness. There are 376 CWWTP have been recorded by Environmental Agency of Yogyakarta (DLH DIY) that spread in five regencies. Monitoring results on CWWTP effluent showed that some physical and chemical parameters did not meet the domestic wastewater standard. Therefore, evaluation of removal efficiency in terms physical and chemical parameters are necessary. The samples were collected from nine CWWTP in Banguntapan, Bantul and Gamping sub-districts. The physical and chemicals parameters (pH, TSS, BOD, COD, Ammonia, oil, and grease) of influent and effluent from CWWTP are analyzed based on National Standard of Indonesia (SNI) for domestic wastewater. The results show that BOD (>70%) and TSS (>50%) have better removal effectiveness compare with COD, ammonia, oil, and grease (40%). Overall, CWWTP in Banguntapan subdistrict has better performance compare with CWWTP in Bantul subdistrict.

Small-scale wastewater treatment facilities play an important role in improving the aquatic environment in many countries. Although sludge treatment is essential for overall wastewater treatment, it is difficult for small-scale facilities to use mechanical equipment or other facilities. As the first step of the sludge treatment, it is important to develop a convenient sludge thickening process for small-scale facilities. In this work, we examined the sludge thickening performance of a mesh filtration system: the mesh opening sizes of 100-500 μm, and the sludge (3,000-9,000 mg-SS/L) was obtained from a domestic wastewater treatment facility. The filtration was carried out only under the hydraulic pressure between the water level and the effluent port connected to the mesh filter module. The sludge reduction rates were in the range of 85-95% for 6-7 h; the initial filtration rate was very high, but the rate decreased with a decrease in hydraulic pressure due to the reduction of the water level in the vessel. In addition, the effluents (passed through the mesh) contained very low SS and could be directly discharged into the environment.

<p>Bioelectrochemical systems (BES) are devices that transform the chemical energy of organic and inorganic substrates into an electric current. BES represents a particularly interesting biosensor technology for monitoring the performance of  remote/isolated wastewater treatment facilities (such as constructed wetlands). The work presented here aimed to assess the potential use of the electric signal produced by low-cost, membrane-less BES systems as an indicator of the operational conditions and treatment performance of natural-based wastewater treatment systems. For this purpose, several BES configurations and operation modes working under real domestic wastewater conditions were monitored.</p><p>Results showed that the electric current produced by the BES significantly correlates with key parameters in biological-based wastewater treatment systems such as microbial activity and biomass, water COD or solids accumulation. Therefore, our work demonstrates the feasibility of applying bioelectrochemical-based low-cost biosensors for the improvement and control of natural-based wastewater treatment systems.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Keywords: bioelectrochemical systems, wastewater, microbial activity, organic matter, low-cost, biosensor</p>
