Vision impairment is estimated to affect 285 million people in the world, where 16-20% experience blindness, from the number of blindness suffered at the age of 40-50 years. Cataract seninis is all lens opacities that are found in old age that is above 40 years. The purpose of identifying and collecting frequency data Profile of Senilis cataract patients at the age of 40 years and above at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang in 2017. The research method is descriptive type of research, this study data taken is secondary data, In this study data was taken from the Medical Record at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang. When the study was conducted in February-August 2018, the population of this study were all cataract patients at the age of 40 years and above at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang in 2017 with 80 samples. Data analysis is univariate presented in the form of a frequency distribution table. Results From 80 respondents as many as 40 people (50%) were in the age range of 60-69 years, as many as 42 people (52.5%) patients were male, as many as 31 people (38.8%) patients with high school education and 35 people (43.8%) patients work as private companies. Conclusion In general, most patients are at the age of 60-69 years, the most sex is men, the highest education is high school and most patients are private.

Background: Senile cataract can be expressed with different clinical presentation. Objective: The purpose of the present study was to find out the clinical profiles of senile cataract patients. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at National Institute of Ophthalmology, Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 1999 to December 2000 for a period of two (02) years. Patients with senile cataract were selected for study. The details clinical profiles of the study population were recorded like types, grades of cataract and visual acuity. Data were collected on pre-designed data collection sheet, compiled and appropriate statistical analysis was done using computer based software. Result: A total number of 60 eyes of cataract patients were recruited for this study. The mean age with the standard deviation was 58.8±6.055 years. Majority of the patients were suffering from total cataract that is nuclear plus cortical plus posterior subcapsular variety which was 31(51.7%) eyes of cataract patients. Majority of the patients were grade III (amber) type of nuclear sclerosis which was 26(43.3%) eyes of cataract patients. Most of the patients were presented with PL which was 32(53.3%) eyes of cataract patients. Conclusion: In conclusion majority of the patients are suffering from total cataract with grade III (amber) type of nuclear sclerosis. Objective. To evaluate the postoperative visual quality of cataract patients with extreme myopia after implantation of aspheric intraocular lenses (IOLs). Methods. Thirty-three eyes were enrolled in this prospectivestudy. Eighteen eyes with an axial length longer than 28 mm were included in the extreme myopia group, and the other 15 eyes were included in the nonextreme myopia group. Phacoemulsification and aspheric IOL implantation were performed. Six months after cataract surgery, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), contrast sensitivity, and wavefront aberrations were measured, and subjective visual quality was assessed. Results. The BCVA improved significantly after surgery for both groups, and patients in the nonextreme myopia group achieved better postoperative BCVA due to better retinal status of the eyes. The evaluation of contrast sensitivity without glare was the same in both groups, whereas patients in the nonextreme myopia group performed better at intermediate spatial frequencies under glare conditions. The two groups did not show a significant difference in high-order aberrations. With regard to subjective visual quality, the composite scores of both groups did not differ significantly. Conclusions. Aspheric IOLs provided good visual outcomes in cataract patients with extreme myopia. These patients should undergo careful evaluation to determine the maculopathy severity level before surgery.

Objectives: To compare the recently used phacoemulsification systems using a health technology assessment (HTA) model.Methods: A self-administered questionnaire, which included questions to gauge on the opinions of the recently used phacoemulsification systems, was distributed to the chief cataract surgeons in the departments of ophthalmology of eighteen tertiary hospitals in Shanghai, China. A series of senile cataract patients undergoing phacoemulsification surgery were enrolled in the study. The surgical results and the average costs related to their surgeries were all recorded and compared for the recently used phacoemulsification systems.Results: The four phacoemulsification systems currently used in Shanghai are the Infiniti Vision, Centurion Vision, WhiteStar Signature, and Stellaris Vision Enhancement systems. All of the doctors confirmed that the systems they used would help cataract patients recover vision. A total of 150 cataract patients who underwent phacoemulsification surgery were enrolled in the present study. A significant difference was found among the four groups in cumulative dissipated energy, with the lowest value found in the Centurion group. No serious complications were observed and a positive trend in visual acuity was found in all four groups after cataract surgery. The highest total cost of surgery was associated with procedures conducted using the Centurion Vision system, and significant differences between systems were mainly because of the cost of the consumables used in the different surgeries.Conclusions: This HTA comparison of four recently used phacoemulsification systems found that each of system offers a satisfactory vision recovery outcome, but differs in surgical efficacy and costs.
