The current study aims to gain insight on the effect of social responsibility disclosure on the quality of earnings in (42) Saudi Basic Materials companies listed in the Saudi Financial Market. The extrapolation approach has been used to achieve the goals of the study. Also, the descriptive analytical approach has been employed to analyze the content of the financial reports of the sample companies for the period (2015 – 2017) in order to determine the level of disclosure of social responsibility. The quality of earnings has been measured by using the Modified Jones Model. The most significant study findings show that 92.5% of the sample companies disclosed their social responsibility using descriptive disclosure methods. The study findings also show that there is a statistically significant relationship between disclosure of social responsibility and between the improvement of the quality of earnings in the Basic Materials sector due to the strong positive correlation between discretionary accounting accruals and disclosure of social responsibility. The study has also found that there is a statistically significant relationship between social responsibility and between the effectiveness of the accruals method in measuring the quality of earnings in the Saudi Basic Materials sector, where the accruals quality method proved to be efficient in measuring the quality of earnings. In view of the findings, the study recommends to actively promote the role of the organizations that regulate social responsibility in order to increase the level of social responsibility, and to promote the role of monitoring which will in turn improve the quality and level of earnings.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become the central theme of many debates on the role of organizations in society in recent years. The voluntary incorporation of strategies that influence economic profitability and in turn social and environmental issues is already a reality in companies. This article has several aims: (1) to analyse whether CSR is strategic and cross-cutting for companies and whether there exists a true dialogue between companies and stakeholders; (2) to identify the functions, relationships and quality of CSR or sustainability directors; (3) to determine the main challenges for the future; (4) to reflect on the impact that Covid-19 has had on the development of CSR in businesses. The study was based on the Delphi method and employed a sample of 20 experts: 10 academics (lecturers and researchers) and 10 professionals (communication and CSR directors, and CSR and reputation consultants). The results reveal that: (1) with the exception of SMEs, CSR management in companies is strategic and cross-cutting; (2) there is no reciprocal dialogue between companies and stakeholders; (3) the functions carried out by CSR directors can be classified as analytical, strategic, tactical and communicative; (4) the most outstanding qualities of the CSR director are communication skills, deep knowledge of the company and a willingness to work as part of a team; (5) the main challenge for senior management for the future is to be more strategic; (6) Covid-19 has changed the focus in CSR areas of action and in the prioritization of stakeholders. In short, we conclude that CSR management is well rooted in companies and represents a true transformation for businesses as social entities.

The integrated Disclosure aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the performance of the organization, and because the quality of the Disclosure is a critical aspect of the integrated reports, so the research aims to show the impact of the diversity of the board of directors on the quality of the integrated reports and the promotion of the social responsibility of the organization, and to make decisions about disclosure and integration in the information provided in order to benefit from it In building integrated visions about the organization, assuming that the diversity of the board of directors has a significant relationship to the extent to which the quality of integrated Disclosure is achieved, that the most important findings of the research stipulate that the diversity of the board of directors contributes to social responsibility and integrated disclosure, and the strengthening of organizational culture and administrative practices, and the research recommends, The need to interact with the environment and the communities in which the organization operates, to enable it to provide environmental, social or ethical information, along with financial, strategic and governance information in an annual report. The increase in the number of firms manipulating financial reports has misled shareholders' investment decisions and resulted in an indelible blot on foreign investors’ trust. Due to earnings management (EM) practice, managers' inefficiency, and lack of transparency in Iraq companies. This study tested the influence of the corporate governance mechanisms (CG), (board independence, audit committee, meeting frequency) on EM based on agency theory, as well, to link between EM and firm's performance (FP) in Iraqi listed companies and the impact of moderating role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) based on the Stakeholder Theory. The study's sample consists of 65 companies for the 2013-2018 financial years. Data were collected mainly from the annual reports (secondary data) of the Iraqi listed firms. This study uses the M-score model to detect EM practices as practical techniques in detecting earnings manipulation practices. The panel static model estimators. Hence, this paper adds to the CG literature from the perspective of stakeholder theory using Iraq's unique industrial environment. Based on the research results, policy-makers might use the study‘s findings to recognize the essential roles of several CG mechanisms in alleviating the opportunistic practices in Iraq. Further, companies should also be encouraged to enhance the CSR disclosure quality.

Purpose The purpose of the paper is to examine the impact of investor sentiment on managers’ decisions to provide CSR disclosures. The core issue focuses on whether, why and how managers adjust their approach to CSR disclosure to cater to the investor sentiment. Design/methodology/approach On the basis of 13,488 observations of A-share listed companies, the authors examine the impacts of investor sentiment on CSR disclosure, which is measured separately by the propensity to issue a standalone CSR report and the quality of CSR reports. Furthermore, the authors examine the moderating role of institutional factors in China. Findings The authors find that during low-sentiment periods, managers are more likely to issue a standalone CSR report and the quality of CSR reports is higher, and vice versa. Additionally, the authors find that the negative correlations between CSR disclosure and investor sentiment are stronger in state-owned enterprises. Research limitations/implications First, the measurement of investor sentiment reflects only a part of characteristics of investor sentiment. Second, the authors pay less attention to the specific items of a CSR report. Originality/value The study contributes to the literature on CSR disclosure and investor sentiment by combining the two fields together. Furthermore, the study deepens the understanding of the institutional context in China and contributes to research on the predictors of CSR disclosure.

The context of China fosters different contextual factors, which influences the quality of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure in comparison to firms across the rest of the world. Political ties at a corporate level are one of these vital factors. This paper studies the influence of firm-level political ties (PT) and executive turnover (ET) on the quality of CSR disclosure in the context of shareholding status of departing executive in Chinese listed A-share firms. Stakeholder and Agency theories are applied to the dissemination of CSR disclosures in Chinese firms whereby we used 20,578 firm-years interpretations of Chinese registered companies between 2012 and 2019. The results foster a negative link between executive turnover and quality of CSR disclosures. In addition, a negative relationship has been found between political ties and the quality of CSR disclosure. The findings disclose that the shareholding status of departing executive moderate the relationship between the impact of political ties and executive turnover on firms quality of CSR disclosure, whilst the effect of executive turnover on the quality of CSR disclosure was found more pronounced for firms whose departing executive held larger shareholding (SH). This study contributed to the literature on the quality of CSR disclosure while recognizing the negative effect of executive turnover on a firm’s quality of CSR disclosure for politically tied firms with a reinforcing moderating role of the shareholding status of departing executive.

AbstractThis study investigated the relationship between executive turnover (ET) and quality of corporate social responsibility disclosure (CSRD) at the firm level. The role of political embeddedness (PE) in the association between ET and CSRD quality in Chinese listed A-share firms is also inspected. We employed 20,850 firm’s/year observations between 2010 and 2016. An inverse relationship was found between ET and CSRD quality as well as PE and CSRD quality. In addition, the study findings disclose that corporate PE moderates the relationship between ET and a firm’s CSRD quality whilst the impact of ET on a company's CSRD quality was found more pronounced for firms with a low level of corporate PE. This examination adds to the literature on CSRD quality under the premise of normative stakeholder theory and leads to the conclusion that the political link of departing executives is an active participant in the exacerbation of CSRD quality in PE firms of China. This implies a reinvigoration of the roles of decision-makers for sustainable CSR assurance.

This study aims to show the importance of environmental costs, and the role of these costs to improve the quality of financial reporting in Libyan oil companies and offering the suggestions to develop it. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researchers developed a questionnaire contains (35) questions, distributed to (100) of the officials of the financial departments, auditing, and costs and the parties concerned with the preparation of financial reports, collected and used in the analysis, a one-sample T-test was used. It seems to the researchers that there was the presence of environmental awareness and the company's strategy towards environmental issues, the study also showed there are obstacles that limit the application of measurement and disclosure of environmental costs. Moreover, it seems to the researchers that the measurement models for environmental costs increase the company's commitment to environmental responsibilities. The results of the study also showed the presence of a statistically significant relationship between environmental costs and the increase in the quality of the financial reports. Finally, there was a statistically significant relationship between environmental costs and decision making. The study suggested some recommendations to develop the application of accounting for environmental costs and disclosure to provide appropriate information to rationalize and take decisions in the oil companies in Libya, as well as the need for companies to protect the environment and provide funding and support to preserve the environment.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not a new concept in the present scenario. CSR is a continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as the local community and society at large. After replacement of the Company Act 1956 by Corporate Act 2013, certain changes have been made. Earlier CSR was not mandatory for the Indian companies but after enforcement of Corporate Act 2013 it has become mandatory for those companies whose turnover is more than Rs. 1000 crore or net worth is more than Rs. 500 crore or net profit is more than Rs 5 crore. Such companies implement the CSR practice in their business and expend on CSR activities which should be 2% of their net profit. CSR is a concept where an organization considers the interest of society by taking responsibility for the impact of their activities on customers, suppliers, employees, shareholders, and other stakeholders. CSR policies, practices, and programmes are being comprehensively integrated by an increasing number of companies throughout their business operations and processes. This research paper highlights the concept, philosophy, role of CSR in value creation. How Indian companies are treating CSR activities in contemporary environment. In this study we found that community welfare, education and enlightening rural youth is the top priority areas for most Indian Companies.

This study aims to examine the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility on the Quality of Financial Reporting in manufacturing companies in Indonesia. The research sample consisted of 75 manufacturing companies that were observed from 2017 to 2019. This study uses a regression data panel to test the effect of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which is calculated by using a dummy variable on the Quality of Financial Reporting (FRQ) which uses a measure consisting of value relevance (VR), acrual quality (AQ) and earning persistence (EP). The results of research on manufacturing companies in Indonesia indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and value relevance. The results of research on manufacturing companies in Indonesia indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and accrual quality. The results of research on manufacturing companies in Indonesia show that there is a positive and significant relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and earning persistence.

This study aimed at discovering the impact of big data in terms of its dimensions (Variety, Velocity, Volume, and Veracity) on financial reports quality in the present business intelligence in terms of its dimensions (Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), Data Mining, and Data Warehouse) as a moderating variable in Jordanian telecom companies. The sample included (139) employees in Jordanian Telecom Companies. Multiple and Stepwise Linear Regression were used to test the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. And Hierarchical Regression analysis, to test the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable in the presence of the moderating variable.  The study reached a set of results, the most prominent of which was the presence of a statistically significant effect of using big data in improve the quality of financial reports, Business intelligence contributes to improving the impact of big data in terms of its dimensions (Volume, Velocity, Variety, and Veracity) on the quality of financial reports. The study recommends the necessity of working on making use of big data and resorting to business intelligence solutions because of its great role in improving the quality of financial reports and thus supporting decision-making functions for a large group of users.
