The difference in the scavenging potential of the extracts can be due to variation in the percentage of bioactive compounds present in different solvents. Invitroantioxidant studiesobviouslyshow the methanolic concentrates of Cassia absushave better antioxidant activity. This result indicates that aerial parts of methanolic concentratesCassia absuscould serve as a natural antioxidant, which may be useful in preventfree radical-induced diseases.

Cadaba farinosa (family Capparidaceae) is generally known as “Indian cadaba” in the traditional ayurvedic system. The current study, aerial parts of different concentrates (Pet.ether, ethyl acetate and methanol) of Cadaba farinose was evaluated for its in-vitro antioxidant potential by Diphenylpicrylhydrazyl radical, and total antioxidant activity taking ascorbate as standard and superoxide radical activity taking Quercetin as the standard for the in-vitro methods. The methanolic concentrates of Cadaba farinose& ascorbic acid exhibited antioxidant potential possessing IC50 208µg/ml & 66µg/ml (Diphenylpicrylhydrazyl radical) , 188µg/ml & 57µg/ml (total antioxidant). The methanolic concentrates of Cadaba farinose & quercetin exhibited antioxidant potential possessing IC50 252µg/ml & 60µg/ml (superoxide radical). The IC50 value was originated that methanolic concentrates of Cadaba farinose more efficient in Diphenylpicrylhydrazyl radical, superoxide radical activity, total antioxidant activity compared EA & PE concentrates. The difference in scavenging potential of the extracts can be due to variation in the percentage of bioactive compound present in different solvents. Invitro antioxidant studies show methanolic concentrates of Cadaba farinose have better antioxidant activity. Ipomoea pestigridis (Linn) (family Convolvulaceae) is commonly known as “Tiger Foot Morning Glory” in English and locally known as ‘Pulichuvadi’ or ‘Pulichuvadu’ in Malayalam. The current study, aerial parts of different concentrates(Pet.ether, ethyl acetate, and methanol) of I.pestigridis, was evaluated for its in-vitro antioxidant potential by nitric oxide activity, total antioxidant activity, iron chelating activity taking ascorbate & Ethylenediamine tetraacetate as the standard correspondingly. An IC50 value was originated that EA concentrates of I.pestigridis  more efficient in nitric oxide activity, total antioxidant activity, Iron chelating capacity compared methanolic & PE concentrates. The ethyl acetate concentrates of I.pestigridis  & ascorbic acid exhibited antioxidant potential possessing IC50 226µg/ml & 66µg/ml (Nitric oxide). 185µg/ml & 60µg/ml (total antioxidant) , 287µg/ml & 65µg/ml (iron-chelating Activity) respectively. The difference in the scavenging potential of the extracts can be due to variation in the percentage of bioactive compounds present in different solvents.  Invitro antioxidant studies obviously show  EA concentrates of I.pestigridis have better antioxidant activity. Antioxidant play an important role to protect damage caused oxidative stress (OS).Chlorophyll having phenolic contents are reported to possess antioxidant properties. The present study was designed to investigate the antioxidant properties of methanolic solution from Super Chlorophyll. Objective: The main objective of the study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the chlorophyll in different validated in vitro models. Methods: The antioxidant activities of methanolic solution were evaluated by in vitro standard method using UV-Spectrophotometer. The antioxidant activity were determined bt total antioxidant capacity, DPPH (1-1-diphennyl-2-picrylhydrzine) radical scavenging assay, Nitric Oxide scavenging assay and Hydrogen Peroxide scavenging assay methods. Result: The solution of Chlorophyll was studied for antioxidant potential. Ascorbic acid was used as standard. This method is simple and activity of the solution is reported in term of IC50 value. Antioxidant properties depend on the IC50 value. Lesser the IC50 value, more is the antioxidant activity. Chlorophyll showed good antioxidant activity. Conclusion:  In case of in vitro antioxidant activity, Chlorophyll scavenged DPPH, hydrogen peroxide, nitric oxide radicals significantly, showed IC50 values near to standard ascorbic acid, thus proving to have good antioxidant potential. Olax scandens Roxb. (family Olacaceae) available in throughout tropical India. The current study, aerial parts of different concentrates of Olax scandens was evaluated for its in-vitro antioxidant potential by FRAP assay taking ascorbic acid as the standard and estimation of total phenolic content and flavonoids content. The IC50 value was originated that methanolic concentrates of Olax scandens are more efficient in antioxidant activity by FRAP methods compared EA & PE concentrates. The methanolic concentrates of Olax scandens & ascorbate exhibited antioxidant potential possessing IC50 207µg/ml & 50µg/ml by Ferric reducing ability Power assay. The methanolic and EA concentrates of Olax scandens showed the total phenolic content (14.426 ± 0.032, 4.128 ± 0.025) respectively, and ৒lavonoids content (11.526 ± 0.054, 3.682 ± 0.042) respectively. Invitro antioxidant studies show methanolic concentrates of Olax scandens have better antioxidant activity as well as a higher content of total phenolic and flavonoids content. These results indicate that aerial parts of methanolic concentrates Olax scandens could serve as a natural antioxidant, which may be useful in preventing free radical-induced diseases.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the comparative antioxidant potential of methanol, ethyl acetate, pet ether and water extracts of Celastrus paniculatus seed. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by using total phenol and flavonoid content determination assays, total antioxidant capacity, 1,1-diphenyl-2- picryl-hydrazil (DPPH) free radical assay, Reducing power assessment, Nitric oxide (NO) scavenging assay and Cupric ion reducing capacity assay (CUPRAC method). The extracts showed moderate antioxidant activity in a dose dependent manner. The extracts were found to contain phenolics and flavonoid compounds. In DPPH radical scavenging assay, ethyl acetate extract had the lowest IC50 value (585.58μg/ml) compared to ascorbic acid. In nitric oxide scavenging assay IC50 value was found to be 122.99μg/ml, 320.54μg/ml, 601.81μg/ml and 206.37μg/ml respectively for the Water, Methanol, Ethyl Acetate and Pet Ether extracts compared to 6.83μg/ml which was the IC50 value for the reference ascorbic acid. The extracts also showed good reducing power. The results of the present study indicate that the extracts possesses significant antioxidant potential of which ethyl acetate extract is the most promising one and possess highest antioxidant potential. Antioxidants are substances that hamper or inhibit the oxidation of oxidizable substrates in the cells. The aerial parts of Blepharis maderaspatensis dry powder was extracted with various solvents (PE, EA and methanol) through Soxhlet extractor. The aerial parts of different concentrates (Pet.ether, ethyl acetate and methanol) of Blepharis maderaspatensis was evaluated for its in-vitro antioxidant potential by hydroxyl radical, total antioxidant activity taking ascorbate used as standard for the both methods and total flavonoids content was estimated as equivalent to rutin. The methanolic concentrates of Blepharis maderaspatensis & standard exhibited antioxidant potential possessing IC50 210µg/ml & 62µg/ml (hydroxyl radical) 200µg/ml & 57µg/ml (Total antioxidant activity) respectively. An IC50 value was originate that methanolic concentrates of Blepharis maderaspatensis more efficient in hydroxyl radical, total antioxidant activity compared EA & PE concentrates. The methanolic and EA concentrates of Blepharis maderaspatensis showed the total flavonoids content (11.230±0.22 and 2.858±0.56 mg of rutin equivalent/g of powder) respectively. The difference in scavenging potential of the extracts can be due to variation in the percentage of bioactive compound flavonoids present in methanolic extracts. Invitro antioxidant studies obviously show methanolic concentrates of Blepharis maderaspatensis have better antioxidant activity due to the presence of total flavonoids content. The findings from the study reveal that the antioxidative potentials of methanolic concentrates Blepharis maderaspatensis could serve as free radical inhibitors, possibly acting as natural antioxidants.

Phlomis bruguieri is a native plant in Iran, which deserves phytochemical study. The aim of this study was evaluation of its iridoid contents along with its antioxidant capacity. Aerial parts of the plant material were extracted with methanol and applied on repeated normal column chromatography using hexane: chloroform (70:30), chloroform: methanol (90:10), and methanol (100%). The fraction eluted with methanol (100%) containing polar glycosides was selected and medium pressure liquid chromatography (MPLC) on a RP-18 cartridge. Fraction elute by MeOH: water 30:70 was loaded on HPLC on RP-18 column for final purification. Structure elucidation was done using 1D and 2D NMR, and mass spectra. Antioxidant activity including total antioxidant capacity, DPPH and FRAP methods were designated to assess the in vitro antioxidant capacities. This study indicated the presence of lamiide as iridoid compound in the aerial parts of Phlomis bruguieri for the first time in this plant [350 mg/2 kg; 0.0175 % (w/w)]. Lamiide showed moderate antioxidant activity using TAC (EC50: 55 μg/mL; ascorbic acid EC50: 7.5 μg/mL), DPPH (EC50: 116.2 ± 3.51 μg/mL; ascorbic acid:34.7 ± 0.97 μg/mL), and FRAP (EC50:>200 μg/mL; quercetin: 7.5 ± 0.68 μg/mL) methods.

Zanthoxylum armatumDC. (syn.Z. alatumRoxb.) is an important medicinal plant commonly called Timur or Indian prickly ash. The ethnopharmacological study ofZ. armatumrevealed the use of different plant parts for curing various ailments including cholera, chest infection, fever, indigestion, stomach disorders, gas problems, piles, toothache, gum problems, dyspepsia, as carminative, antipyretic, aromatic, tonic, and stomachic. Keeping in view the medicinal potential of the plant, the antioxidant activity was evaluated using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, reducing power, and phosphomolybdate assay using different concentrations (7.81 μg/mL–250 μg/mL). Ascorbic acid was taken as standard. The results indicated that the free radical scavenging activity ranged from 40.12% to 78.39%, and the reductive potential ranged from 0.265 nm to 1.411 nm while the total antioxidant activity ranged from 0.124 nm to 0.183 nm. The antioxidant potential evaluated by three assays increased in a concentration dependent manner and ascorbic acid showed better antioxidant activity than leaf extract. Results obtained through different tests confirmed redox protective activities ofZanthoxylum armatum. Further in vitro and in vivo research should be performed, so this plant can be further utilized in drug development.

Abstract Background Wedelia chinensis has been reported as a folk medicine for the treatment of different diseases including neurodegenerative disease. Although the plant has been studied well for diverse biological activities, the effect of this plant in neurological disorder is largely unknown. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the cholinesterase inhibitory and antioxidant potential of W. chinensis. Methods The extract and fractions of the plant were evaluated for acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitory activity by modified Ellman method. The antioxidant activity was assessed in several in vitro models/assays such as reducing power, total antioxidant capacity, total phenolic and flavonoid content, scavenging of 2,2’-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and hydroxyl radical, and inhibition of brain lipid peroxidation. Chromatographic and spectroscopic methods were used to isolate and identify the active compound from the extract. Results Among the extract and functions, aqueous fraction (AQF) and ethylacetate fraction (EAF) exhibited high inhibition against acetylcholinesterase (IC50: 40.02 ± 0.164 µg/ml and 57.76 ± 0.370 µg/ml) and butyrylcholinesterase (IC50: 31.79 ± 0.182 µg/ml and 48.41 ± 0.053 µg/ml). Similarly, the EAF and AQF had high content of phenolics and flavonoids and possess strong antioxidant activity in several antioxidant assays including DPPH and hydroxyl radical scavenging, reducing power and total antioxidant activity. They effectively inhibited the peroxidation of brain lipid in vitro with IC50 values of 45.20 ± 0.995 µg/ml and 25.53 ± 0.042 µg/ml, respectively. A significant correlation was observed between total flavonoids and antioxidant and cholinesterase inhibitory activity. Activity guided chromatographic separation led to the isolation of a major active compound from the EAF and its structure was elucidated as apigenin by spectral analysis. Conclusions The potential ability of W. chinensis to inhibit the cholinesterase activity and peroxidation of lipids suggest that the plant might be useful for the management of AD.
