Presidential and vice presidential candidates, Joko Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin and Prabowo-Sandi have been officialy registered as president and vice president candidates for Indonesia Presidential Election 2019. Both of president candidates gave a political speeches after registering at the KPU. Those speeches become a representation of their perception regarding presidential election 2019. That is why it is so important to reveal their political speech. This research used Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis. They both realize if the registration for presidential election just for the importance of Indonesian. Prabowo just give a different emphasis about KPU which have to guard the presidential election of 2019 that free from cheating. That point based on consideration if Prabowo as the president candidate who ever lose in presidential election of 2014 and has an argument if the defeat caused by cheating. Unfortunately, the commitment of pair of presidential and vice presidential candidate is still far from hope. The fact is everyday the community get a treated of bad political. This paper tries to indicate how the candidates of Iran’s eleventh presidential election attempted to rise to power by the means of language. In this analysis, the discourse theory of Laclau and Mouffe is applied. The candidates tried to win the battlefield of election by creating exclusion borders and excluding their rivals. Critical discourse analysis is a methodology that can reveal ideological purposes behind the political discourses to reflect the hidden Realities. The study of the debates between presidential candidates shows that Hassan Rouhani was elected because he could exclude other discourses resulting from the rising sociopolitical crisis. Nevertheless, He could not articulate his floating signifiers and his discourse was not hegemonic.

In this paper I analyse differences in the legitimation strategies used by and on behalf of the two presidential candidates in the elections of December 2004 in Romania, using a combination of Critical Discourse Analysis and pragmadialectics. These differences are seen to lie primarily in the varieties of populist discourse that were drawn upon in the construction of legitimizing arguments for both candidates: a paternalist type vs. a radical, anti-political type of populism. I relate the success of the latter type to more effective strategic maneuvering in argumentation, part of more effective branding strategies in general, but also to existing types of political culture amongst the electorate and to social, economic circumstances. In CDA terms, I discuss the “Băsescu brand” as involving choices at the level of discourse, genre and style; in pragma-dialectical terms, I view its success as partly the effect of successful strategic maneuvering. I also place the success of this brand within the Romanian context at the end of 2004, where often questionable populist electoral messages were perceived as reasonable and acceptable, as fitting adjustments to the situation and even as means of optimizing the deliberative situation of the electorate.

Joko Widodo as the elected president delivered his political speech following the judgement of The Constitutional Court of Indonesia regarding the lawsuit of the election of the president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 period. In the judgement, the Constitutional Court of Indonesia affirmed to reject the lawsuit and decided Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin as the elected President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. Thus, such political speech cannot be considered as independent. In his speech, Joko Widodo conveyed statement and ideology through language. Therefore, Joko Widodo’s speech was analyzed using the Huckin model for critical discourse analysis approach which was carried out using qualitative descriptive methods. The data source was Joko Widodo’s speech after the judgement of the Constitutional Court of Indonesia broadcasted nationwide. The analysis was carried out to look for genre, framing, foregrounding or backgrounding, presuppositions, and differences in topics, as well as analysis of sentences and words. The result shows that Joko Widodo used straightforward and explicit language and was presented in an argumentative and persuasive manner.
Due to a narrative that speeches may assist with understanding gender identity indexical(s) in politics, this study aims to discover such meanings underneath the text production of Hillary Clinton’s concession speech post-defeat in the latest US presidential election. Through Critical Discourse Analysis – Text as A Critical Object (CDA – TACO), it seems evident in Hillary Clinton’s speech that there are patriotic lexical choices, parallelism, alliteration, anthropomorphization, and repetition for emphasis, personal pronoun “I” and “my”, suggesting a certain degree of assertiveness, which are generally specific to male politicians (Reyes, 2015). There is a marked use of collective pronoun “we”, “our”, connoting a level of intimacy between the speaker and audience, interestingly however, evidenced not only on Clinton’s speech but male politicians as wel, thus rendering it gender-neutral. Evidences of backgrounding, thus distancing self, when the politician utters disappointments are noticeable. Findings partially prove that gender-driven lexical choice by Hillary Clinton noticeably conforms to those of male orators in politics, although most of her expressions suggest commonality of political speeches. Limitations of the study are put forth.
Keywords: gender; politics; identity indexical(s); CDA

The presidential election in Indonesia, which will take place in April 2019, brings up Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto as candidates. Before August 10, 2018, the two candidates have sought best candidates for Vice President. They lead intensive political lobbies. The media often publish various political events, printed as well as online media, including the Gazette of Bali and Les Echos. The purpose of this research is to find representations of Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto on both online media and what messages they sent to readers. To collect data, we used the method of intensive reading of the discourses that represent the candidates, published from January up to the beginning of August 2018 with the copy texts technique. By analyzing we used Theo van Leeuwen’s Critical Discourse Analysis and Halliday’s transitivity. The analysis shows that bali-gazette.com and LesEchos.fr represented more positively Joko Widodo than Prabowo Subianto which means that the two media online would have a preference for Joko Widodo (the incumbent and the 2019 candidate 2019) rather than Prabowo Subianto (2019 candidate). Their preference would be an economic motive rather ideological since the Bali Gazette is a cultural-tourism-culinary journal and Les Échos is an economic-financial journal. So, there is the relationship between discourse and (policy) economic.

The Critical Discourse Analysis is often applied to analyze political discourse including the political speech. This article analyzes Grace Natalie Louisa’s Speech, mainly in Festival 11 by Partai Solidaritas Indonesia (PSI), that is exclusively based on the perspective of Teun Adrianus van Dijk. It reveals that we can learn how to deliver our ideology to public. Moreover, we can have a better understanding of the political purpose of these speeches.

Although there were many studies of Political Discourse had been done in CDA approach, but still few studies concern withrelation of ideology and language in the discourse. This study aims to, 1) find the ideological discourse structureswhich are used to enhance ideology in political speeches delivered by Donald Trump and 2) reveal the ideologies found in the speeches of Donald Trump about National Security. The analysis in this study is based on Fairclough’s(1992 )framework of Critical Discourse Analysis which consists of three levels of analysis; textual, discursive practice and socio-cultural practice. Then, for textual analysis, the writer used one analytical tool that is the theory of Ideological Discourse Structure of the discourse by Van Dijk (2000).
