This research is made to find out the ideology of the discourse and whether the phenomena occur. In this analysis, the researcher uses a critical discourse analysis approach to get the desired answer. Critical discourse analysis is the presence of the context that is associated with the linguistic factor was not quite satisfactory for the process of discourse analysis. The influence of the critical paradigm presents breakthrough called Critical Discourse Analysis. In the analysis technique in this discourse, the researcher conducts research using the approach of Theo Van Luwen's theory.

The article in hand studies word choices used in the headlines of news Top General Iranian. To spotlight what will US implied, the researcher has selected seven newspaper and all of news paper is based on US. The writer applies Halliday’s transitivity as research tool. The analysis focuses on investigating how US media mass bring opinion to make what US do is good thing, and represented in the headlines, It also highlights the message underpinned in the discursive lexical choices and rhetorical devices used in them. It shows how covertly the newspapers arouse the emotions of their readers to attract their attention and influence their opinion making process.

The Morphographemic Changes of Normal Students’ Sundanese-Language Handwritten Words in Pasirluhur Elementary School Bandung: Deletion, Metathesis, and Substitution

Sundanese language is one of Indonesian local languages that is usually used by Sundanese ethnic and/or by other ethnic speakers. Sundanese people acquire it as their first language. The research is about the morphographemic changes of normal students’ Sundanese-language handwritten words in Pasirluhur Elementary School Bandung: deletion, metathesis, and substitution. The research used descriptive-qualitative method. The aims of the research were to find the morphographemic change that was rarely found and the most frequently occurred. The result showed that metathesis is the one and only of morphographemic changes that was rarely found, while deletion and substitution were the most frequently occurred.

Semantic Extensions dalam Komentar Netizen pada Akun Instagram Artis Indonesia: Kajian Semantis

Pengguna media sosial di Indonesia terus berkembang dari tahun ke tahun. Artikel ini mencoba mengkaji penggunaan bahasa berkaitan dengan semantic extensions dalam komentar netizen pada akun instagram dua orang artis Indonesia yaitu, Anya Geraldine (@anyageraldine) and Nikita Mirzani (@nikitamirzanimawardi_172). Metode yang digunakan ialah deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semantic extensions (perluasan makna) terjadi dalam komentar netizen pada akun sosial media Instagram artis Indonesia. Perluasan makna ini kemungkinan besar terjadi sebagai akibat dari perkembangan teknologi dan jaman yang semakin pesat. Netizen sebagai pengguna bahasa juga ikut terpengaruh dengan keadaan yang terjadi di sekelilingnya. Selain itu, perluasan makna juga menunjukan bahwa bahasa memang bersifat statis dan tidak bersifat dinamis. Terdapat beberapa keistimewaan yang dimiliki oleh bahasa yakni, bahasa dapat hidup dan berkembang terus apabila bahasa tersebut terus digunakan oleh penggunanya dan bahasa dapat berubah maknanya seiring kehendak penggunanya. Dengan kata lain, tidak ada batasan dalam bahasa yang artinya bahasa mampu berkembang dan berubah sesuai dengan keperluan penggunannya. Fenomena perluasan makna ini juga merupakan salah satu contoh yang konkrit bahwa bahasa memang mengalami perkembangan dan bahasa bersifat arbiter.

The Meaning in English Japanese Car and Motorcycle Companies Slogan by Leech’s Theory

Based on that background, this study is aimed on how the types of meaning are appeared in the language of slogan-making of English Japanese car and motorcycle companies slogan which is specified to identify the types of associative meaning appeared and describe meaning that is emphasized. This study uses descriptive qualitative approach that emphasizes on describing in detail the types of meaning that appears in the language of slogan-making of English Japanese car and motorcycle companies slogan in which the data of this study are twelve slogans which taken from internet. The instrument of this study is the human instrument who is gathering and analyzing the data. The results of this study show that in the language of slogan-making of English Japanese car and motorcycle companies slogan there are several types of meaning appears based on Leech’s seven types of meaning theory, namely conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, and thematic meaning. Meanwhile two are three types of seven types of meaning that did not appear, namely social meaning and collocative meaning.

SLANG WORDS OF INDONESIAN ARTIST TEENAGERS ON INSTAGRAM

This research observes about the slang words used by teenage artist in Indonesian by using the Yule George theory to the type of word formation process, and Leech G on the meaning of slang words used by Indonesian teenage artist to analyze the slang words. This research examines the types and meaning of slang words that many Indonesian teenage artist use to find out how the types and meaning of slang words are used. This research implies the theory of Yule George’s slang type and the meaning of Leech G’s slang which has several theories, including for the types of word formation process there are acronym, blending, clipping and coinage, while for the meaning of slang words there are denotative and connotative meaning. The methodology used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. Researchers also applied Yule George and Leech G’s theory to this research to provide a better understanding of how the types and meanings of slang words that are widely used by Indonesian teenage artist. Researchers collected data from capturing slang words screens on the Instagram application. The result is that the acronym type of slang word formation process is more or often used by Indonesian teenage artist, while the meaning of slang words that appears and is used the most is the connotative meaning.Keywords: Slang Words, Indonesian Artist Teenagers, Instagram Application.

THE COMPARISON OF CHARACTERS, SETTING AND CHARACTERIZATION ANALYSIS BETWEEN NOVEL AND FILM OF PAPER TOWNS (A STUDY OF COMPARATIVE LITERATURE)

ABSTRACT This thesis examines the comparison between film and novel of Paper Towns by John Green. In both novels and films, has two elements, namely the intrinsic element and the extrinsic element. In this thesis, the researcher focuses on the intrinsic elements, there are in characters, characterization, and setting. The comparison between novel and the film version of Paper Towns. The method used by researchers is a qualitative method. Researchers used the original novel in English, as well as watched the film on Netflix. To include a table in the form of snippets of scenes from Paper Towns film. The theory used is the book Comparative Literature: A Critical Introduction by Susan Bassnett. The characters in the novel are diverse, when the novel become a film, many of these characters disappear. Usually the characters that are not used in the film are characters that do not have an impact on the threads of the story. The setting in the novel is presented in a more complex and detailed manner than in the film. The characterization in the novel is also complex, but it does not mean that after being a film the characterization that is already in the novel changes.Keywords: comparative literature, novel, film, Paper Towns

Penggunaan Aplikasi Quizizz dalam Mata kuliah Vocabulary Building: Masalah dan Solusi

Penulisan artikel ini berdasarkan pengalaman penulis sebagai dosen/peneliti dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui hasil penggunaan aplikasi Quizizz dalam mata kuliah Vocabulary Building bagi mahasiswa Sastra inggris universitas Al-Ghifari. Mahasiswa membuat kuis berdasarkan materi-materi perkuliahan mata kuliah Vocabulary Building. Kuis yang telah dibuat kemudian diunggah ke laman/aplikasi Quizizz. Kemudian, mahasiswa akan mendapatkan tautan untuk mengikuti kuis tersebut. Tautan kuis tersebut dibagikan ke semua mahasiswa di kelas daring Vocabulary Building. Mahasiswa yang hadir di kelas daring mata kuliah Vocabulary Building diwajibkan untuk berpartisipasi dalam kuis tersebut. Setelah mengikuti kuis, dilakukan analisis mengenai kegiatan yang telah dilakukan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Data yang diperoleh untuk penelitian ini adalah melalui observasi partisipan dan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil observasi dan wawancara, terungkap berbagai respon ketika menggunakan aplikasi Quizziz yang bisa menjadi kendala dan solusi. Cerita Berbingkai Dalam The Arabian Nights Entertainments dan Hikayat Bayan Budiman

Cerita berbingkai merupakan salah satu bentuk literary technique untuk menyampaikan cerita. Cerita berbingkai adalah cerita di dalam cerita, yang disampaikan oleh tokoh-tokoh yang ada di dalam cerita tersebut, cerita berbingkai dapat diceritakan oleh satu karakter atau beberapa karakter yang ada di dalam cerita. Objek penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah dua karya yang sama-sama termasuk kedalam cerita berbingkai, yaitu The Arabian Nights Entertainments dan Hikayat Bayan Budiman. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana perbedaan pola cerita berbingkai dalam The Arabian Nights Entertainments dan Hikayat Bayan Budiman. Metode yang digunakan adalah komparatif, dimana menyajikan dua objek penelitian yang memiliki relasi dalam penggunaan cerita berbingkai. Hasil yang ditemukan bahwa kedua objek penelitian menggunakan pola cerita berbingkai yang berbeda. Dalam The Arabian Nights Entertainments terdapat cerita utama dan cerita sisipan, dalam setiap cerita sisipan yang muncul dalam cerita utama diceritakan oleh karakter yang berbeda. Bisa dikatakan bahwa The Arabian Nights Entertainments menggunakan beberapa karakter untuk menyampaikan cerita. Sedangkan dalam Hikayat Bayan Budiman cerita sisipan diceritakan hanya oleh satu karakter. Cerita sisipan diceritakan oleh karakter utama yaitu Bayan Budiman. DEIXIS ANALYSIS IN THE SONG LYRICS OF TAYLOR SWIFT “22”

This research aims to analyze four types of deixis by using theory of Alan Cruse (2000), interpret the reference meaning of deixis and find out the most dominant type of deixis that found in the song lyrics of Taylor Swift “22”. it consists of such deictic words that has reference meanings. Therefore, the song lyrics can be analyzed using pragmatic approach,specifically about deixis. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data which is used is the song of Taylor Swift “22” and then it is classified into the types of deixis. The findings showed that the types of deixis like person deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, and discourse deixis are used in the song lyrics of Taylor Swift “22”. Based on discussion and finding can be concluded that all deixis are found in all songs, personal deixis is the most being found (15 Deictic words or 51,7%) the word “I, Me, You and We dominate all songs. in the second position Discourse Deixis is found (8 deictic words or 27,6%) and Spatial Deixis (5 deictic words or 17,2%), in the last position is Temporal Deixis (1 Deictic words or 3,4% )Keywords: pragmatics, deixis, song lyric
