Considering the current international context, where everybody is affected by the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic and its economic, social and psychological implications, communication has been subjected to complex changes at all levels, that go far beyond what we have managed to understand so far. Nowadays, in these troubled times, obstacles in communication are the norm rather than the exception, often resulting in alienation, anxiety, depression and a deep sense of loss. Loss of what our lives used to be… Loss of the self… This is why, once the impact of this new reality has more or less settled in, we need to work towards harmonizing communication in this new world we are living in. As linguists, we are witnessing an on-going shift in pragmatics and discourse analysis, as we should acknowledge the emergence of complex verbal and non-verbal dimensions to personal and professional communication, where fear of contagion is constantly lurking in the conscious or subconscious background. Special focus should be laid on schools and the entire educational process, with electronic platforms and online teaching/learning causing additional stress to all parties involved (teachers, students, and families of both categories). We have already discovered that the lack of proper human interaction, or the diminished state we are experiencing it in, is literally impossible to replace or fully make up for. Now, we must understand that harmonizing communication must be a top priority, particularly if we need people to stay fully-functional and keep education, society and economy running.

The lockdown situation has hampered the learning processes to a large extent across the globe. Many educational institutes promptly adapted to the situation and moved towards online learning, and many found constraints in this sudden migration. The purpose of the chapter is to identify the impact of a pandemic on the ongoing educational activities and how these activities were carried out with the help of technology-based solutions. A comparative analysis of the traditional and modern methods of teaching-learning has been carried out to check their suitability during the pandemic time. The significance of this chapter is to describe an integrative approach of continuing online teaching-learning activities throughout the lockdown time by establishing the connection between the online teaching-learning process and the traditional classroom-based methods. The challenges offered by the online environment have been outlined from the perspective of both the educational institutes and the learners.

The whole world, including Bangladesh is brought to a standstill by the pandemic of COVID-19.  All the hustling-bustling of a densely populated country has come to a quiescent halt; the only sound remaining is the whisper of anxiety. The HEIs in Bangladesh is also struggled to react to this sudden catastrophe; magnified by uncertainties.  Compared to public universities, the private universities of the country managed to react the fastest and are making sweeping changes in a very short period of time, shifting traditional face-to-face course content/teaching to online content/teaching. The shift to fully functional online teaching learning platform was sudden and with minimum preparation. To investigate the perception of the private universities community in Bangladesh with this new teaching learning method, this paper adopted the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, focuses on stakeholders’ behavioral intention, availability of the online platform, prior experience, attitude towards usage (ease of use and usefulness) and most importantly the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the paper also discusses the issues of social and cultural impact. It was found that all the UTAUT attributes are positively correlated with the Behavioral Intention and eventually to Use Behavior of students in adopting online education. Moreover, unexpected, and unprecedented impact of COVID-19 pandemic also effected their behavioral intention towards accepting online education.

The Covid-19 pandemic pushed the limits and limitations of all educational systems, teachers and students around the world. The solution adopted – distance, online teaching, learning and assessment – has proven to be of a longer duration than initially anticipated, to the frustration of students, parents, and teachers alike. Nonetheless, following a careful analysis of these processes over the last (two) semesters, surprising findings point out to the fact that the digital experience has brought forth, at least at the higher-education level, substantial positive outcomes that cannot be neglected. It has strengthened the digital skills that both students and teachers will need in a technology dominated future and has made the actors of the educational process aware of the constant need for an innovative look and creative approach toward sharing and assimilating the impressive amount of knowledge existent nowadays. The present article aims at discovering both the strengths and the weaknesses, the motivational factors and the technical difficulties that have characterized the recent online educational process; it also inquires to what extent this type of learning will be an integral part of our daily lives in the academia, once the on-site courses will be resumed.

En la actualidad, los docentes junto con las universidades enfrentan el reto de perfeccionar las condiciones educativas que prevalecen en el salón de clases. La tecnología de punta y el diseño instruccional permiten la creación de nuevos entornos virtuales que apoyan el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Uno de los desafíos que enfrentan los docentes en la actualidad es facilitar la asimilación y utilización del conocimiento en el contexto laboral. Por esta razón, esta investigación propone la construcción del Sistema Usable de Aprendizaje-Enseñanza sobre Bases de Datos (SUAEB) para mejorar el proceso educativo a través de la personalización de los contenidos audiovisuales. Este sistema web ofrece a los estudiantes 128 contenidos audiovisuales que se adaptan a las necesidades del usuario. Además esta investigación se apoya en el enfoque cuantitativo para analizar el comportamiento de 19 estudiantes que utilizan el SUAEB durante la impartición del curso presencial 2014-2  denominado Base de datos. Por medio del método ANOVA con los niveles de significancia de 0.05 y 0.01, este estudio analiza el impacto de utilizar el SUAEB como apoyo didáctico en una universidad ubicada en el Distrito Federal, México. Palabras clave: Tecnología; Educación; Usabilidad; Contenidos audiovisuales  Abstract Currently, teachers with universities face the challenge of improving educational conditions in the classroom. The technology and instructional design allow the creation of new virtual environments that support the teaching-learning process. One of the challenges facing teachers today is to facilitate the assimilation and use of knowledge in the employment context. For this reason, this research proposes the construction of  Usable Learning System Instruction on Databases (SUAEB) to enhance the educational process through customization of audiovisual content. This web system offers students 128 audiovisual content to fit user needs . Furthermore, this research is based on the quantitative approach to analyze the behavior of 19 students using the SUAEB for the delivery of classroom course called Database 2014-2. Due to the world pandemic, COVID-19, higher education institutions (HEIs) have found themselves in an unprecedented situation. Like no other time before, this pandemic has posed a serious test of resilience of HEIs – hence, the current study sets off to seize this opportunity to study the resilience of Omani HEIs. HEIs in Oman have devised contingency plans in light of the directives and declarations received from the government Supreme Committee responsible for handling the impact of COVID-19. The study aimed at examining the directives received by Omani HEIs against the framework of the securitization theory in order to identify the substances of the basis on which HEIs built their teaching and learning plans. The study was also planned to closely investigate the individual experiences of various stakeholders directly involved in the implementation of the contingency of the teaching and learning plans. Data were collected using document analysis and analysis of reflective texts. Discourse content analysis was applied in order to understand the lived experiences of stakeholders and to identify what shaped their experiences. The discourse of the collected data was analysed using the approach of thematic analysis which helped to identify recurrent patterns concerning the teaching and learning plans of some Omani HEIs during COVID-19. A number of challenges along with the challenges of other HEIs worldwide were identified, such as uncertainty and lack of resources and experience in online teaching and learning. The discussion of the findings in this study revealed dichotomies, as well as agreement, in the way stakeholders perceive aspects of the contingency plans of teaching, learning and assessment. On the basis of this finding, the study calls for a more nuanced approach to strengthen the resilience of higher education. Particularly, the study recommends incorporating processes of normalization of teaching and learning as well as of assessment in HEIs delivery modes as a way to consolidate HEIs’ resilience.

Owing to the spread of COVID-19, in order to maintain teaching learning during this disruption, the educational system is shifted to online teaching. This article is aimed to analyse the recent trends and the need for revision in the material. The impact of flipped teaching method on students and challenges were analysed in this research to investigate the pre-existing studies, technological tools and the online platform. The quasi-experimental method is used to analyse the implication of FL technique. The students of Engineering and Technology were selected as samples. On the whole 128 students from two sections have used the teaching of Flipped learning approach for the experimental group and 67 students from one section have been using traditional lectures for the control group. In the students’ perceptions, flipped learning is included with questionnaires of open-ended and close-ended. The results have shown flipped learning has better performance. They have become conscious of a unique set of affordances and restrictions; they have shown more attention to flipped learning. It is  found  that different departments were using the FL approach and online technological sources have been used for online practice. The flipped classroom has brought positive results on students’ learning activities like achievements, interactions, motivations, and so on. Poor quality of video and untrained lecturer has been addressed as a great challenge in inculcating the flipped classroom environment.

The global spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused one of the most extensive school closures worldwide, sending over one billion students home away from their schools, teachers, and classmates. Governments opted for online education to ensure the continuity of learning. Teachers in Morocco have opted for different tech tools and platforms to design and deliver online classes. This study aims to assess the impact and effectiveness of online teaching during the COVID 19 outbreak among teachers in Morocco. Based on the theoretical framework Online Collaborative Learning (OCL), an online survey questionnaire is employed as a data collection instrument. A total of 421 Moroccan teachers from different regions all over Morocco took part in the study. This paper used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software to analyze the collected data and determine the impact and quality of online teaching during the Covid-19 national school closure in Morocco. The results showed that most of the teachers faced numerous technology, training, and socio-economic challenges that acted as barriers to the processes of online education. The findings obtained can be of use in making future decisions concerning the implementation of teaching and learning online programs in Morocco considering the teachers’ perspective

Digital communication has become vital to all social and economic sectors. Today we are experiencing a transition from traditional learning to e-learning via digital means. Overnight, all of humanity is learning how to adapt to digital life and leaving traditional ways of doing things behind. Digitization has been around for several years, but has become a necessity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Lockdowns have forced us to work remotely and to use digital networks to communicate, make payments, and learn – all sectors have had to abruptly adapt to the digital age. This paper shows how teaching and learning approaches need to adapt to new communication requirements and students' needs to achieve learning outcomes in a virtual environment. This paper uses both quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze professors’ and students’ perspectives on the techniques of online teaching and learning, both during the isolation period and after, and what the best methods are for online learning, taking into consideration how to maintain students’ attention and how to get them actively involved in the learning process. The aim of this study is to develop a holistic image of online teaching-learning-assessment activities, to ensure the efficiency and quality of the educational process in the university environment.

This paper uses both a quantitative and qualitative method to analyze the professors and students’ perspectives on the techniques of online teaching-learning, during the isolation period and after, and what are the best methods recommended to be used for online learning taking into consideration how students can maintain their class’s attention and how can get actively involved in a learning process.
