The challenge of assessing student progress and using information gained through assessment to improve teaching and learning is formidable. It can be argued that in student-centered learning (SCL) environments that challenge is even greater than in traditional frontal instruction classrooms. To better understand the assessment and feedback-giving practices of teachers in SCL classrooms, we invited teachers from across the United States to share with us their classroom practices relating to assessment and feedback-giving, the types of feedback they give to students, and their beliefs about the benefits and costs associated with feedback-giving. The goal of this report is to share back our preliminary findings with the participating teachers.

The traditional approach to assessment is being reevaluated as a valid and effective language learning assessment tool because it often fails to account for the specific needs, contexts, and backgrounds of language learners. To make assessment processes more equitable, just, and inclusive, this chapter extends the traditional approach to assessment practice by introducing the equity-minded assessment model, which includes six principles for teachers to use as a framework for creating and evaluating assessments: validity, reliability, practicality, authenticity, washback and equity, and justice and inclusion. The author suggests that the model be used to design, administer, and reflect on the effectiveness of the assessment and as a critical reflective framework and not merely as a checklist of items. Thus, this model can serve to make assessments for learning and not just of learning, thereby making the assessment process equitable and inclusive.

Abstract The Force Concepts Inventory is a test to determine the level of conceptual knowledge of students about mechanical physics and to evaluate the effectiveness of different teaching strategies on the conceptual component of learning. The test is applied with the purpose of knowing the level of conceptualization of the students of a Physics subject course. The results of the pre-test made it possible to find out the level of conceptualization that the students possessed and provided information for the development of workshops based on real physical situations that required the elaboration of force diagrams. The results of the post-test allowed estimating Hake’s learning and showed evidence about the conceptual evolution of the students and information to develop future teaching activities on Newton’s laws.

SMAI Said Na'um is a senior secondary education institution in the Jakarta area. The system at this school has not used a computerized system optimally so it has several problems. The problems in Said Na'um SMAI include recording values using paper files which take a very long time. Lack of storage media, the data search process takes a little time. The information received is currently less fast and less accurate. Often there are data errors or inaccurate data in making reports. Data storage that is still in the form of physical files can cause damage to data. Based on this information, the research carried out aims to create an information system for learning assessment for students of Said Na'um Senior High School, Central Jakarta. This research was conducted by creating a data system on student learning outcomes at Said Na'um Islamic Senior High School using a Java-based programming language.

Anchored by the need for constructing an online assessment which is mediated by honesty as the character value for grammar mastery among undergraduate students during Covid-19 pandemic, in the present study we developed a test of English Sentence Structure (ESS) situated in an English department of a public university in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. To enact such a purpose, Design-based Research (DBR) was carried out in the study. Findings from the study showcase that the test was valid and reliable, giving it accessible portion for use in the English department. Aside from that, students also opined positively toward the use of the test in measuring their English grammar mastery. Despite these, we found that students’ score in the tryout phase is low affected by their lack of test preparation, inappropriate situated test time, and ineffective teaching and learning enactment. The paper ends with recommendation for future researchers.

In essence, every learning process will always be related to the emphasis on mastering certain competencies by students through learning experiences. This implies that in the learning process, learning experiences should be created that are activating students and innovative learning. On the one hand, learning outcomes as a component in learning assessment are not only seen from the number of numbers, but also related to the learning process. If the learning process can run well, the learning outcomes of students can also be better. The results of this Classroom Action Research with two cycles have shown that the application of Problem Based Learning is proven to be able to increase the activity of students which leads to an increase in learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education and Morals, especially in the Basic Competence of Understanding the Meaning of Manners, Courtesy and Shame in Students.
