The first short films from the Allegro Polish Legends series attracted great popularity. Further productions were created on the wave of this trend – short films, audiobooks and music videos. A feature film was also announced. The Legends are a unique narrative in Polish popular culture, not only because of the circumstances of its creation, but also the manner of its execution, distribution and the subject matter. In the article, I analyse this popular series, judging whether it can be considered a transmedia narrative. Firstly, I reflect on concepts such as an entertainment supersystem, a universe, a narrative and a transmedia story. Secondly, I relate these concepts to The Legends in an attempt to ascertain their applicability in an analysis of the series. I also reflect on the current situation of the franchise, as well as its potential and development prospects.

Since the Fall of the Berlin Wall, more than 8000 militaries installations worldwide have been made available for civilian use. To many, the idea of attempting to conserve military sites from the Cold War sounds discordant due to the awkward or “uncomfortable” nature of the subject matter and the generally unappealing aesthetics associated. Even if the Cold War influenced many aspects of the popular culture, science and technology, architecture, landscape and people’s perception of the world, the legacy of this war is less tangible than others, and for this reason it is important to make an attempt to preserve its relics. Military sites might be the only representative Cold War remains of a country and reflect issues beyond their military functions. The aim of this contribution is to present few cases of reuse of Cold War military structures in Italy and to introduce the lack of their identification and preservation.

This chapter follows the sounds of Dimapur through the lives of musicians and the nascent music industry. Dimapur has become a home for Naga musicians to establish music schools and recording studios and to hold events across many genres. Dimapur is also the subject of the city’s music. Musicians write and sing about the city, giving the urban landscape a presence in popular culture. The city also appears in music videos, circulated digitally through YouTube and other platforms, putting the city ‘on the map’ for the consumers of contemporary Naga music, whether in the frontier, in cities in other parts of India, or in diaspora. Through these networks, Dimapur is experienced as sound and image, some of which draw conspicuously on the past of militarism, though much eschews the past to project notions of a future, a capitalist future of wealth and conspicuous consumption played out in the urban landscape.

This chapter studies Libby Larsen’s work. It shows that her forthright, accessible style is flexible enough to allow for a sensitive response to words, and a close identification with the subject matter. Her wide musical tastes are reflected clearly here and she is notably responsive to the inherent rhythms of American pronunciation. Moreover, this chapter shows how ‘Jane’ in Larsen’s songs was caricatured and sentimentalized in popular culture, and how historical facts were distorted. The composer’s programme note informs us that ‘Martha Jane Canary Hickock’ (her real name) wrote these letters to her daughter Janey during the time when the child had been sent to live in a ‘normal’ environment. ‘Calamity’ raised the money to support her by taking on often humiliating and dangerous work in the brutal, uncompromising Wild West.

The article seeks to account for the communicative values of tense choice in the main clauses of the sentences occurring in a corpus of eighty-two Le Monde articles dealing with French national politics. There are 2,706 such tense choices. A set of three discourse topics, the current situation, its antecedents and its implications, is identified as constituting the subject matter of the articles. All the tense choices are correlated to the evocation of one or other of these discourse topics. The relative frequencies of the three discourse topics are correlated to the context of production and reception of the journalistic texts. An appendix tabulates tense choice in each of eighty-two articles of the corpus.

THE germ of that which follows came into being many years ago in the days of my youth as a university instructor and assistant professor. It was generated by the then quite outspoken attitude of colleagues in the “exact sciences”; the sciences of which the subject-matter can be exactly weighed and measured and the force of its movements mathematically demonstrated. They assured us that the study of languages and literature had little or nothing scientific about it because: “It had no domain of concrete fact in which to work.” Ergo, the scientific spirit was theirs by a stroke of “efficacious grace” as it were. Ours was at best only a kind of “sufficient grace,” pleasant and even necessary to have, but which could, by no means ensure a reception among the elected.

This article is aimed to examine the extent of the application of Islamic legal objectives by Sheikh Abdullah bn Fudi in his rejoinder against one of their contemporary scholars who accused them of being over-liberal about the religion. He claimed that there has been a careless intermingling of men and women in the preaching and counselling gathering they used to hold, under the leadership of Sheikh Uthman bn Fudi (the Islamic reformer of the nineteenth century in Nigeria and West Africa). Thus, in this study, the researchers seek to answer the following interrogations: who was Abdullah bn Fudi? who was their critic? what was the subject matter of the criticism? How did the rebutter get equipped with some guidelines of higher objectives of Sharĩʻah in his rejoinder to the critic? To this end, this study had tackled the questions afore-stated by using inductive, descriptive and analytical methods to identify the personalities involved, define and analyze some concepts and matters considered as the hub of the study.

Performance is the performance shown by educators, both in quality and quantity in carrying out their duties in accordance with the responsibilities given to them professionally. Educator performance development is a very decisive factor in the success of the education and learning process. In fact, in Kindergarten Rayon IV, Dumai City, there is still a low level of competency standards possessed by educators. The intended competency standard is from the standard academic qualifications and four competencies that must be possessed by a kindergarten educator, namely pedagogic, professional, social and personality competencies. This is evidenced by educators not yet mastering learning material with the maximum known when the learning process educators are not able to explain well the subject matter, and educators have not shown maximum performance in carrying out their duties and functions. The purpose of this study was to see whether there was an influence on teacher professionalism on teacher performance in Dumai IV Rayon Kindergarten. The results of the study prove that there is a significant relationship between the professionalism of Kindergarten educators and the performance of educators in Kindergarten Rayon IV, Dumai City. This is evidenced by the value of Sig (2-tailed) professionalism on educator's performance of 0,000, so the calculation shows 0,000 <0.05. This means that Ha is accepted, that is, there is a significant relationship between the professionalism of Kindergarten educators and the Performance of Educators in Kindergarten Rayon IV, Dumai City.
