Fertigation with drip irrigation is one of the technologies to solve fertilization and irrigation problems in chilli pepper production using polyethylene mulch. Potassium (K) is one of the important macro nutrients that affect plant growth and development due to its roles in the biochemical and the biophysical processes in plants. The objective of this study was to determine the best sources and the optimum rates of potassium for drip irrigated polyethylene mulched chilli pepper field production. The study was conducted in January until July 2018 at Tajur Experimental Farm, Center for Tropical Horticulture Study, Bogor Agricultural University. The experimental design was a split plot with the K sources (KCl, ZK, NPK) as main plots and K rates that consisted of five levels (0, 68, 136, 204, 272 kg K2O.  ha-1) as sub-plots. The results showed that the best optimum rate of K to produce fruit is 101.11 kg K2O.ha-1 with a maximum yield of 2.26 t.ha-1. Chilli crops fertilized with NPK and KCl had the greatest fruit weight per plant, fruit weight per plot, and fruit weight per hectare.

Purpose. To determine the level of productivity of sunflower hybrids, their stability and plasticity for cultivation in the Left Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine.Methods. The field experiment was performed in the conditions of the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine in 2016–2018. The peculiarities of plant growth and development, formation of yield of hybrids ‘Ukrainskyi F1’ (k), ‘P64LL125’, ‘P63LE10’, ‘P64F50’, ‘P64F66’, ‘P63LL06’, ‘NK Konti’ (k), ‘NK Brio’, ‘P64LE99’, ‘Laskala’, ‘Kupava’. Yield plasticity was calculated and analyzed by the Ebergard – Russell method.Results. Over the years of research, the average yield of sunflower hybrids in the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine varied from 2.71 to 4.04 t/ha. The lowest yield was shown by the ‘Ukrainskyi F1’ hybrid – 2.42–3.05 t/ha, the highest ‘Laskala’ – 3.79–4.26 t/ha. It was determined that in the conditions of the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe, there is no absolute predominance of medium-ripe hybrids in terms of yield.Conclusions. According to the results of the analysis of yield plasticity of sunflower hybrids, it was determined that the group of samples with high yield plasticity includes ‘Ukrainskyi F1’, ‘P64F50’, ‘P64F66’, ‘NK Konti’, ‘NK Brio’, ‘P64LE99’, ‘Lascala’ and ‘Kupava’. They respond to the improvement of the level of agricultural technology and provide the maximum yield only under the conditions of optimal factors. Hybrids ‘P64LL125’, ‘P63LE10’ and ‘P63LL06’ are more stable in response to changes in growing conditions without reductions in yield. As for the shares of the influence of the studied factors, the yield of the hybrid ‘Ukrainskyi F1’ was most influenced by the conditions of the year, ‘NK Brio’ – the sowing rate. For the ‘NK Ferti’ hybrid, the conditions of the year and the sowing rate are equally important.

Chilli pepper is the one of most important vegetable crops in Indonesia, and nitrogen is an essential macronutrient ‎to support plant growth. This study was conducted to determine the best source of nitrogen (N) and its optimum rate ‎for drip irrigated polyethylene mulched chilli pepper at. The study site is located at ‎‎ Tajur II ‎Experimental Field of Center for Tropical Horticulture Studies Bogor Agricultural University, West Java, Indonesia, 250 m above the sea level (-6.6364580S, 106.8231460E) from January to August 2018. The experiments were organized in a factorial split-plot with sources of‎ N fertilizer as the main plots (Urea, ‎NPK, and ZA) and rates of N as a sub-plots (0, 115, 230, 345, and 460 kg.ha-‎‎1). The ‎results showed that NPK fertilizer had the best source of N compared to ‎other sources. The maximum yield of 9.01 kg per plot, or equivalent to ‎10.46 t.ha-1, was obtained with N fertilization at 265 to 295 kg.ha-1.‎

The mineral fertilizers affect positively on plant growth and development. It was shown that the positive dependence between increased doses of mineral noutrition (in the gap from 0 to 120 kg. per hectare) and the growth of generative and vegetative plant organs. Application of NPK fertilize (120-120-120) was optimal to produce the maximum yield of marketable bulb onion 43.1 tons/hectare, with additional increase 22.8 tons /hectare as compared with standard. Seed plants also produced 1065 kg/hectare of seeds; that was more than 100 % compared with standard.

Grafting cucurbitaceous crops is an alternative for protection of plants in production systems with biotic or abiotic stress. The grafting cucumber improves the plant growth and development under adverse conditions, such as drought, high salt concentration and soil-borne pathogens. Lagenaria siceraria is a species with potential rootstocks in cucumber. Mexican L. siceraria accessions are less susceptible to damage caused by Meloidogyne incognita. The aim of this study was to evaluate two Mexican L. siceraria accessions (Lag 48 and Lag 53) and Forticuke F1(Numhems®) as rootstocks on plant growth and fruit quality of cucumber in soil infested with root-knot nematodes.Plant ungrafted was used as control. The results show that rootstocks increased plant height, leaves number and leaf area. Forticuke F1 and Lag 53 had a greater response than ungrafted plant. Thegrafting increased fruit weight in 25.3%, 15.2% and 14.6% with Forticuke F1, Lag 53 and Lag 48,respectively. Internal firmness of the fruits increased by 56.4% in Forticuke F1, 12.6% in Lag 53 and 2.2% in Lag 48 with respect to ungrafted plants. Length, diameter, external firmness and Brix degrees of fruit were not modified by rootstock effect. The use of L. siceraria as rootstock is an alternative to improvement plant growth and fruit quality of cucumber in soil infested with root-knot nematodes.

Studied in the experiment were the following components of cultivation technology for black currant: maintaining the soil between rows as black fallow or grassed; maintaining the rows as black fallow, mulched with straw or covered with polyethylene mulch film; foliar dressing in the budding stage with liquid suspended organic fertiliser Riverm at the concentrations of 1, 3 or 5% against the background of complete mineral fertiliser N60P90K90. According to the results of the research, it was found that the best growth and development of black currant plants was for maintaining the soil between rows as black fallow and maintaining the rows mulched with straw. Such practices activate the soil microbiota and facilitate the availability of nutrients to plants. Mulching with straw effectively protects against weeds, prevents damage to plants by tillage tools, and does not prevent rainfall from entering the soil. Accordingly, the best indicators of the maximum number of bunches of black currant (604) fruit number per bush (1315) were obtained in the treatment with maintaining the rows as black fallow and the use of fertiliser N 60P90 K90 (background) + Riverm 5 %. However, the highest fruit weight (1.66?1.74 g) was obtained in the treatment with maintaining the soil between rows as black fallow, the use of fertiliser background N60?90K90 + Riverm 3 % or Riverm 5 %. In general, the use of mineral fertilisers along with foliar dressing using Riverm increased the fruit yield in the treatment with N60P90K90 + Riverm 3 % under maintaining the rows as black fallow and mulching the rows using the straw up to 13.44 t/ ha; for the use of Riverm 5 %, the fruit yield was 13.28 t/ha.

Ethylene is the simplest unsaturated hydrocarbon, yet it has profound effects on plant growth and development, including many agriculturally important phenomena. Analysis of the mechanisms underlying ethylene biosynthesis and signalling have resulted in the elucidation of multistep mechanisms which at first glance appear simple, but in fact represent several levels of control to tightly regulate the level of production and response. Ethylene biosynthesis represents a two-step process that is regulated at both the transcriptional and post-translational levels, thus enabling plants to control the amount of ethylene produced with regard to promotion of responses such as climacteric flower senescence and fruit ripening. Ethylene production subsequently results in activation of the ethylene response, as ethylene accumulation will trigger the ethylene signalling pathway to activate ethylene-dependent transcription for promotion of the response and for resetting the pathway. A more detailed knowledge of the mechanisms underlying biosynthesis and the ethylene response will ultimately enable new approaches to be developed for control of the initiation and progression of ethylene-dependent developmental processes, many of which are of horticultural significance.

A concept of ratio of radiant to thermal energy (RRT) has been developed to deal with the interactive effect of light and temperature on plant growth and development. This study further confirms that RRT is a useful parameter for plant growth, development, and quality control. Based on greenhouse experiments conducted with 27 treatment combinations of temperature, light, and plant spacing, a model for poinsettia plant growth and development was constructed using the computer program STELLA II. Results from the model simulation with different levels of daily light integral, temperature, and plant spacing showed that the RRT significantly affects leaf unfolding rate when RRT is lower than 0.025 mol/degree-day per plant. Plant dry weight is highly correlated with RRT; it increases linearly as RRT increases.
