The article discusses the issues of territorial patterns in the implementation of precision farming technologies, which are insufficiently studied and constitute a significant scientific problem. The purpose of the study is to identify the territorial patterns of the introduction of precision farming technologies in conjunction with the indicators of agricultural development in the regions. The number of applied precision farming technologies was clarified, 37 regions took part in the study, 24 of them provided information on the application of these technologies. The results of correlation of regional development indicators (12 indicators in three blocks) and the amount of equipment with precision farming elements are presented. The greatest positive correlation is observed between the introduction of precision farming technologies and the agricultural production index at comparable prices (0.51) and the level of subsidies (0.37). The greatest negative correlation is observed between the introduction of these technologies and the change in the registered unemployment rate (-0.3). Based on the results obtained, it can be assumed that in regions with high values of agricultural production growth and subsidies, precision farming technologies will be most intensively introduced.

Subject. This article evaluates the quantitative relationships between agricultural development indicators based on identifiable econometric models. Objectives. The article aims to build identifiable structural econometric models of the relationships of key indicators of agricultural development in Russian regions in present-day conditions. Methods. For the study, I used econometric modeling and mathematical statistics techniques, and computer application programs. Results. The article substantiates the relevance of quantifying the relationship between key agricultural development indicators in Russian regions on the basis of identifiable econometric models, identifies major quantitative dependences, and presents statistically significant identifiable structural models of the relationship of agricultural development indicators. Conclusions. In today's environment, the possibilities for objective quantification of the relationship between agricultural development indicators are associated with the use of formalized quantitative methods. The statistical properties of identifiable structural models get improved as the number of observations increases. The best statistical properties are those obtained for the regions of the Southern Federal District.

This paper addresses the link between lack of rural development and migration flows and investigates whether weak agricultural development and poor governance indicators can be explaining factors for migration. The African continent offers a mixed picture with both positive developments and challenges ahead. With regards to its agricultural sector, Africa still has many challenges to face. Lack of quality infrastructures, widespread poverty, environmental degradation and human capital issues have to be addressed if the continent is to rise up from its current situation. As regards migration, the paper was unable to establish a clear correlation between weak development indicators and effective migration flows. Further data needs to be collected in order to establish a more comprehensive analysis. Nevertheless the paper recommends the creation of a comprehensive strategy strengthening the international governance of agricultural policies in Africa.

The growth of agriculture is prerequisite for overall development of Indian economy. It contributes significantly to the export earnings and affects the performance of other sectors of the economy through forward and backward linkages. The present paper analyses district and regional level disparity in agriculture development in Uttar Pradesh on a number of agricultural parameters. It uses UNDP methodology (subsequently used by a number of others) to standardize various indicators for agricultural attainment in the state of Uttar Pradesh using 13 agricultural development indicators. A composite index has been constructed at the district level and also regional level for two cross-section years 1990-91 and 2008-09. The relative variations and changes in ranks of different districts have been computed during the period under consideration. Evidence shows existence of high and persistent inter-state disparity in agriculture in the state over the years.  The transformation of some districts from the level of relatively underperformer to the rank of better performer and vice versa has been witnessed and explained. The findings encourage the authors to conclude that a more determined effort on the part of the policy makers is needed if the development policy has to be made truly inclusive.

The article emphasizes the fact that traditional socio-economic indicators do not reflect the challenges of sustainable development adequately, and this is particularly true for the widely-used GDP indicator. In this connection the elaboration of sustainable development indicators is needed, taking into account economic, social and environmental factors. For Russia, adaptation and use of concepts and basic principles of calculation methods for adjusted net savings index (World Bank) and human development index (UNDP) as integral indicators can be promising. The authors have developed the sustainable development index for Russia, which aggregates and allows taking into account balanced economic, social and environmental indicators.
