The application of innovative learning and lesson study (LS) have a potency to improve student thinking skills and activeness differently and mostly implemented separately. This study aimed to explore and compare the student critical and creative thinking skills as well as student activeness in the inquiry and cooperative models combined with lesson study-based learning practice. This was a descriptive quantitative study that was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 of Bengkulu.  The sample was two classes consisted of 33 and 32 students each that conducted LS-based inquiry and LS-based cooperative learnings. The essay test delivered to measure students' critical and creative thinking skills and an observation sheet to measure student activeness. The data were analyzed by t-test to compare the student critical and creative thinking skills as well as the student activeness between the LS-inquiry and LS-cooperative classes. The result showed that LS-based inquiry learning improved the student critical and creative thinking skills that significantly higher than LS-based cooperative learning. The student activeness improved gradually as LS cycles during learning processes in either inquiry or cooperative learning, but no significant difference between these two learning models. It showed that inquiry learning plays a dominant influence in critical and creative thinking skills improvement, whereas LS in student activeness improvement otherwise.

Abstract Critical and creative thinking skills are an essential attribute for success in the 21st century. This study aimed to determine the students’ critical and creative thinking skills in the Islamic senior high schools of Surakarta City so that teachers can pay attention to the strength and weakness of each student based on gender differences. This study used descriptive qualitative analysis. The subject of this study amounted to 180 students consisting of 80 male and 100 female students. The measurement of critical-thinking skills used a 6-essay-question instrument of the chemical material of electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions that measures the aspects based on Facione theory, namely: analysis, inference, explanation, interpretation, evaluation, and self-regulation. Then, to measure creative-thinking skills, a 4-essay-question test instrument of the chemical material that includes 4 aspects according to Torrance, fluency, flexibility, original and elaboration, was used. The results showed that the creative-thinking skills of male students are better than those of female students and the critical-thinking skills of female students are better than those of male students.

AbstractThe average result of student tests on the material for applying trigonometry is low, namely 52 and this does not reach the KKM at SMA Negeri 22 Palembang, which is 6. Therefore, an alternative learning model is needed. appropriate for increasing activity, critical and creative thinking patterns as well as student mathematics learning outcomes. One alternative is learning through cooperative learning type STAD . The purpose of this study is to describe the application of cooperative learning type STAD which can improve student learning outcomes.and describe student responses in the application of cooperative learning type STAD to improve learning outcomes. This study used a classroom action research design. Data collection techniques used were observation, questionnaires, and tests. After data analysis was carried out , it was concluded that: 1) The application of learning through cooperative learning type STAD ( Student Team Achievement Division ) which was carried out in this study was effective, because it can improve student learning outcomes in mathematics, the subject of the application of trigonometry in class X IPA6, amounting to 40 people. This can be seen in the percentage of student activity results in learning in action I reached 86.36% and in action II reached 89.09% with the predicate very good, and the average value of the final test results in action I reached 67.3% and at Action II reaches 72.25% with the percentage of the average value set is 65%, which means it has reached the success criteria. 2) Based on the results of the student response questionnaire, it was found that the student's response to learning the application of trigonometry through cooperative learning type STAD was very positive. Keywords: learning outcomes, application of trigonometry, cooperative, STAD.
