In this study, the wastewater of one of the cigarette factories in Izmir was characterized and treatability studies were done. The characterization studies of the wastewater showed that the COD, and the pH changes drastically. The chemical treatability studies of the influent wastewater were done by using Ca(OH)2, FeCl3 and Fenton Reagent. The optimum dose of FeCI3 was determined by jar tests. When using Ca(OH)2, the best flocculation, settling behaviour, and the highest COD removal occurred around pH 11. The optimum doses of Fenton Reagent (FeSO4 and H2O2) were determined. The supernatants of the previously chemically treated wastewaters were used for biological treatment. According to total COD removal efficiencies and the amount of sludge production during chemical treatment, FeCl3 was found to be the most economical and effective coagulant. Chemical treatment units were designed for a batch and a continuous system. The batch system has more advantages than a continuous system in this case.

PT NT is one of an International Tobacco Industries in Indonesia. The rapid development of the cigarette industry, as well as the increased demand, encourage many companies to evolve their production quality and capacity. One effort established by PT NT is controlling the effectiveness of production machines, including SD5 machine. In this study, an analysis of SD5 machine performance conducted using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness and Total Effective Equipment Performance. Based on the ten days of direct observation of machine performance, the study revealed that the OEE level was only a mere at 63.2%, under the world level, 85%. Further, the TEEP number was about 36.8%. Those low figures were mainly caused by the low level of machine utilization and availability. Thus, the fishbone diagram established to discover the main causal, reporting that four main aspects, human, methods, material and machine, played essential roles in the problem.

Cigarette industry in Indonesia had contributed around 8% to the state revenue in 2018, and this number are expected to increase in 2020 due to higher excise tax rate for cigarette industry which believed can boost the state revenue. However, the cigarette’s excise tax hike that will be effective in January 1st, 2020 will have significant impact to all of the cigarette companies in Indonesia. The biggest cost of goods sold component of cigarette companies were the excise tax expense, thus, a significant increase on excise tax will reduce the company’s profitability. The significant decrease in company’s profitability could affect the company’s stock performance. In order to help the investors how to react to this situation, the intrinsic valuation of the company is required. Evaluating the company’s financial performance in the past five years and conducting absolute or often called intrinsic valuation of HMSP are believed to be important in order to help the investors how to act while the cigarette companies’ stock was all tumbled since the beginning of the year. This study examined absolute valuation of HMSP using the FCFE model. Absolute valuation models were calculated and had suggested that the current stock price of IDR 1,900 of HMSP is undervalued. The intrinsic value calculated from absolute valuation models was IDR 2,242.71. FCFE models show significantly high intrinsic value for HMSP, with potential return above 15%, it should attract the prospective investors to buy the company’s stock.

AbstractUsing interviews with former militants and previously unpublished documents, this article traces the genesis and internal dynamics of the Ejército Revolucionario del Pueblo (People's Revolutionary Army, ERP) in El Salvador during the early years of its existence (1970–6). This period was marked by the inability of the ERP to maintain internal coherence or any consensus on revolutionary strategy, which led to a series of splits and internal fights over control of the organisation. The evidence marshalled in this case study sheds new light on the origins of the armed Salvadorean Left and thus contributes to a wider understanding of the processes of formation and internal dynamics of armed left-wing groups that emerged from the 1960s onwards in Latin America.

Abstract Culture shapes our basic sensory experience of the world. This is particularly striking in the study of religion and psychosis, where we and others have shown that cultural context determines both the structure and content of hallucination-like events. The cultural shaping of hallucinations may provide a rich case-study for linking cultural learning with emerging prediction-based models of perception.

Abstract Hoerl and McCormack demonstrate that although animals possess a sophisticated temporal updating system, there is no evidence that they also possess a temporal reasoning system. This important case study is directly related to the broader claim that although animals are manifestly capable of first-order (perceptually-based) relational reasoning, they lack the capacity for higher-order, role-based relational reasoning. We argue this distinction applies to all domains of cognition.

Abstract Sociocultural developmental psychology can drive new directions in gadgetry science. We use autobiographical memory, a compound capacity incorporating episodic memory, as a case study. Autobiographical memory emerges late in development, supported by interactions with parents. Intervention research highlights the causal influence of these interactions, whereas cross-cultural research demonstrates culturally determined diversity. Different patterns of inheritance are discussed.

Modern polishing, precision machining and microindentation techniques allow the processing and mechanical characterization of ceramics at nanometric scales and within entirely plastic deformation regimes. The mechanical response of most ceramics to such highly constrained contact is not predictable from macroscopic properties and the microstructural deformation patterns have proven difficult to characterize by the application of any individual technique. In this study, TEM techniques of contrast analysis and CBED are combined with stereographic analysis to construct a three-dimensional microstructure deformation map of the surface of a perfectly plastic microindentation on macroscopically brittle aluminum nitride. The bright field image in Figure 1 shows a lg Vickers microindentation contained within a single AlN grain far from any boundaries. High densities of dislocations are evident, particularly near facet edges but are not individually resolvable. The prominent bend contours also indicate the severity of plastic deformation. Figure 2 is a selected area diffraction pattern covering the entire indentation area.
