Purpose of this work was to establish relationship between corrosion damages depending on chemical composition, as well as external factors affecting copper and copper alloys in different operating conditions corrosion. Methodology. Object of analysis was actual normative and technical database on standard and prospective copper-based alloys compositions for operation in aggressive environments (atmosphere, gases, salts and alkalis solutions, aqueous mediums). Comparative analysis method in order to substantiate the prospects of special bronzes implementation for manufacture of machines and mechanisms corrosion-resistant parts has been used. Results and discussion. Copper alloys behavior in different operating conditions has been analyzed and factors causing their destruction have been considered. Corrosion damaging relationships with chemical composition, as well as external factors affecting corrosion have been demonstrated. Information on copper alloys corrosion rate in different environments has been given. Issues of copper alloys rational uses in relation to parts and constructions peculiar working conditions have been presented. Relevant information on copper alloys products problem of reliability and durability increasing, one of which solving methods is purposeful choice of material for their manufacturing depending on operating conditions, has been given. Practical value. According to research results, effective practical using of technical copper, brasses, tin, silicon, aluminum, nickel bronzes have been substantiated in terms of their resistance to corrosion damages features. Conclusions. It has been established that copper alloys are characterized by high corrosion resistance in different environments. In marine and ocean environments aluminum bronzes corrosion resistance exceeds in some cases all other copper alloys resistance. It has been concluded that aluminum bronzes and copper-nickel alloys have the highest corrosion resistance among copper alloys.

Abstract Remanit 4306 is a low-carbon chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel that is superior in corrosion resistance to type 302 (see Alloy Digest SS-99, revised September 1998). Due to its low carbon content, Remanit 4306 is intergranular corrosion resistant under continuous operating conditions up to 350 C (652 F). This grade is particular suitable for high degrees of cold working and for sequential drawing. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and joining. Filing Code: SS-679. Producer or source: Thyssen Stahl AG.

A previous paper presented at this Conference in 1955 was concerned principally with corrosion resistant materials for processing citrus products. Although this paper considered several different materials, each of which might prove satisfactory for certain operating conditions, the citrus processing industry has been able to satisfy most of its requirements with a relatively few alloys. These alloys are principally the chromium and the chromium-nickel alloys that are generally classified as stainless steels. This series of steels lends itself to certain basic treatments that have a very significant effect upon the mechanical, physical, and chemical properties. This paper will be concerned principally with these basic treatments and with certain specific treatments for special requirements. Paper published with permission.

Abstract This article presents the results of an examination of the properties of thermal flame sprayed coatings produced by material in the form of four powders (two polymers: PA11 and PA12 CastoPlast, and two high purity: tin and aluminum) on the substrate of the unalloyed structural steel of S235JR grade. Investigations of coating properties are based on metallography tests (SEM and CLSM), measurement of microhardness (acc. to PN-EN ISO 6507-1:2007), anticorrosive (acc. to PN-EN ISO 9227:2017-06) and bend testing. Results demonstrate properties of flame sprayed coatings that are especially promising in the industrial applications where corrosion-resistant coating properties are required. Consequently, performed experiments show that the highest corrosion resistance is demonstrated by steel samples with a polyamide anti-corrosion system. Accelerated corrosion tests showed the lowest corrosion resistance of the tin coating system, however, they do not fully correspond to the corrosion processes in operating conditions.

Abstract ASTM B 752 GRADE 702C is a zirconium casting alloy. Zirconium alloys are extremely corrosion resistant. They are expensive, but in some cases are superior in corrosion performance to stainless steels, nickel alloys, and titanium. The largest application for zirconium castings is handling hydrochloric acid. Grade 702C is one of the common casting grades. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: ZR-11. Producer or source: ATI Wah Chang, Allegheny Technologies.

As microturbine recuperators are needed to operate at higher temperatures in order to achieve higher engine operating efficiencies, a recurring problem encountered is a severe degradation in environmental resistance of type 347 stainless steel. Above 600°C, stainless steels can experience accelerated attack caused by water vapor, which is often present as a combustion product. Nickel-base alloys are less susceptible to this accelerated attack but their cost is prohibitive. In order to provide a clear, fundamental understanding of alloy composition effects on corrosion resistance of stainless steel components used in recuperators, the oxidation behavior of model alloys is being studied. A composition range of Cr and Ni contents has been identified with better corrosion resistance than type 347 stainless steel. Finer-grained alloys showed improved corrosion resistance compared to coarse-grained alloys with the same composition. It also has been demonstrated that minor alloy additions of Mn and Si are beneficial to corrosion resistance in these environments. This type of information will aid in the development of a corrosion-resistant and cost-effective recuperator material for operation at 650°–700°C.
