The present study seeks to provide an empirical elaboration on the effects of organizational culture and Islamic work ethic on permanent lecturers’ job satisfaction, organizational commitment and work performance (a survey at private Islamic Universities in the City of Medan). The population in the present study are all permanent lecturers at Private Universities under Yayasan Islam (an Islamic Organization) totalling 485 lecturers with respective functional titles of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor. Slovin’s formula was adopted in order to determine the number of samples and it generated a total of 219 people. The findings of the study indicated that organizational culture and Islamic work ethic directly impacts on permanent lecturers’ job satisfaction, organizational commitment among lecturers and their performance, job satisfaction has an effect on organizational commitment among lecturers , job satisfaction has an effect on lecturers’ performance, organizational commitment among lecturers has an effect on lecturers’ performance, organizational commitment among lecturers together with Islamic work ethic have effects on organizational commitment among lecturers through lecturers’ job satisfaction , organizational commitment among lecturers and Islamic work ethic have positive and significant effects on lecturers’ performance through lecturer’s job satisfaction, organizational culture and Islamic work ethic have positive and significant effects on lecturerss performance through organizational commitment among lecturers and job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on lecturers’ performance through organizational commitment among lecturers.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of Islamic work ethics on job satisfaction, turnover intentions and organizational commitment and its three dimensions: affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment. This method of analysis used a simple regression to determine the relationship of independent variables and dependent variables. The analysis used descriptive analysis to present the main characteristic of the samples. Islamic work ethic used instrument developed by Ali, job satisfaction was measured by Dubinsky and Harley’s instruments, organizational commitment used instrument by Bozeman, Perrine, Meyer and the turnover intentions adapted by previous research, Home and Griffith. The collected data was tabulated and analyzed using softwareStatistical Pakage for the Social Sciences (SPSS)16.0. This research selects 10 Islamic microfinances in Pekalongan city.  Results show that Islamic Work Ethic is positive significant related to job satisfaction, affective commitment, continuance commitment, normative commitment, and negative influence related to turnover intention variable. From this research, the application of Islamic Work Ethics was a solution to job satisfaction and organizational commitment and less contributes to turnover intention.

This study examines the effect of compensation, organizational culture and Islamic work ethic directly towards the job satisfaction and performance of the lecturers and the effect of compensation, organizational culture and Islamic work ethic towards the performance of lecturers through job satisfaction. This study was conducted at the Private Islamic University in Indonesia. The population of the study is 295 lecturers. The data were analyzed using The Structural Equation Modeling with LISREL 8.80 applications. The results showed that compensation, organizational culture and Islamic work ethic have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction. Job satisfaction has a positive effect on the performance. Compensation, organizational culture and Islamic work ethic have a positive effect on the performance of lecturers significantly. Compensation and organizational culture have a significant effect on the performance through job satisfaction while Islamic work ethic does not significantly influence the performance of lecturers through job satisfaction.

The culture of private university organizations which tend to be heterogeneous and vary according to the conditions and characteristics of each organization can encourage the growth of the organizational commitment of lecturers and the performance of private universities. However, on the other hand, this organizational culture difference can also hamper the performance of the organizations of each private university in Indonesia to develop the potential of the organization and employee personnel. This study analyzes the influence of organizational culture on the satisfaction and trust of lecturers at private universities in Indonesia. This is based on the consideration that a conducive university organizational culture can trigger the rise of organizational commitment of lecturers. By using analysis of variance to examine the significance and linearity of job satisfaction regression for organizational culture and trust regression for organizational culture, the results indicate a significant and linear relationship in regression testing between job satisfaction for organizational culture and lecturer trust in organizational culture. Practically, this finding indicates the importance of management of private universities to develop organizational culture to realize the vision of subordinates in private universities.

The influence of work ethics on employee performance is highly important.  Researches on work ethics have been widely dominated by protestant concept. There has been indeed contradictive sight on some researches related to religious alliances, but the work ethics of protestant is principally different from that of Islam. Islamic institution obviously applies Islamic work ethics. This research is aimed at analyzing the direct and indirect influence of Islamic work ethics on organizational commitment through job satisfaction. The present study adopted the quantitative approach and data collected by using questionnaires. Meanwhile, data analysis is used path anaysis.  The sample of the study consist of 70 respondents.  The result shows that Islamic work ethics has direct and indirect influence on organizational commitment. The indirect influence of Islamic work ethics on organizational commitment is lower than the direct one. Islamic work ethics can increase organizational commitment indirectly through job satisfaction. Meanwhile, the total indirect influence of Islamic work ethic on organizational commitment is smaller than the direct one. The managerial implication of the current research is that the principal should conduct an ongoing assessment on the work satisfaction of the teachers and employees in order to enhance their organizational commitment.

This study examines four factors that allegedly influence causality on the performance of lecturers in the State Islamic Religious College (PTKIN) in Aceh. So the purpose of this study is to find out whether or not there is a positive influence on organizational culture, job satisfaction, and organizational  ommitment to the performance of PTKIN lecturers in Aceh province. The population in this study were all PNS lecturers in the PTKIN Aceh environment totaling 727 people and the sample was determined by the Slovin formula to be 258 people. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire composed of 154 questions that were previously tested for the validity and reliability of the instrument. Data analysis techniques used part analysis (path analysis) which was previously required to test requirements for analysis, such as tests of normality, linearity, homogeneity and correlation tests between variables. The results found that organizational culture, leadership, job satisfaction and organizational commitment directly influence the work performance of PTKIN lecturers in Aceh province. This study investigates the role of Islamic work ethic as mediator between transformational leadership and work outcomes (organizational commitment, job satisfaction and turnover intention). This study used a sample of 370 employees from 60 Islamic microfinance institutions in Central Java, Indonesia. The results of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) indicate that transformational leadership has a positively significant impact on Islamic work ethic. The findings also noted that Islamic work ethic directly and positively affect both organizational commitment and job satisfaction on the one hand, and negatively influences turnover intention on the other. Overall the model supported that Islamic work ethic has a significant role to mediate the the relationship betweem transformational leadership and work outcomes. Implication, limitation and suggestion for future research are discussed.
