Using firm-level data from Germany, this study examines the link between foreign ownership and the coverage by centralized (multi-employer) bargaining agreements. Conforming to theoretical considerations, the empirical analysis shows that it is important to distinguish between a direct and an indirect influence of foreign ownership on centralized collective bargaining. The direct influence of foreign ownership lowers the probability that a firm is covered by a centralized agreement. The indirect influence works through the unionization of the workforce. If the size of the firm does not exceed a critical level, the indirect influence counteracts the direct influence. Foreign ownership leads to a higher share of union members which, in turn, has a positive influence on the coverage by a centralized agreement. However, in very large firms the indirect influence appears to be negative. Foreign ownership is associated with a lower share of union members.

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a social phenomenon that has plagued communities, including adolescents. Coping strategy and drug hazard knowledge are seen as important factors in curbing drug use amongst young people. This study aims to identify the indirect influence of coping strategy through drug hazard knowledge as a mediator in substance use disorders. The research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, with a sample of 381 adolescents, 313 males and 68 females, selected using a simple random sampling technique. The research instruments comprised the Drugs Abuse Screening Test-28, a coping scale, and drug hazard knowledge scale. AMOS 20.0 for Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used for the analysis. The results show no significant indirect influence of coping strategy through drug hazard knowledge as a mediator in substance use disorder among adolescents. This indicates that drug hazard knowledge has no significant influence on substance use disorders.

The New Zealand Government Railways Department undertook a wide range of reforms in the 1920s as a result of concerns about the threat of road competition and the longevity of New Zealand’s railway infrastructure. Some of these reforms were structural and financial, but many were motivated by desires to create a more efficient, modern and useful workforce. Unmarried men made up a third of the NZGRD’s workforce in 1927 and this thesis is an investigation of how the management of the NZGRD attempted to mould them. By investigating and analysing the ways in which the New Zealand Railways Department communicated with its workforce, this study will address how the New Zealand Government Railways Department used soft power to affect its worker’s lives. From the designs of railway houses through the range of publications given to employees the New Zealand Railway Department had indirect influence on almost every aspect of the lives of their employees, from their physical existence to what art and literature they were exposed to.

For this purpose, convenient sampling was conducted on beauty service industry workers, and 711 was chosen as the final sample. The sampled data were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs. As a result, psychological capital was confirmed to have influence over empowerment with no direct influence on shared leadership and creative behavior but indirect influence mediated by empowerment on them. It was further confirmed that psychological capital has indirect influence mediated by empowerment and shared leadership. The aim of this work is to point out the importance of the professionalization of the principal’s role in education institutions, with an accent on preschool institutions. The sample included principals (N=57) of preschool institutions in Central Croatia. The goal was to test the mediation relationship through SEM and examine the direct influence of interpersonal relationships within the preschool institution on the development of its work quality; furthermore, to test the indirect influence of these relationships by introducing the mediation variable of professional competence. The structured modelling in the AMOS was applied for testing the direct and indirect influence. The contribution of interpersonal relationships on the work quality is high and statistically significant (β=0,920), which confirms the direct influence. For testing the mediation effects, a bootstrapping method was designed that confirmed the indirect influence of interpersonal relationships on the work quality with the statistically significant serial mediator of professional competence (p= 0,016), thereby confirming partial mediation. This research determined that positive interpersonal relations, mediated by the principal’s professional competence, have a positive effect on the work quality of a preschool institution. In order for preschool institutions to reach the desired quality, it is necessary for them to be managed by professionally empowered and expert principals who promote prime cooperative relationships as the starting point in developing a high-quality institution. The results of this research contribute to a clearer perception and understanding of the professionalization of the principal’s role through key areas of his/her work and activity, and the possibility of their practical implementation into education institutions.
