We analysed the factors influencing the level of cross-border tourism from Brunei Darussalam to Eastern Malaysia based on a random survey of 675 Bruneian residents returning from land and sea trips to Eastern Malaysia and using simple statistical and multiple regression analysis. The results revealed that the age of the respondents, personal income, perceived quality of Eastern Malaysia as a better place to rest and relax, perceived quality of goods and services in Eastern Malaysia, use of alcohol by respondents and having family members and friends living in Eastern Malaysia were significant factors affecting the number of visits to Eastern Malaysia. This analysis was based on visits over the 12-month period prior to the survey, a period of relative price stability. Regression analysis of personal expenditures on goods and services of respondents during their most recently completed trip indicated that personal income, travelling with friends, number of days spent on the trip, perception of Eastern Malaysia as a better place to rest and relax and use of public transport were the significant factors affecting expenditures. We estimated that Bruneian residents spent about B$426 million a year on goods and services while visiting Eastern Malaysia, and this amount accounted for roughly 5.7% of Brunei's gross domestic product (GDP) in the year 2000.

Flacourtia jangomas, locally known as seriales, is one of the indigenous tree species in the island of Leyte, Philippines that is neglected and underutilized. To maximize its utilization, the potential of the commodity for wine-making was explored using the Placket-Burman (PB) experiment, which was carried out to identify the most significant factors affecting the quality of the wine. There were seven variables (n=7) identified, namely; fermentation temperature, contact time, sugar level, dilution, microbial strain and two dummy variables with a total of eight runs. Results show that fermentation temperature, contact time, sugar level and microbial culture significantly affected the sensory quality of seriales wine.

This study aims at investigating the factors that affect the research environment of business postgraduate students, particularly master students, from the perspective of these students. From the same perspective, it also aims at assessing these factors together with the quality of research environment. A questionnaire survey method was employed. The questionnaire was developed by academics from five business faculties based on relevant studies and was distributed to graduate students enrolled in all of the research business programs at the Faculty of Economics, Damascus University, ending up with 88 valid responses. To explore the factors that may affect research environment, exploratory factor analysis was employed. In addition, multiple regression analysis and t-test were applied to respond to the study purposes. Facilities and industry linkage come to be significant factors in the research environment. However, the results show insignificant impact for each of the research courses, networking, and research skills in the overall research environment. Variations in regard to the availability of these factors were identified with low level of availability for the facilities and industry linkage. The study is one of a kind that investigates factors affecting research environment of postgraduate students and particularly master students. Further and to the best of our knowledge, it is the first study that examines such factors in war conditions, which enables us to understand what students perceive as critical factors influencing their research performance in these conditions. Recommendations to policy makers are presented to develop strategies that respond to students’ concerns for a better research environment.

This paper investigates the determinants of perceived service quality among the customers of domestic and foreign banks in Dhaka, Bangladesh using a modified version of SERVQUAL model. It finds that in general the foreign banks provided marginally better measures in most of the dimensions than did the domestic banks. For domestic private banks reliability, communication, credibility, security, and tangibility are found to be significantly affecting the service quality. On the other hand, for foreign banks, reliability, credibility, and tangibility are the only significant factors affecting their service quality. Keywords: Determinants of Service quality; Banking industry; Bangladesh; SERVQUAL Model.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbt.v6i1.9991  Journal of Technology (Dhaka) Vol. 6(1), January-June, 2011 1-14

This study is intended to determine the factors affecting the consumer’s attitude and willingness to pay price premium for organic milk by analysing them using chi square test of independence and other simple descriptive method. The study reveals the result on the basis of both primary and secondary research. For this purpose, a survey of 155 respondents was conducted. SPSS software was used to get the results. According to the results, factors such as gender, annual income, prices offered, quality of organic milk and education had significant effects on consumers’ attitude. Overall, 58.1% of the respondents chose organic milk for their daily consumption. The average price willingness to pay was estimated to be 70-90 rupees per litre for organic milk.
