Background: PHC concept was incorporated in nursing curricula (1987) to equip nurses with necessary knowledge and skills to perform their PHC roles. The aim was to investigate the integration of knowledge and practice of nurses' PHC roles as perceived by the nurse and patient and the relationship with its influencing variables.Methods: A descriptive study involved nurses and patients from government and non-government hospitals using a structured questionnaire. Nonparametric statistics, known for their appropriateness for small samples, were used to examine the research questions.Results: Integration of knowledge and practice of nurses' PHC role was positively reflected in hospitals even though most roles practices were in moderate extent and the significant difference in nurses' role practices were experienced by the patients (P <0.001). The nurses' PHC role practice was influenced by supervision (P <0.001) of work and role of motivator, but were not influenced by other variables.Conclusion: Based on the study findings, an increased in knowledge resulted in an increased in PHC role practice. Therefore, good nursing education program is very important for the nurses to practice PHC roles efficiently and effectively in hospital. There is need for nurses to understand and deliver nursing care congruent with patient's perception of quality nursing care. Objective: Peripheral Intravenous catheterization is a common clinical procedure that demands a high level of nursing competency. This study intends to assess the effect of nursing care protocol for peripheral intravenous therapy on knowledge and practice of registered nurses and the association between pretest knowledge scores and selected socio-demographic variables using King’s conceptual framework and Goal Attainment Theory. Methodology: One group- pretest-posttest design, was used with self - reports and observation methods to collect knowledge and practice data from 30 registered nurses selected by simple random sampling (lottery method). Structured questionnaire and checklist based on personal, interpersonal, and social system of king’s conceptual system was used to assess the knowledge and practice of registered nurses, respectively. Results: Even though 30% of the nurses had attended previous continuing education on peripheral intravenous therapy, only 3.3% had very good knowledge. There was a significant difference in the knowledge and practice after implementation of the nursing care protocol. The pre-test knowledge scores have association with attendance in previous continuing nursing education. Conclusion: Study findings reveals the advantages of protocol development and improved knowledge and practice of nurses, which in turn obviously increase the health status of the patients and quality index of the hospital. Recommendation: The novice nurses can be educated on the protocol as a hospital policy enhancing the effectiveness of nursing care. Its implication can be evaluated using nursing audit at periodic intervals. Background and Purpose: Spirituality has been identified as the essence of being human and is recognized, by many health care professionals, as a central component in health and healing. Scholars have identified spiritual nursing care as essential to nursing practice and include caring for the human spirit through the development of relationships and interconnectedness between the nurse and the patient. However, despite the recognition of spiritual practices as important to health, little attention has been given to spirituality in nursing practice and education in the literature. The purpose of this article is to explore factors contributing to the invisibility of spiritual nursing care practices (SNCP), recognition and offer strategies to enhance the visibility of SNCP. Two major factors that reduce visibility of SNCP are conceptual confusion differentiating between spirituality and religion and limited education in the area of spirituality including nursing curricula and organizations. Strategies to enhance visibility of SNCP include educational approaches in nursing curricula and health care organizations. to influence nurses’ perceptions about spirituality and creation of a culture of spiritual care. Conclusion: Holistic nursing includes assessing and responding to the spiritual needs of patients. Changes in nursing education and health care systems are needed to increase the visibility of SNCP.

Context: Ectopic pregnancy is a condition presenting as a significant health problem for women of the childbearing period. Ectopic pregnancy remains one of the primary causes of maternal mortality. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of nursing guidelines for improving maternity nurses' performance regarding ectopic pregnancy. Methods: A quasi-experimental design used to achieve the aim of the study. The study conducted at Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Benha University Hospital. A convenient sample of all nurses (90 nurses) working in Obstetrics and Gynecology departments at Benha university hospital. Tools of data collection included a structured self-administrated questionnaire to assess nurses' knowledge regarding ectopic pregnancy, an observational checklist to evaluate nursing practice regarding ectopic pregnancy before and after the implementation of the nursing guidelines. Results: shows that 78.9% of the studied nurses had total incorrect knowledge pre-program, which improved to 88.9% of them, had correct knowledge post-program. The study also shows that 47.2% of the studied nurses had unsatisfactory total practice score pre-program, which improved to 54.4%  of the studied nurses had high satisfactory total practice post-program. There was a highly statistically significant difference before and after nursing guidelines of the studied nurses’ knowledge and practice regarding ectopic pregnancy (P ≤ 0.001). Conclusion: The study concluded that nursing guidelines have a positive effect on the nurses' performance in terms of their knowledge and practice regarding ectopic pregnancy. The study recommended that simple guidelines regarding ectopic pregnancy nursing care should be distributed to nurses in the emergency obstetrics department to standardized and optimized nursing care provided to women with ectopic pregnancy. Continuous refreshment courses and follows up programs for nurses regarding ectopic pregnancy.

Abstract:Traditionally quality of care has been measured against expectations of health professionals and standards rather than being grounded in the perspectives of patients. The most important aspect on which patients' perspective on quality of care depends is “nursing care” because nurses are involved in every aspect of patients' care in hospital. Thus, it is important to measure patients' perception of quality of nursing care in medical wards. A cross sectional descriptive study design was used and total of 50 patients recruited for the study by using purposive sampling technique. Patients' satisfaction with nursing care quality (PSNCQQ) questionnaire was used to measure the patients' perception of quality of nursing care after obtaining reliability. The results revealed that 34% of patients were between the age group of 21-40 years and half of them were males. The total mean score of patients' perception of quality of nursing care was 64.8 with standard deviation of (+) or (-) 13.2 and 40 patients' (80%) perceived overall aspect of quality of nursing care. There were 19 (38%) perceived low quality in the dimensions of providing information and skill and competency. This was supported by the results of the study revealed that almost 1/3 patients (31.6%) perceived that nurses did not offer adequate “explanation and information” about their treatment in hospital and home care and follow up advice. Thus, it was concluded that nurses need to improve their skill and competency and update their knowledge by attending continuing nursing education program and skill training workshops

                The evolution of information technology has exerted great influence on nursing education via new pedagogy of knowledge delivery without time and place restriction. Mobile technology revolutionises nursing education and clinical practice via empowering skills of critical thinking and clinical decision-making through learning. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using mobile messenger (Whatsapp) as an educational supporting tool among nursing students. The study design used is a Cluster Randomized Control Trail. Two nursing colleges were selected. Sample size was 93 participants, 48 from the Kuala Terengganu Nursing College Kuala Terengganu as the intervention group while the control group were recruited among 45 participants from UniSZA Nursing College. There is a significant difference in the level of knowledge between pre and posttest among intervention group (mean difference was -8.70 with a standard deviation 8.42, p-value< 0.001) and 93.8 percent of the respondents perceived the usefulness of using WhatsApp mobile messenger to enhance learning. This demonstrates that learning through mobile messenger (WhatsApp) enhances learning and is well received as a new method of learning by almost all students.   Keywords: Mobile learning, WhatsApp messenger, Social Interaction

Abstract Background Our transition to an “information society” means that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become integral to our lives. ICT has also become an essential aspect of medical institutions and healthcare settings. Healthcare professionals, especially nurses are required to use ICT in their daily work. In Lebanon, however, due to political factors, many universities have not introduced technology or any form of ICT in their curricula. Institutions of higher education do use technology in various ways, however, successful incorporation of ICT in education requires acceptance by instructors who are expected to use ICT in teaching practices. Although international findings reveal that ICT should be used in nursing education, some faculty members experience difficulty integrating it. Method A mixed methodological research approach was used to investigate the attitudes of nursing teaching staff toward the use of ICT in nursing education. Results Our findings revealed three categories of faculty with differing attitudes to the use of ICT in teaching and learning: pioneers, faculty members who have developed positive attitudes toward ICT usage; followers, faculty members with neutral attitudes; and resisters, faculty members with negative attitudes. Conclusions Identification of the nursing faculty members’ attitude toward ICT and the challenges faced by them contributes to the integration of ICT into nursing curricula and further development of educational practices.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the front of a package label and the nutritional claims linked to it over consumers’ expectations as to acceptance, purchase attitude and perception of quality characteristics of a new functional beverage made from cashew nut milk and added with mango juice and prebiotic substances. Design/methodology/approach Three versions of the front label were developed, which differed just by the type of nutritional claim presented (“0 per cent lactose and 0 per cent cholesterol; 0 per cent lactose, 0 per cent cholesterol and source of fibers, 0 per cent lactose, 0 per cent cholesterol and antioxidants”) and were evaluated in two phases, expectation and informed. For the evaluation, consumers used a multi-attribute scale, the nine-point hedonic scale and a nine-point semi-structured buying attitude scale. Findings The labels created a positive expectation on the consumers regarding the quality attributes, overall impression (mean = 6.0 “Like slightly”) and buying attitude (mean = 6.0 “Would probably buy”). After tasting the beverage associated with labels (informed phase), consumers kept a positive evaluation. The t-test performed between the pair of means of both phases showed that there has not been a significant difference regarding the quality attributes (p > 0.05), special, attractive, nutritive, healthy and buying attitude (Label 1, p = 0.26; Label 2, p = 0.18; Label 3, p = 0.26) in all labels. Originality/value The authors evaluated how the influence of label and nutritional claims in regards to a new product, a beverage made from cashew nut, affects its acceptance, buying attitude and characteristics of quality. Until this moment, there are no studies that evaluate how external attributes affect the acceptance of this beverage totally unique in the Brazilian market.
