On the basis of historical analysis, the author suggests that the current educational reform movement may be nearing a close. He cites numerous parallels between contemporary developments and various phases of the mid-nineteenth century and progressive educational reform movements. Underlying the demise of the current movement, the author suggests, has been its inability to face and resolve various unexamined conflicts among leading reform proposals, such as those for compensatory education, integration, decentralization, community control, radical pedagogical reform, and teacher professionalism. In conclusion, the author offers some proposals for the rehabilitation of the reform movement, including the "radical" notion that schools should concentrate on teaching skills and avoid teaching attitudes.

This journal discusses the implementation of clinical supervision in improving teacher professionalism. Clinical Supervision is a guidance process aimed at assisting professional development of teachers / prospective teachers, especially in teaching performance based on observation and analysis of data accurately and objectively as guidance for the change of teaching behavior. This supervision puts pressure on the process of "professional formation and development" with the intention of responding to the main understanding and needs of teachers related to their duties. The formation of professionalism of teachers who intend to support educational reform as well as to "combat" the deterioration of education must primarily begin by teaching teachers in the classroom. With improvements and improvements expected students can learn well so that the goals of education and teaching can be achieved optimally.

Neo-Existentialism as a Theory of Classroom Teaching? Reviewing Gert Biesta’s Re(dis) -covery of Teaching Gert Biesta is well known as a critic of a dominantly psychological interpretation of education and learning. He is also sceptic towards the evidence-based approach to educational reform and administration. Instead of this current dominating paradigm he defends and praises »the beautiful risk of education« based on a non-technological, dialogical interpretation of education. But what about teaching? In his new book Biesta rediscovers and recovers teaching and the teacher. His central idea is to disconnect teaching and learning, to free teaching from learning. Teaching cannot produce or cause learning; measured learning progress of students cannot be regarded as an indicator for successful teaching. This approach resembles former existentialist ideas on education and teaching. In this critical review central elements of Biesta’s approach to teaching and teachers are presented and discussed in the light of other theories of classroom teaching.
