Abstract REX M3S-2 is a sulfur-bearing high-speed tool steel offering very good abrasion resistance and resistance to softening at elevated temperatures. CPM REX M3S-2, produced by the Crucible Particle Metallurgy process, is an improved-quality product with finer grain size, better toughness and better grindability than the conventionally produced REX M3S-2. Abstract BLACK DIAMOND STANDARD is an electric-furnace-melted, water-hardening carbon tool steel with an excellent reputation for use as the standard in general shop tools requiring extreme toughness and resistance to shock and impact. In the lower carbon ranges (0.50-0.70% carbon), it is used primarily for tools such as pins, punches, hammers and sledges. Black Diamond may be expected to give uniform and consistent results, although no definite limits of case depth or grain size are regularly guaranteed. Abstract Crucible CPM Rex 54 HS is a cobalt-bearing high speed tool steel that is produced by the proprietary Crucible Particle Metallurgy (CPM) process. It combines the wear properties of the popular high vanadium M4 grade with the red hardness of the cobalt-bearing M35/Crucible CPM Rex 45 HS grades. Crucible CPM Rex 54 HS may be used as an upgrade for improved red hardness over M3 or M4 without giving up the abrasion resistance, or as an upgrade for improved wear resistance over M35 or Crucible CPM Rex 45 HS without giving up the red hardness.
