In this work basic properties of algebraic Atomic Basis Functions (ABF) are systematized and, using analogous approach, ABF of exponential type, so far known only at the basic level, are developed. For the first time the properties of exponential ABFs are thoroughly investigated and expressions for calculating the values and all the necessary derivatives of the functions in an arbitrary points of the domain are developed as well as some special features required for their practical application in a form suitable for numerical analysis. A software module for calculating all necessary values of the exponential ABFs, including its own graphics support, is created within this work. Thus, the exponential ABF is prepared to use as users or compiler function. The presented 1D verification examples of the function approximation and the examples of solving differential equations illustrate and confirm the practical advantage of the ABFs of the exponential type in relation to the, so far mostly used, algebraic functions, especially for describing expressed fronts and/or waves contained in the numerical solutions of various technical tasks.

This paper presents an approximate solution of 3D convection diffusion equation (CDE) using DQM based on modified cubic trigonometric B-spline (CTB) basis functions. The DQM based on CTB basis functions are used to integrate the derivatives of space variables which transformed the CDE into the system of first order ODEs. The resultant system of ODEs is solved using SSPRK (5,4) method. The solutions are approximated numerically and also presented graphically. The accuracy and efficiency of the method is validated by comparing the solutions with existing numerical solutions. The stability analysis of the method is also carried out.

The present paper deals with the approximation properties for exponential functions of general Durrmeyer type operators having the weights of Sz?sz basis functions. Here we give explicit expressions for exponential type moments by means of which we establish, for the derivatives of the operators, the Voronovskaja formulas for functions of exponential growth and the corresponding weighted quantitative estimates for the remainder in simultaneous approximation.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to show that the meshless method based on radial basis functions (RBFs) collocation method is powerful, suitable and simple for solving one and two dimensional time fractional telegraph equation. Design/methodology/approach – In this method the authors first approximate the time fractional derivatives of mentioned equation by two schemes of orders O(τ3−α) and O(τ2−α), 1/2<α<1, then the authors will use the Kansa approach to approximate the spatial derivatives. Findings – The results of numerical experiments are compared with analytical solution, revealing that the obtained numerical solutions have acceptance accuracy. Originality/value – The results show that the meshless method based on the RBFs and collocation approach is also suitable for the treatment of the time fractional telegraph equation.

AbstractFunctional elucidation of bovine Y-chromosome genes requires available genome editing technologies. Meanwhile, it has yet to be proven whether the bovine Sry gene is the main or single factor involved in the development of the male phenotype in bovine. Here, we efficiently knocked out four Y-linked genes (Sry, ZFY, DDX3Y, and EIF2S3Y) in bovine fetal fibroblasts (BFFs) with transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs) individually. Furthermore, we used TALEN-mediated gene knockin at the Sry gene and generated a sex-reversal bovine by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). The resulting bovine had only one ovary and was sterile. We demonstrate, for the first time, that the Sry gene is an important sex-determining gene in bovine. Our method lays a solid foundation for detecting the biology of the bovine Y chromosome, as it may provide an alternative biological model system for the study of mammalian sex determination, and new methods for the practical application in agricultural, especially for sex predetermination.

The present study aimed at the identification and quantitation of phenolic compounds, fatty acids, and further characteristic substances in the seeds of Geum urbanum L. and Geum rivale L. For this purpose, individual components of extracts recovered with MeOH, CH2Cl2, and by cold-pressing, respectively, were characterized by HPLC-DAD/ESI-MSn and GC/MS and compared with reference compounds. For both Geum species, phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids and gallic acid derivatives, and triterpenes, such as saponins and their aglycones, were detected. Surprisingly, both Geum species revealed the presence of derivatives of the triterpenoid aglycons asiatic acid and madecassic acid, which were characterized for the first time in the genus Geum. Furthermore, the fatty acids of both species were characterized by GC–MS after derivatization. Both species showed a promising fatty-acid profile in terms of nutritional properties because of high proportions of unsaturated fatty acids. Linoleic acid and linolenic acid were most abundant, among other compounds such as palmitic acid and stearic acid. In summary, the present study demonstrates the seeds of G. urbanum and G. rivale to be a valuable source of unsaturated fatty acids and bioactive phenolics, which might be exploited for nutritional and cosmetic products and for phytotherapeutic purposes.

Abstract Employing an economical and non-destructive method for identifying pigments utilized in artworks is a significant aspect for preserving their antiquity value. One of the non-destructive methods for this purpose is spectrophotometry, which is based on the selected absorption of light. Mathematical descriptive methods such as derivatives of the reflectance spectrum, the Kubelka–Munk function and logarithm have been employed for the characterization of the peak features corresponding to the spectrophotometric data. In the present study, the mentioned mathematical descriptive methods were investigated with the aim to characterize the constituents of an Iranian artwork but were not efficient for the samples. Therefore, inverse tangent derivative equation was developed on spectral data for the first time, providing considerable details in the profile of reflectance curves. In the next part, to have a simpler and more practical method it was suggested to use filters made up of pure pigments. By using these filters and placing them on the samples, imaging was done. Then, images of samples with and without filter were evaluated and pure pigments were distinguished. The mentioned methods were also used to identify pigments in a modern Iranian painting specimen. The results confirmed these methods with reliable answers indicating that physical methods (alongside chemical methods) can also be effective in determining the types of pigments.

In this paper, we propose a meshless method for solving the mathematical model concerning the leakage problem when the pressure is tested in the gas pipeline. The method of radial basis function (RBF) can be used for solving partial differential equation by writing the solution in the form of linear combination of radius basis functions, that is, when integrating the definite conditions, one can find the combination coefficients and then the numerical solution. The leak problem is a kind of inverse problem that is focused by many engineers or mathematical researchers. The strength of the leak can find easily by the additional conditions and the numerical solutions.

Sulfated derivatives of polysaccharides have anticoagulant, hypolipedimic and other biological activity. In this work, a complex mixed ester of galactomannan, its sulfate-citrate, was obtained for the first time. The introduction of citrate and sulfate groups was proved by FTIR spectroscopy by the appearance of corresponding absorption bands. It was shown by X-ray diffraction that the introduction of the citrate group leads to the amorphization of the galactomannan structure.
