This paper examines the contribution, the effectiveness, and the efficiency of value added tax (VAT) revenue.lt also investigates the variables affecting the value added tax revenue. Using the ratio of VAT revenue to total government expenditures as the measurement of the contribution shows that VAT revenue contribution is 33 percent in average lower than income tax revenue contribution. Meanwhile the effectiveness of VAT is around 3,5 percent, still below the income tax effectiveness. In addition, the c-efficiency ratio is 0.50 in average which means that every 1 point increase in VAT tax rate results in an increase in VAT revenue by 0,50 percent of GDP. Furthermore, using ordinary least square estimation, the VAT revenue is determined by tax base, regulations, and the exemption policy where household and government consumption as tax base have positive and significant effect on VAT whereas previous import has a negative effect on VAT revenue.

The paper analyzed the impact of taxation on economic development in Nigeria as it concerns value-added tax (VAT), Company Income Tax (CIT) and Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT). For the purpose of this study, the major source of data was a secondary source. Data were collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin and Federal Inland Revenue Services. The data collected were analyzed with Ordinary Least Square Multiple Linear Regressions since there were more than two variables. The analysis revealed that all the independent variables (VAT, CIT and PPT) used in this study have a significant positive relationship on the dependent variable (GDP), which is used to measure economic development while value-added tax, company income tax, and petroleum profit tax were used to measure taxation. It was therefore recommended that the government should extend its database to capture all tax revenue by employing practically and technically oriented professionals. Results also imply it is recommended for the government to foster a favorable environment for young entrepreneurs to initiate and grow businesses that will lead to an increase in tax revenue for the government. It was also recommended that social science, which is the umbrella that covers management sciences, should be employed to manage businesses so as to ensure the survival of businesses and boast the nation’s revenue through tax, as it concerns training having an impact on resources utilization and allocation, thus promoting profit maximization.

The objective of this study is to empirically investigate the effect of tax revenue and years tax reforms on government expenditure in Nigerian. Tax revenue were explained using custom and excise duties, company income tax, value-added tax and tax reforms explained by the years in which reforms took place measured by dummy variables as proxies. In conducting this research, an annual time series data from central bank statistical bulletins and Federal Inland revenue Service of Nigeria spanning from 1994-2017 were employed. The data were tested for stationarity using the Augmented Dicker-Fuller Unit Root Test and found stationary at first difference. The Johansen co-integration test was also conducted and showed that the variables are co-integrated at the 5% level, which implied that there is a long-run relationship between the variables in the model. The presence of co-integration spurred the use of vector error correction model and VEC granger causality to determine the effects and decision for the study objective. Findings revealed that Customs and Excise Duties has positive (3.96) and significant (-8.38) impact on government expenditure at 5% level of significance (t=8.38>1.96), Company Income Tax has negative (-1.25) and significant (2.98) impact on government expenditure at 5% level of significance (t=2.98>1.96), Value added tax has positive (8.54) and significant (3.90) impact on government expenditure at 5% level of significance (t=3.90>1.96) and Tax reforms periods has negative(-3.52E+12) and significant (8.39) impact on government expenditure at 5% level of significance (t=8.39>1.96). The study thus concluded that tax revenue and tax reforms significantly affect the Nigerian economy with the direction of causation running from government revenue to government expenditure, supporting the revenue-spend or tax-spend hypothesis.  It was recommended while seeking to increase its revenue base via tax should also increase their expenditure profile to create a balance with the tax revenue and every other tax reform should be geared towards this balance.

As per constitutional provisions of Indian federal finance, value added tax (VAT) (and sales tax) is the main source of revenue for the state government. Value added tax (including sales tax) collected by the Directorate of Commercial Taxes, West Bengal, accounts for approximately 62 per cent of state’s own tax revenue (SOTR). Studies on collection of taxes suggest that revenue from all taxes not only depends directly on the nature and growth of the tax base but depends also on other factors such as economic reforms, global and national economic condition and tax effort of the tax collecting department. The motivation of this article is to try to analyze the nature of the trends in collection of VAT in West Bengal during recent years and to find out the effect of different explanatory variables on collection of VAT. The search for optimization of taxation of commercial enterprises often leads to the choice of illegal schemes of evasion of value added tax and income tax. For example, the choice of the scheme of splitting business in order to understate income by distributing them to artificially created organizations, transferred to special tax regimes, which leads to the receipt of an unreasonable tax benefit by the enterprise in the form of a reduced tax rate and VAT exemption. This article formulates the main methods of proving the unjustified receipt of tax benefits by the regulatory authorities and the possible negative consequences of such tax optimization for the enterprise.

The tax reform to replace turnover tax with value-added tax (VAT) in Congolese tax legislation, in order to broaden the tax base, was justified by the government’s desire to increase levels of state revenue. This tax was introduced in 2010 and implemented in 2012. Although its contribution has improved the level of tax revenue, certain managerial aspects linked to it have not been exploited to significantly improve resource mobilisation objectives. In particular, the fixed threshold has excluded certain structures, the synthetic tax centres in particular, who are in direct contact with the vast majority of consumers, from the management of this tax.

This study aims to determine and analyze fluctuations in tax revenues, tax structure, and factors that determine tax revenues and ratios in Indonesia. The data used are data on the structure, revenue, and tax ratios from 2001 to 2017. The results show that the tax structure in Indonesia was dominated by direct taxes (income tax and personal tax) with contributions >50% and progressive, while indirect tax contributions (Value-Added Tax, Sales Tax on Luxury Goods, etc.) are around 30%. The tax ratio is still low at 14.58 percent. The results also show that GDP influences tax revenue, while the value of exports and the number of taxpayers have no effect. The tax ratio in Indonesia is influenced by GDP and the value of exports, while the mandatory amount has no effect. From a sample of 150 SMEs in Jambi, it is known that the level of compliance, obedience, assessment of tax servants is considered very good (average value> 80). Taxpayers' confidence in the use of tax funds for the benefit of the state is still low at 40.27, and sanctions for non-negotiable tax violations are also low at 48.53.

In the earliest period of islam, islam introduced jizya, kharaj, and 'ushr as taxes. In its development, taxes are expanded into more complex types such as: income tax, value added tax, land tax, and customs. This expansion of tax base requires justification of how extent islamic law covers scope for expansions of tax base. This paper uses a law and economics approach to examine the range of islamic law to conform scope for expansions of tax base. The paper scrutinises in advance a common dilemma between Islamic law and law and economics in dealing with taxes: budgetair and deadweight loss. To achieve welfare, good taxes concern several aspects, among other: a large number of tax object, cross demand elasticity, a impact of reducing the gap, and low cost administration.

This study examines the relationship between Tax Revenue and Nigeria Economic Growth. In order to achieve this objective, data was gathered through secondary means. Tax Revenue is proxy by Petroleum Profit Tax, Value Added Tax and Companies Income Tax, while Economic Growth is proxy by Gross Domestic Product. Data collected were analyzed with the aid of the Stata computer software. The study revealed that Petroleum Profit Tax (oil tax revenue) has a positive but no significant relationship with Nigeria Economic Growth, while Value Added Tax and Companies Income Tax (non-oil Tax Revenue) have significant relationship with Nigeria Economic Growth. The study recommends that government should minimize the wide spread corruption and leakages prevalent in tax administration in Nigeria, and transparently and judiciously account for tax revenue generated through the provision of more quality public goods and services, and need not to increase the rates of Value Added Tax and Companies Income Tax in the short run, but to closely monitor the operations of companies engaged in petroleum operations to minimize tax evasion, and as well as support the development of entrepreneurial activities in order to significantly increase Tax Revenue so as to sustain the significant relationship of VAT and CIT (non-oil tax) revenue with Nigeria Economic Growth.

Abstract The paper analyzes the relationship between value added tax revenue and intermediate consumption in the case of Romania in the period January 2007 – September 2018 (quarterly data), using an unrestricted Vector Autoregression Model based on the rate of dynamic taxation’s level (in terms of value added tax revenue) and the rate of dynamic intermediate consumption. In literature, is questioned only the relationship between tax revenue and gross domestic product. Our study emphasizes the link between tax revenue and parts of the own tax base. The relationship is questioned in both directions, namely with respect to the manner in which value added tax affect intermediate consumption and in terms of the influence of intermediate consumption on value added tax revenue in the case of Romania. Given that a significant part of the corporate taxpayers have left the value added tax regime, intermediate consumption is considered instead of final consumption. The analysis is focused on a specific relationship in order to assess the general impact of indirect taxation on production capacity of the undertakings. Our findings reveal that there is not a direct relationship between intermediate consumption and value added tax revenue at the level of Romania despite a such relationship at the EU-28 level. Moreover, in the case of Romania a high volatility of intermediate consumption was found. Both the breakage between tax revenue and his tax base, and volatility of the tax base suggest an influence of hidden economy. For future concerns about tax policy development, a specific model for estimating and forecasting value added tax revenue should be developed for Romania. On the other hand, based on the findings of this study, a model can be developed to assess the impact of the hidden economy on the value added tax revenue.

In the current era of the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 virus pandemic, the performance of tax revenues worldwide is declining. Indonesia's tax revenues in 2020 experienced a significant decline, including Value Added Tax receipts which decreased by 14.89% compared to 2019. This study shows that in the current situation there are factors that support and hinder the increase in Value Added Tax revenues. Factors that support the increase in Value Added Tax revenue include: an increase in the fiscal deficit, a decrease in imports, a longstanding Value Added Tax, and the efficiency of tax administration by the government. Meanwhile, the factors that hindered the increase in Value Added Tax revenue were: negative Gross Domestic Product growth, decreased service consumption, decreased C-Value Added Tax efficiency. To increase the value added tax revenue, it is better not to increase the Value Added Tax rate, because most countries in ASEAN use a tariff of 10% or less, except in the Philippines where the rate is 12%. If the rate of Value Added Tax is still increased, the maximum is not more than 12%, and it is temporary in nature for now and will be returned to the original rate or lower after the economic crisis era has passed. Expansion of the object of Value Added Tax can be done, among others, by reducing goods and services that are exempt from the imposition of Value Added Tax, which are facilities freed, are not collected, and are borne by the government. If there is an expansion of the object of the imposition of Value Added Tax, then it should be done very selectively and not to be counterproductive by still giving exceptions to basic necessities that are needed by the community and services that have social objectives or based on international rules are exempt from being imposed. It is also hoped that the reduction in the number of exempt goods and services will not interfere with the economic activities of the community, let alone cause unrest in the  community.
