This paper analyzes the impact of CRAMEL model on commercial banks financial performance working in Pakistan. Firm financial performance used as dependent variable e.g. ROA, ROE and TQ whereas Capital Adequacy, Resource Allocation, Asset Quality, Management Efficiency, Earning Profitability and Liquidity were used as independent variables. Panel data was analyzed through ordinary least square, fixed effect and random effect models. Secondary data of twenty listed commercial banks on Pakistan stock exchange are used from the period of 2008 to 2017. Result of fixed effect model provided significant positive relationship among CA, RA and ROA, ROE, whereas EP and LIQ have substantial negative association with ROA and ROE. There is insignificant relation of AQ and EP with ROA and ROE. Furthermore, EP has substantial positive association with Tobin's Q whereas RA, ME and LIQ has substantial negative relation with Tobin's Q. Lastly CA and AQ have insignificant impact on Tobin's Q.

The financial performance can be used as a benchmark of the ability of an organization or company in achieving its goals. Performance measurement is one of the most important factors for an organization or company, performance measurement is a process of measuring the extent to which a company does work to achieve its goals. The research investigated the impact of infrastructure, economic growth and inflation on financial performance of infrastructure support companies listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange Period 2014-2019 which is proxied by ROA (Return on Assets), Tobin’s Q and PBV (Price to Book Value). The population of this research was the infrastructure support companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange period 2014-2019. Research sampling was conducted using The Purposive Sampling Method. The data analysis was camed out using classical assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, t-test, F-test and determinan (R2) test with SPSS 21. The research finding showed that the model has an effect on the financial performance as proxied by ROA. So the results of the hypothesis test show that: (1) Infrastructure development has a negative and significant effect on ROA. (2) The inflation rate has a positive and significant effect on ROA. (3) Economic growth has no significant effect on ROA. Meanwhile, the model has no effect on financial performance which is proxied in Tobin's Q and PBV.

Since CEO pension is unsecured and unfunded liabilities of the firm, it induces CEOs to have long-term incentives towards minimizing their firms’ default risk. Motivated by the unique characteristics of CEO pension, this study investigates the impact of CEO pension on the value relevance of R&D expenditures. Using Tobin’s Q ratio to measure firm value, the empirical results show that CEO pension intensifies the relation between R&D expenditures and Tobin’s Q ratio. The results remain robust in two-stage least square and propensity score matching regression analysis to address the endogeneity issues in the relation between CEO pension and the value relevance of R&D expenditures. In addition, the regression results with ROA and F-score as the alternative dependent variables also confirm that CEO pension intensifies the relation between R&D expenditures and firm value.

This paper aims to examine whether diversity in gender, nationality, and age in the board of directors of banks in Indonesia could affect the financial performance of those banks. We used conventional banks’ data in Indonesia in the year of 2014 to 2018 as a sample of this research. Based on the empirical result using fixed effect approach and the Generalized Methods of Moment (GMM) analysis, we find that diversity in gender in the board of directors does not affect the performance of banks in Indonesia. This could be the result of the little amount of female representative in the board of directors. In contrast diversity in age and diversity in nationality in the board of directors has an effect to the financial performance of banks in Indonesia. We used two measurement to represent financial performance in this study, which are measured by Tobin’s Q that represent measurement based on market and Return on Asset (ROA) that represent measurement based on accounting.

The impact of bank specific factors on the financial performance of Nepalese commercial banks is analyzed in this paper. The financial performance is measured by using return on assets (ROA). Similarly, managerial efficiency (ME), liquidity (LIQ), credit risk (CR), assets quality (AQ) and operational efficiency (OE) is used as proxy of bank specific factors. This study used panel data of 17 commercial banks for the period of 2010/11 to 2017/18. Breusch and Pagan Lagrangian multiplier test showed that Pooled Regression model is not appropriate and Hausman test concluded that Fixed Effect model is appropriate rather than Random Effect model. Using the Fixed Effect model; this study concludes that bank specific factors have significant impact on financial performance of Nepalese commercial banks. Finally, this study reveals that ME, AQ and OE have significant positive impact, and CR has negative impact on the financial performance of Nepalese commercial banks.

A diagnostic review of the Spanish financial system during the 2008 financial crisis reveals the emergency need for banking reform in the sector. In an attempt to evaluate the impact of the Spanish reform, the present study examines the bank´s performance before/after the reform was adopted, using data of 19 Spanish commercial banks extracted from the Global Vantage research database (Standard and Poor’s) over the period 2006 to 2013. This study uses multivariable regression method to investigate the impact of the CAMELS rating system: capital adequacy, asset quality, management quality, liquidity and sensitivity to market risks on the bank´s performance such as earnings efficiency. The time-line of the study is essential because it helps us to determine the financial performance of Spanish commercial banks before the banking reforms during the financial crisis and an important set in terms of mergers and acquisition in the banking industry. The empirical results have found strong and positive evidence that Capital Adequacy, Management Capacity, Liquidity and Sensitivity to Market Risk are useful predictors of banks performance (earnings efficiency), thus, any reform pilot toward this banking indicators will eventually have a positive impact on banking performance. Base on the present study, the Spanish reform was so vital for better banking performance. Therefore, this study serves not only to academics but also to policy makers.

The main purpose of this study is to measure up to what extent the independent factors defined by capital adequacy ratio, non-performing loans ratio, cost-income ratio, liquidity ratio, and loans-to-deposits ratio impact the financial performance of sixteen commercial banks operating in the United Arab Emirates using panel data for the period of 2013-2019. The secondary data was collected from banks and examined by applying standard descriptive statistics and the random effect model for hypothesis testing. It is concluded from the regression outcomes that non-performing loans ratio and cost-income ratio have a significant negative impact on commercial banks profitability in the United Arab Emirates, while capital adequacy ratio, liquidity ratio, and loans -to-deposits ratio all have a very weak positive relationship on the return on assets but they are not determinants of bank’s profitability due to the insignificant statistical impact on it. It is therefore suggested that to enhance financial performance and minimize the risk of non-performing loans in the future, banks must watch very carefully the loans’ performance and analyze thoroughly the clients’ credit history and ability to pay back their debts prior to any approval of loan applications. Furthermore, banks should continuously improve their assets utilization, liquidity, and techniques of managing operating costs, improve the impact of capital adequacy, and the use of deposits for lending activities from a weak positive impact to a significant positive impact on their profitability. The researchers recommend that future studies on credit risk management influence on banks’ financial performance should consider more independent variables and longer periods of study such as twenty or thirty years to have more accuracy and generalized results.

This paper examines the impact of capital adequacy on corporate profitability of selected Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX Limited) from 2005 – 2014. The paper is carried out based on the historical panel data analysis. To achieve this objective; an ex-post factor research design was employed. Descriptive statistics as well as fixed-effect and random-effect Generalized Least Square (GLS) regression techniques were used as tools of data analysis. The paper made a modest contribution to the existing body of knowledge as most of the studies done in Nigeria and at international arena were not looking at the regulatory standards or benchmark to assess the capital adequacy and its impact on the profitability performance of banks. However, the bases used to evaluate the impact of capital adequacy on the profitability at times vary with the regulatory rating standards. The findings established that capital adequacy has insignificant positive effect on the DMBs’ profitability proxies represented by ROA and ROE. It was concluded that capital adequacy does not have significant impact on the profitability of the listed DMBs in Nigeria. The paper recommends that DMBs should ensure strict compliance with the benchmark for capital adequacy set by both the CBN and the Basel since they go a long way in improving their performance.

This study investigates the impact of firm characteristics on the financial performance of companies listed on the Egyptian stock market. Regression model was performed to regress six firm characteristics variables, namely firm size, foreign listing, age, leverage, liquidity, and assets tangibility. The study controlled for five more variables related to corporate governance including board size, board independence, CEO role duality, audit committee, and the quality of external auditor to avert their effect on financial performance. The study used both accounting measures such as return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) and market-based Tobin's Q Ratio for measuring financial performance. The findings generally indicate that firm characteristics have an impact on both accounting financial performance as measured by ROA or ROE and market-based financial performance as measured by Tobin's Q, with little difference in the level of such impact. These findings revealed that firm characteristics affect corporate financial performance as evaluated by the company or the market.

Corporate governance is a critical component relevant to firm performance. In the tourism sector, corporate governance is an underexamined issue. The purpose of the current study is to bridge this gap by examining the influence of foreign institutional investors, institutional directors, and shares pledged by directors on tourism firms’ financial performance. Data are derived from listed tourism firms in Taiwan. Ordinary least square regressions and two-stage least square regressions are used to examine the hypotheses. Results show that the presence of foreign institutional investors and a low share pledge ratio of directors have significant effects on return on assets and Tobin’s Q. The presence of institutional directors has a positive effect on Tobin’s Q. Implications for owners, policy makers, and investors are discussed.
