The main objective of this paper is to explore how capital structure and other financial characteristics of companies influence Croatian hotel industry performance. This study’s key goal is to analyze the debt-equity structure of hotel industry and to demonstrate its correlation with financial performance. The high significance and impact of hotel industry on the economy in Croatia was main reason why authors opted to investigate it. This study was carried out using panel data methodology on a sample of 19 Croatian hotel companies listed on the Zagreb Stock Exchange during the period of 2003-2017. Return on assets and return on equity were used as performance proxies and dependent variables. Twelve variables as capital structure measures and other company characteristics – cash ratio, current liquidity ratio, structure ratio, debt ratio, debt factor (in years), equity to non-current assets, total assets turnover, current assets turnover, accounts receivables, activity ratio, return on revenue and crises during the 2009-2015 period – were used as independent variables. The findings suggest that cash ratio, structure ratio, debt factor (in years), equity to non-current assets, total assets turnover, activity ratio, accounts receivables, return on revenue and crises in the 2009-2015 period are related to the financial performance of the Croatian hotel industry. Although profitability performance theory and influence of capital structure and other company characteristic on it is widely studied in financial literature, there are not many studies examining the hotel industry, especially in Croatia. Finally, this study should provide managers with additional insights in making optimal financial decisions.

Due to the great importance of the financing structure of banks, the impact of capital structure on the financial performance of banks listed on the Amman Stock Exchange has been examined. To achieve the objectives of this study, we have followed the experimental approach. The study relied on financial variables. The Capital Structure has been measured by the ratios of total debt to total assets and total debt to total equity. Both ratios are independent variables. The dependent variable in this study is the financial performance of banks represented by the ratio of return on assets, the ratio of return on equity, the ratio of return on investment, and the ratio of return on share. The study community and sample consisted of twelve commercial banks listed on Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) during the period (2007-2017). Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used in testing of research hypotheses. The most important results are that the capital structure has an impact on return on assets (ROA), while it has no impact on return on equity (ROE), return on investment (ROI) and earnings per share (EPS) in Jordanian commercial banks.

Corporate entities all over the world are faced with the problem of determining appropriate finance that will boost the value of the entity and maximize the wealth of shareholders. However, for overall wealth of shareholders to be met and consistent increase in value of Banks to be achievable, capital either debt in form of customers deposit or equity capital raised from investors is inevitable. This study therefore examined the effect of capital structure on the performance of some selected banks in Nigeria. The objectives were to examine the relationship that exists between capital structure and financial performance and to investigate the effect of capital structure on the financial performance of quoted deposit money banks in Nigeria. To achieve these, a cross sectional time series secondary data covering the period of seven years (2012-2018) was extracted from the audited financial statement of ten (10) banks listed on the floor of stock exchange. The descriptive statistics, Pearson moment correlation and multiple linear regressions were used. The correlation results showed that capital structure is negatively correlated with financial performance (ROA and ROE). Result from panel regression revealed that debt to equity though significant, impacted negatively on return on assets and return on equity , asset tangibility significantly impacted return on asset but insignificantly impacted return on shareholder’s equity  and also Age have a significant impact on return on asset and insignificant effect on return on equity . This study therefore concluded that capital structure have a negative effect on the financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria and recommended that appropriate proportion of capital should be tailored towards viable investment opportunities for maximum return of shareholders wealth and increase in value of the firm. More so, while finance manager is alert to the movement in the stock market, banks should take precautionary measures for mitigating credit risk associated with lending and borrowing.

The aim of this paper is not only to determine and compare the nature of capital structure but also its effect on company performance of engineering industry of USA and Bangladesh. We utilize a panel data methodology based on a sample of 34 listed engineering companies of Bangladesh on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and a mixture of 34 (small, medium and large) engineering companies listed in NASDAQ in USA during the period of study from 2012 to 2019. Our empirical results indicate that the capital structure of engineering industry of USA and that of Bangladesh is different. Also, we demonstrate that capital structure has negative effect on company profitability of engineering industry of USA. Capital structure presents a negative effect on Earning per Share and Return on Assets (ROA) and positive influence on Return on Equity (ROE) and Tobin’s Q of engineering industry of Bangladesh. We conclude that the impact of capital structure on company’s profitability by only one sector and then compare the findings to know the real picture of the link. Investors, auditors, analysts and practitioners should consider many factors to examine the banking performance. Our results from this study may relate to Asian countries with similarities in engineering industry to that in Bangladesh.

The banking sector plays an important role in the country's economic growth. International experience shows that a weak banking sector not only threatens the long-term stability of a country's economy. It can also cause a financial crisis which can lead to economic crisis. Therefore, it is important to identify and investigate the factors on which the financial performance of banks depends. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of risk management, third-party funds and capital structure on banking sector financial performance in Indonesia and Thailand with corporate governance as moderating variable. The authors use return on assets (ROA) as the key indicator of bank efficiency. The data used in this study are secondary data, including nonperforming loan (NPL), loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR), operating expenses to operating income (BOPO), net interest margin (NIM), third party funds (TPF), debt-to-equity ratio (DER), return on assets (ROA), corporate governance. The data was obtained from the official website of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (www.idx.co.id) and the Thai Stock Exchange (www.set.or.th). The sample used in this study is 20 conventional banks listed on the Indonesia and Thailand Stock Exchange from 2015-2019. The methodological basis of this study is the use of the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with Partial Least Square (PLS). Data processing was performed in the WarpPLS 7.0 software. The study results show that NPL and LDR have a negative and significant influence on the financial performance of banks. At the same time, the BOPO and DER do not affect the financial performance of banks. The NIM and TPF have a significant and positive influence on the bank's financial performance. In addition, corporate governance does not moderate risk management relationship to the bank's financial performance. The results of this study can benefit bank shareholders and customers, and bank management.

This paper aims to empirically investigate the impact of capital structure choice on the firm performance of the firms listed under the Dhaka Stock Exchange of Bangladesh. Multiple regression has been employed in this research to determine the relationship between the capital structure and the firm’s financial performance. Three ratios of financial performance, i.e., return on assets, return on equity, and gross margin, have been used as a sample of non-financial Bangladeshi companies, selected from 2010 to 2015. The study records numerous findings. First, the result shows a significant negative influence of long-term debt (LTD) and total debt (TTD) on firm financial performance measured by return on assets (ROA), but no significant relationship is found between short-term debt (STD) and this measure of firm’s financial performance. Moreover, the research found that there is no significant effect of short-term debt, long-term debt and total debt on the firm financial performance measured by return on equity (ROE). Finally, the result shows that a significant negative influence of short-term debt and total debt on firm performance measured by GM, but no significant relationship was found between long-term debt and financial performance. In general terms, the results of this study may suggest that capital structure has a negative influence on firms’ financial performance in Bangladesh.
